I don't know if to laugh or cry. I cried mostly yesterday :)
Last evening I finally decided to sell my maxed out carrier pilot. I've had my toon since the start of EvE 2003. So it was with a tear in my eye that I sold my toon Protectories to a polite guy who offered me 8.8 billion and a T2 fitted Raven.
I was very tired last night. The guy traded me the raven and gave me the money. I then transfered the T2 fitted raven to my main character. I confirmed the other guys account name, logged on to the EvE site, payed 20 euros and transfered the character to him.
End of story I thought. Just that I 10 minutes later realize that the money the guy paid me (8.8 billion) was sent to my charater that i sold . I totally forget to forward the money to my main character.
After I realized what I've done I tried to contact the new owner of my old character. But he blocked all my attempts. He didn't even say a word in local when I nicely tried to talk to him. Instead I found him outside a station in my old Thanatos playing with some fighters.
I've sent a petition to CCP, but I doubt they will do anything. If they do, It probably have gone 3-4 weeks and by that time I'm sure the new owner spent all the 8.8 billion on gear for his new toon
There for I announce myself as the "Biggest Idiot of Eve History" selling a 2003 maxed out carrier pilot including a carrier and fighters for 0 isk. I even paid 20 euros for the transfer

since it's technically an out of game arrangement, i suppose they might give your cash back.
i'd imagine whoever bought your character is desperately spending and transferring all the cash he can so they don't take it off him.

I hope that if ccp finds that as scam with real life currency involved the scammer gets banned from eve. Theres plenty of room in other games for people like that.

yer the buyer did nothing wrong. he sent you the agreed price and items, and you sent it back. if it was me i would of given the isk back but some people arent so nice. the guy got a free carrier pilot and ccp shouldnt refund the 8 bill due to the buyer doing nothing wrong.

CCP is good to sort out these issues when it involves a character or GTC, so theres a good chance you get it back if u explain it well to them. And mention that he is ignoreing you on purpose even tho he knows what is wrong.
And if he spend any of it, he's wallet will just go into a negative number, pretty much rendereing that character useless until he transfers isk to it from another. -- |

I hope you get the isk back :).
I try not to do much when I'm tired these days.
Once I sent out dividends for the corp and misplaced the decimal place :) (I was tired and forgot you can't do dividends in decimal places). Needless to say I have out about 100 times what I intended to do.
I was panicked bad. Now a lot of shares were in my wallet to help protect the corp so I gave that money back. It is fortunate that I have a list of everyone that has bought shares.
So I contacted each and hoped. To my surprise I got all the money back from all active players, and very few shares where owned by inactive players :).
I hope it works out for you. I learned though not to do important money stuff/trades while tired though :)

Tbh its a difficult case...
There was definetly no scam. The buyer bought a char, and he send you the 8.8bil for it. So the char transfer in itself was totally okay.
Now if I remember right CCP says in their rules that those char transfers do only account for the character itself, and if you are cheated there you can do something about it, and its assets are not guaranteed.
So basically, you two made a char transfer, it went down following all rules, but you "decided" to give him the 8.8bil as well. It's not his fault, nor is he required to give it back...
On the other hand, hope you get it back.

Man that really blows. I really hope the guy has a concious and gives back the isk. I know I would, I am a real man, I don't need to make someone else feel miserable to get my rocks off.
But tbh, I am not really sure that CCP could do anything about this sense it wasn't a scam. Although when you spend RL cash on the service then that might make a difference.
But onto the dude himself who has the character: I suggest anyone with any honor not let this guy in their corp/alliance unless this is settled. But sadly there are a few corps and alliances that wouldn't give a damn about this sense they have no honor nor care about having honor. We all know who they are

I fail to see how this would work. In case that CCP gives the money back, they just deduct it from other char (dropping his wallet most certainly to negative) and give that isk to the correct owner. In no point, do they add extra isk into the game.

Exactly. The events - as described - are not a "scam involving RL items". They arent even a scam at all. The buyer did everything he agreed to (pay you ISK and a Raven). The seller decided to throw in 8b ISK.
Its a good idea to petition no matter what is right and wrong, because authority isnt about justice but about connections, persuasiveness and luck. You might hit the GM jackpot, you might not.
The letter and the spirit of the rules says that its to the buyers discretion to return the ISK.
While its a pretty crippling loss, i have done a lot worse in the past.

Exactly. Except the part where negative ISK dont exist. Nor matter much on certain types of characters.
