Would u ever use 8 Pulse Lasers instead of 4 Tachyons? The Tachyon Laser is the number 1 choice of all Amarr BS users and many others...
No1 seems to use the other onces if they r not forced to do so (low Energy Grid)!! Why arent each of the weapons more uniqe? like u would never use a Tachyon against a Frigate 10km away from u couse the Tachyon is a long range weapon, but still, no1 seems to use anything else....

I tried megapulse. They're pretty cost effective, but with current pirate spawns you really need the range of mega beam and tachyon... :-(

Megabeams are ok, they are a good choice if you are going to try large lasers on minmatar, gal, or caldari bs.

shouldnt they be specialised so each one of them is uniqe and good in different situations?

question is why is it the most damaging weapons are also the ones with the best range? There's really no comprimise.. you'd think the short range guns would be more powerful, no? ------

Its not that the most damaging weapon is one with best range, because 1400mm archieves more damage over larger range.
Its not that the tachyon is overpowered, because thats the meaning of a battleship classed gun.
Its that the other guns are somewhat weak at what should be there specialty. __________________________

Edited by: Alynthir on 30/12/2003 13:11:53 I tend to like Dual Heavy Beam Lasers. They use 1/3 the cap, fire almost twice as fast and only do about 15-20% less damage over time. In a one-on-one fight, Tachyons eat up your cap too quick, but DHBLs can fire all day while running a couple hardeners and a shield booster so long as you have a few cap relays in your low slots.
I have run eight DHBLs on my Apoc a few times in PvP and the damage output is a constant 120-150 per beam per hit. That's an average of 1000 points every 4-5 seconds. I've vaporized cruisers in just a couple volleys before they could line up for warp. It's also a good setup for shield stripping enemy battleships at long range with radio crystals so you and your mates can then lob in the Kin/Thermal cruise missiles.
Sure you can do the same with Tachs, but...
There are arguments for both. In short hit and run engagements, Tachs are still the king. But if you plan to be fighting for longer than a minute or two, you might want to think about something that isn't going to drain your cap so fast and leave your shield booster with no juice! _____ CLS Civil Affairs Bureau
