I have a friend on a trial thats about to run out but he wont be able to come up with a credit card for a few days. I read somewhere that trialies get deleted if they dont subscribe before it runs out, is this the case? And if so is there any sort of workaround for this dude? _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

At the worst, the character will remain on the account until the account holder can activate it properly. Any skills running will continue running, but he won't be able to set a new skill away.
(Although someone feel free to correct me)

Was this recent? I mean I know they didnt get deleted a long time ago (I waited a month myself) Ive just heard auto-delete was part of the package of 'get tough on trial abusers' nerfs that came in January or whenever (the one that limited what they could train, disabled transactions, etc). _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

The limitations on trial accounts have been around for nearly a year and are not new since Revaltions. The only thing that has changed is further restrictions to Contracts and certain advanced skill such as Cynosural Field Generation, Anchoring, and the advanced Science skills.
I'm not sure where you heard of the 'auto-delete' procedure, but I can assure you it does not exist.

Characters are NOT automatically deleted.
It is standing CCP policy to guarantee all characters for a minimum of 6 months. However, informally a Dev has said they've never had to clear out any characters, simply because the amount of resources the data uses is infinitesimally small compared to the overall capacity of the EVE server cluster. Its like getting a haircut in order to help lose weight.

Edited by: Christina Vallentine on 22/04/2007 15:27:12 I started playing EVE probably 7 months or so after I did my test trial and my account and 2 characters were still there when I paid and activated.
Edit: Of course I transferd money and deleted those toons to play this one having done skill point allocation somewhat better, but still did it.

It's kinda funny looking at some of the skills that say "Cannot be trained on trial accounts" just because it seems next to impossible to have enough time on a trial account to even get to those skills.
That aside, as other people have mentioned, EVE hasn't had a character purge that we know of yet, your data is perfectly safe.

Considering I decided to upgrade my trial early so that I could actually use the Gallente Industrial book I'd bought...

I have a two and a half year old character that I never activated, but I can still find it in a character search.

My brother (accidentally) activated a 7-month-lapsed trial account last week (the login names are very similar apparently).
Your friend should be fine :) _____________________________________________

Edited by: ry ry on 24/04/2007 05:44:56 i accidentally reactivated a random trial account i had when trying to revive an old account. this account was created some time in 2005, so i'm guessing trial accounts stay alive forever.
if you do***** it up, CCP should be nice enough to move the sub over to the account you actually wanted, but they'll probably punch you in the balls in you want to keep on switching one sub between two accounts.
