For drone boats, the best frigate is the T2 Assault Ship, the Ishkur. Aside from that, the only T1 frigate that has any real drone space is the Imicus, and it isn't the best combat ship. My advice would be to go for the Assault hip, or start working on Cruisers asap. The Vexor is a mighty fine ship, and an excellent drone boat.

I heard you can passively shield tank Helios (Gallente covert op frigate) and use it's drone damage bonus effectively. I never tried this.
Drone frigates: Imicus (tech 1) and Ishkur (tech 2).

The Vexor is a mighty fine drone boat cruiser. I love mine. Much easier to get into skill-wise than the T2 Frigates. Note that ship bonuses (Vexor gets +10% to drone damage and hitpoints) are per primary skill level. So, train Gallente Cruiser to lvl 4 and it's a 40% bonus.
You'll want to train Drones all the way to 5 and then work on Drone Interfacing as well, plus other drone support skills.
Once I got to the point where I could fly Hobgoblin II drones, I virtual stopped using my railguns in missions. Now I use the guns just to get the rats to shoot at me instead of at the drones.

Pretty much the same thing, here. Once you get your main drone skills trained up (Cruiser skill for the Vexor, Drone Interfacing, <faction> Drone Specialization, Drone Sharpshooting, etc) the ship can be treated just as a platform for your drones, and the high slots can best be put to use handling matters other than damage. I haven't really seen this done effectively in a frigate. The Ishkur comes very close, but the best setups for it that I've tried have always included guns. If you're going for pure drone boat, the Vexor, Hyperion, and Dominix are the way you're going to want to take this, imo.

Edited by: DubanFP on 24/04/2007 00:13:18 The Imicus isn't half bad if you have T2 drones and Drone interfacing III or IV, very cheap but powerful for a frigate. Course ALL drone ships are only really good with Drone Interfacing III or IV "which requires Drones V skill". But by time you get that you'll probebly have cruiser anyways, so i wouldn't recommend it for anything but a cheap frig setup later in the game. ______________________

*points to 4xNos Ishkur....
Get it, Use it, fall in love with it. Best frig in the game!(when you have drained up most of your drone skills )

I like much my long range ishkur, 150mm railguns II, spike S ammunition, one drone link augmentor. It's a bit hard to fit everything you want in, but with the long range guns and high drone control range, you're safe far away. Works fine on shorter ranges too, orbiting at 10 km with antimatter rocks in most missions. The ishkur may not have a drone damage bonus, but using railguns or blasters on it gets it to the same mission efficiency than the vexor, with a bit less damage, but a bit more tanking (speed and real damage tanking.
If you're good at drones, you can do lvl 2 missions with an imicus just using 3 T2 drones. It's real cheap but brittle too! stay out of range (easy with the high CPU). -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! Flying Vexor and Ishkur, Myrmidon was too slow, got ganked by 3 BC and a Megathron... |

For a frigate, Imicus is the only real choice to start. I went Imicus > Vexor > Dominix, and then picked up the T2 frigate. The Domi is nice because you can stand off 60 - 70 km, and 375 M^3 drone bay is handy. There's something about 24 drones and 40,000 HP that I find comforting.
Drone V for sure, then interfacing V and then the T2 specialty. I learned the Gallente and Minmitar T2. Once you get involved in drones in a big way you'll want other skills for the other drones. Remote armor repping being one. There are also a few skills required to use the link modules for drones, but I doubt you can fit them all to an Imicus, although I admit I've never tried. You'll need a Vexor for that, I should think.
The Imicus will be rather fragile initially.
Good Luck
