As it is im in a system with many corpmates beltratting but hardly anyone looting and salvaging, so im looking for a ship specifically useful at looting and salvaging. As i see it the industrials are great at looting, if you need some speed or tank you can just take the transports and you still have a great ship for it.
But the industrials are not very good at salvaging at all, the best you can get are 2 highslots, so salvage + tractor. You also can only lock 2 targets so you need to keep locking and unlocking while pulling the cans to you. Sadly the transports dont improve on this at all, still only 2 targets and most blockade runners even only have 1 highslot.
I would use a destroyer for only salvaging or a indy for only looting, but what do you use if you want both?

Exequror is what I use for speedy mission looting/salvaging, but I am quite picky about what I loot.
3 x Salvager 1 x Tractor Beam
1 x 10mn Ab 1 x 10mn MWD 1 x Med Shield Booster 1 x Invuln Field
2 x CPR 1 x Nanofiber Internal
--- Indigo Fade is now selling jumpclones for superb prices, please see Marquis Dean's bio and/or evemail/convo him ingame.

I considered using a barge, im sure a hulk could do quite nicely at it. Ofc it might be just a little bit expensive ...

This is completely different, but for salvaging high-sec missions i use a coercer fitted thus:
High: 2x Tractor 6x Salvager
Mid: 1x Y-S8 Hydrocarbon Afterburner (cruiser AB, i know)
Low: 4x Cargo expander (for getting loot)
at least in high-sec this munches wrecks fast and can carry the loot, as well as moving quite quick, with all 4 expanders and the AB it's hitting about 700ms.

Errr, but you can't actually salvage like that because you'll get the annoying message about your not being able to salvage because your hold doesn't have the room to carry whatever it is you'll salvage.
I use a destroyer myself though for mission salvaging. 4 tractors, 4 salvagers, I drop all of the loot and salvaged stuff into a 27.5m3 can and drag it around. Once I have everything gathered up, I go grab an Iteron and haul it home.

Thats also a nice idea, would also work for beltratting in systems if there are not to many belts id guess.

I know what you referring to the generic wrecks that give lots of metal scraps. This is not a problem if you shift the resulting scraps into a can or simply jet them into space since they are nearly worthless.
I have yet to run into a single generic battleship wreck that gives more metal scraps than the remaining 200 m3 of space. I have though on occassion forgot to shift the scraps out to make room once i get the message i jet the scraps or move them into a large can

I use a similar setup, except I use a expanded cargo holds in the lows, and a micro cap battery in the mids. There are rare occasions where I run out of cap, but they're few and far between. Yesterday I added a salvage tackle to it (only cost me 14 mil) which seemed to lower cap use, since the salvagers don't have to run as often.

Exequerer, or a destroyer with cargo expanders. Exequerer has slightly more cargo capacity, but the destroyer with cargo expanders will have way more high slots.

Catalyst is the best for cap of destroyers and with Exp Cargo II, it carries 800m3+. Additionally Cap Recharger II have plumeted in price and are worth it. I never have cap issues with it.
One hting I dont get is the need to use nans/istabs on a salvaging destroyer. The already turn fast and move fast w/ a AB/MWD.

Cormorant for me; the emphasis is on not running out of cap:
5x Salvager 3x Tractor Beam
1mn Afterburner II 3x named cap recharger
1x CPR II
That way, it can run everything non-stop, going from one wreck to the next while towing two or three and salvaging them at the same time. I rarely find that cargo space is a problem, as I tend to gather in most of the bulkier loot while doing the missions in a battleship. ------ Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant tanking |

Wow, I don't understand the high ratio of salvagers to tractor beams. I tried a 50/50 ratio and I wasn't using all of my salvagers. I can't imagine what a 75/25 ratio would be doing. I personally run 4 tractors to my 2 salvagers and it works great. I just need a faster ship now to keep myself to get in range of those far flung wrecks.

That's what I run except I put cargo in the lows. The problem is that it can't run all eight highs without running out of cap eventually. Also, for some L4 missions, it runs out of space and I have to drag a can around, which isn't bad except that you have to fly back with a hauler and/or when you have multiple rooms. For those occassions, I have an Armageddon fitted out similarly except with 6x cargo and two cap recharges. Can run on AB and all 8 highs forever with about 3x the cargo hold as this. Plus, the 'geddon can carry a wing of heavy drones to pop structures and rats if needed.

I do my looting before I report mission complete. That way I can use the original mission bookmark, and not worry about cluttering up space with ones I'd have to delete when I'm done.
My salvage ship is a humble Probe, fitted with:
2 x Salvager
1 x Afterburner 1 x Capacitor Battery (mainly for long-distance warping)
1 x Salvage Tackle.
2 x Light Drone for defense, in case a hostile turns up while I'm working. (Although if and when Salvage Drones make an appearance, they'll probably be replaced.)
Yes, I have to fly to each individual wreck to loot and salvage them, but that's what the AB is for. (Plus I can't actually use a Tractor Beam yet....)
With this setup, using both Salvagers on the same wreck, I usually get the salvage before I have time to loot the cargo. When I get the components to build another Salvage Tackle or two, I can use one Salvager per wreck, and really start to race through them....

Well, I got myself a Probe yesterday for salvaging L3s, the whole setup and frig costing less then 400K ISK (and I had most of it in hangar already). Highs: 2x salvager Meds: 1x Cold-gas AB , 1x whatever - have a ship scanner mounted atm, to check other people's setups Lows: 1x named overdrive, 1xnanofiber
Top speed is about 860-870 - it's going to push 900m/s with nav 5. Acceleration from 0 to top speed is insane as well, so it's great for travelling around from wreck to wreck fast, esp. after those drawn-out fights. Cargo space isn't that hot, about 360m2, but I menage with that for both looting and salvage. Have to warp back to deliver a part of the junk first before looting/salvaging the rest for those long missions with tons of wrecks. Immensely fun to fly. I also have a med drone in my bay for self-defence. It would really rock with a named MWD and a cap recharger in mids, if you're interested in salvaging belts, though.
