so last night while out in our little gang we killed a guy and he called us space gangsters. it really made my night, and leads me to wonder if any of you older pirates out there have funny stories of role players staying in character throughout the whole victim/pirate experience.
for instance, i have a guy who buys corpses from me because he pretends hes a cannibal in game. he says he makes meat-pies for the orphans out in 0.0. he must have bought at least 300 corpses since we started doing business, and i know im not his only supplier.
although role players can be very creepy, i think they definitely make the game more entertaining. as long as i dont have to hang out with them in real life.

Well it wasn't a piracy thing, but we had a role player in system a few nights ago and he was hilarious...he was seeking "Electus Matari" as he was trying to restore Molden Heath to Ammatar control...he was offering women as rewards for pointing him to any of these targets of his. The chat was amazing, I even saved it in a note to laugh at later.

I gather my own stock of corpses. I often find them floating near gates, especially when you ebil pirates have done your stuff.
I would like to assure all of my past customers that these corpses and my product range have nothing in common.
Out of interest, what is the going rate for a corpse nowadays?

Everyone in Eve is a roleplayer wether they like it or not. Levels of immersion varies, but we are all roleplayers.

I RP in EVE 100% of the time while in-game and I would certainly continue to do so when someone ransoms my hauler, but no-one has ever bothered. Everyone wants to shoot, no-one wants to talk.

I can only hazard a guess that "hating your guts" means that they do not want to turn your frozen corpse into baked goods. "If you had a gang of 81127 kestrals you could alpha strike Tranquility Server into a smoking hole in the ground" |

EVE is sorta RP deprived, imo, mainly due to lackluster storyline updates and KillMails/KB's. Particularly KBoards with no in-game mechanic to disprove liars. (Give us in-game tallied KB's please.)
The dude that "makes meat pies for 0.0 orphans out of dead capsuliers", however is just creepy. Hannibal Freekin Lector with a Crow. But, I guess, at least he's thinking of the orphans.

EVE is a diverse enough, post-modern scifi culture where you dont need to talk like a snooty renfaire reject to be "in character." Even leetspeak, conceivably, could be a way Sansha and other crazy people communicate through text.
About the only people who are really out of character are the metagaming "EVE is serious business" super alliance types.

You know I gave RPing a shot - I really did. VOIP kills it though. I made it a point to avoid VOIP for a long time in Eve because I wanted to try to RP. Forums mess me up that way too - I don't find it is as easy to talk in forums in-character than it is to talk in local in-character. I suppose I could try. --

I religiously avoid all VOIP because of this reason.
I can RP on forums, and sometimes do, but I never RP on THIS forum.

Ran into a RP alliance some time ago. They were werry dedicatet i have to say. I bought all freed slaves etc in the near 3 systems headed out to there boarder jetisoned these "inocents" and demanded ransom for not blowing them up. After 2 cans whent puff, they bought the rest from me so they could live.....

But that's exactly how RP alliances SHOULD be played, and almost never are. Good on them for having the courage of their RP convictions and not abandoning them for the sake of financial gain, like so many others do (for example, 'anarchist' collectives running missions for Caldari Navy always make me laugh). Your story is also very imaginative example of how a pirate should react to an RP situation, so good work. If I was playing an Amarrian slaver or Matar freedom fighter you would have been a joy to meet in game, ransom or otherwise.
Because I RP in game 100%, the only chance anyone really has of pirating me for profit is to engage with me on some sort of RP level in the game. Guns and ganks just don't work, the best anyone has ever managed in that respect is to blow up a hauler of mine with nothing in it. But I might be convinced to reward pirates who dare to think outside the square, as long as they can RP properly while they're at it. I think that the better RPers will also think like I do regarding this, and this is why the RP alliance coughed up the ransom.

Being "In Character" while playing can add a lot to the game, there's nothing scary or strange about roleplaying or roleplayers. And as the minmattar above me said, in a game like Eve with all it's consequences, everyone is some sort of roleplayer. Next to that, I'm pretty sure most people roleplay without really knowing it sometimes, in singleplayer games aswell.
And being a RP victim? Guess most of my deaths so far were caused by others for RP reasons.
