Hey guys I was curious what a good fit would be for low sec mining in a Venture? Right now I am running into the issues trying to find a balance between protecting myself and mining yield. Any advice. Also I am solo mining figured you might need that piece of info. |

Would you be mining gas or ore?

My advice is to avoid mining in any systems active with Faction Warfare.
I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

FW is so dead and any Venture on dscan I would think is probably in FW lol

Lulu's fits seem like a good starting point to me. I've spent a great deal of time solo pve in low and one thing I've learned is that defenses are almost useless if you get caught by an experienced pvper or small group. All those shields do is increase suffering time. But that's me. I'd fit cloaky and agility. Aside from human pirates, low sec belt rats can be... a problem. You'll likely spend a lot of time finding an empty belt or running away from what was an empty belt. Agility will be your best friend there as well as zipping past the occasional gate camp. Fast to warp is happy to warp.
My #1 solo low sec rule: Cloak first, ask questions later. If you get caught you're 99% certain to lose your ship. (99% statistic is completely made up but feels very very real).

if you are in lowsec and anyone enters the system warp to a safe spot straight away.
Only have your drones out when they are killing rats as you may have to enter warp at any time.

I killed hundreds of ventures last year, all in lowsec, allowing me to watch an evolution of sorts. By the end of the year i started seeing ancillary shield boosters and warp core stabs as the ones that got away. One cheeky blighter even had an ECM in the mids that let him moonwalk out. Empty system best system. Opportunistic attackers will fail due to warp core strength of the hull, determined attackers will have double scram. Graduate to Prospect, so you can warp to an intercelestial and cloak. One jump into lowsec is best, because every gate back to market is another dice-roll unscouted. Learn the area, if you're deadset on lowsec mining the people are the biggest hurdle/asset.

As a noob, I like low sec mining with as basic a fit as possible. Literally 2 miner lasers, 2 mining drones and afterburner.
You are going to die fast. Why fit more than necessary? You can find Gneiss/Crokite deposits, on the scanner, fill your hold with 900k worth of rocks, dock, unload and repeat. The only pain are rats..just warp away to the next belt etc etc..
Cheap as chips

Because as it turns out, even a single MSE is enough to help a venture survive a single alpha should you get locked and shot at before you could warp out, if for some reason you didn't catch the guy dropping in on you on short range d-scan.
So might as well add in a bit of tank and anything that will make other guys sad to improve your chances of surviving the haul.

No experience on it but I would imagine using a cloak and going to the far ends of belts. If you notice someone coming in you should be able to shut miners off and cloak at the far end of the belt and just head in a random direction. Would make npcs annoying tho. Don't think you can cloak if they have you locked but I've never tried it I imagine youd have to kill npcs fast or just move to a different belt every now and then.
I have a venture somewhere in one of my usual systems but it's for high sec, 2 medium regolith extenders, scanner, mining upgrade and miner II' s. And I think purge rigs. I'm down to almost no pg for a third high but iirc it's like 36hp/s passive rep with a few thousand shield hp. Kind of expensive for something that would get blown up in low sec. Probably costs 10m which imo is way to much to spend on a venture. Id rather just have a cloak and try to be sneaky, maybe put on an overdrive so your a smidge faster while cloaked. I'm not sure if an overdrive affects ore hold, you dont need the cargo hold space on a venture.

@topic Try to talk to the locals/neighbors, let them know you're REALLY just there for mining some ores and not a bait from their enemies. Maybe even befriend them to get opportunities like having blue standings with them, or even an invite to their groups. This will only work if you're a regular in a few systems though.

I've found FW systems to be great for Venture mining. If a Venture pops up on d-scan, most pirates will presume it's a stabbed plex farmer, and not a miner, and hop to another system.
On the otherhand, if you're in a non-FW system, pirates will rightly assume that Venture = miner.
Try to mine in a belt that's at least 14AU away from gates and stations. That way, you won't pop up on dscan of passers-by.
I wouldn't bother tanking the Venture. Low slot would be for a WCS, and ECM for mids if you can fit any. ECM can break the lock of any frigate-sized ganker. |

I saw yesterday a Venture mining in a frontier Null region. It seemed rather risky to me, even if the area was pretty calm. I suppose low would be even worst, because of the comparative overpopulation. |
