So when will the font be replaced? I don't know about everyone else, but this still bothers me. It's still a pain to try to tell the difference between 0/O, 5/6/G, 3/8/B, I/l/1, etc. ingame and the current ad-hoc font options do jack to improve readability for me.
Afaik, I have still not seen a reason from CCP as to why they don't want to change the font. Will I have to bring this up every month/patch/expansion before something happens to improve font readability and options?

Believe it or not, that would cost a pretty penny
Fonts in games are a bit different then the ones in every day users fonts. Copyright thingies and stuff
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

I don't think you're at all correct there. If I wrote a new wordprocessor for windows, I wouldn't have to pay extra to use the inbuilt machine fonts, so why should games be any different?
The fonts are licenced with the OS, not the software that uses them.
Unless you use those fonts in DTP and produce a newspaper or suchlike with them, but it's the end result, ie the newspaper, not the DTP application that needs extra licencing for the font usage.
Edit: schpeeling.

I much prefer how this font doesn't change every week like they did for a bit after Cold War. -------------- Obligulatory 'opinion does not nescessarily represent those of my corp/alliance' stuff here. |

Yeah i can't remember was it a cost issue or what, but something there was that made it "harder" to do that all fonts were available...i'm a sad animal now...no memory...

Hrm... I'd like to hear how it would be "harder" if that were the case.

Edited by: Erim Solfara on 24/04/2007 19:05:12 I'd like to see the old Serif font from Exodus(?) as a dropdown option ...or whenever it was.

Fonts in 3d applications are different than fonts in word-processors. You will have to create a bitmap with all letters on it, which can be used in the game. So, if I type an A, the game would draw a square on my screen, then map that bitmap over it in such a way that only the A is visible (kinda simplified, and based on OpenGL)
However, I'm sure that IF ccp wanted to change the font they'd do it. So we just have to convince them :) Right now the capital O and the Zero number are exactly the same! That's -1 to accessibility points! _ Planet Sight Wallpaper - EvE map |

Then why do most 3D games I know store fonts in .ttf format, just like Windows?
I have seen people edit the EVE STUFF files to add fonts of their own. Against the EULA, but it works fine.

I also said: Based on OpgenGL. I have no clue on how DirectX works... But now that I think of it, I indeed do remember these font files. So I guess DirectX has native support for windows fonts :)
I should stop trying to sound like an expert
edit: should've researched fonts more. Just read that OpenGL can use system fonts too. Time to fix my Eve Map :D _ Planet Sight Wallpaper - EvE map |

The older fonts were better. This font has a bad Eve feel. I don't like having to C&P text in the game to notepad just to figure out what it says

G and & look the same to me. For a while I was wondering what in the world a RGD agent was and why it wasn't listed in the FAQ
A more eye-friendly font would be nice for sure. I'd like to hear the reasons why there aren't options for choosing a font as well. Having spent time in a game that shall not be named (momentary weakness), that allowed customization of the UI and such, its too bad that at least font options don't currently exist.
