Q: Would it be too hard to have the "Bubble" of your shields pop up around your ship every time you get shot and once your shields are gone the bubble will not be there anymore?
I am just a little curious about that. I would like that to come about some how.

I was having the idea of reacting shields myself now for a while. Playing games like Star Trek: Bridge Commander and the Heagermonia Series made me wonder why there cannot be made more about the visual effects of the game. Sure it will require more from people and server, but aren't most of us bored by looking at the same stuff over and over again. The only thing the ship has as an effect not influenced by the player is the explosion. Shield reactions on impact and armor/hull explosions or loss of ship parts. It isn't impossible, a game inferior to EVE made it quite well.

Very well said. Once the shields are down and the force of the bubble isnt available to keep things off the armor of the ship then the armor could be damaged and scared with burn marks and such. Also, if they make Armor/Hull like the shields (i.e. once all the armor is gone the hull starts to go and not the way it is now) then chunks of armor can be seen coming off the ship. I think it takes layers to skins if there is such a thing. They probably cannot do that for the same reason you cannot change the paint on your ships. The load time for a "scared" ship would be a little longer.

I wouldn't like to see this briliant game go down trough time, why not update and get more packed into this game. Graphic effects and the versitality of this game magnetized me. I was trough the first 2-3 days only saying cool. I only want to experience that feeling again, to be proud of playing such a great game. Even if it means to pay a buck or two extra each month. Come on CCP, you can do it and show the world what you are made of. Give better graphics and if necesary charge the public and cut a month or two on the pay to your workers :)! It would be a blast as a result and you would get more players, trust that. I myself got 12 into this game. I can do more, alot more for those who said they weren't really impressed.

It'd be nice, but remember the targeting feature in Eve *always* aims at a single, central point of the ship. It just hits the same place over and over (strangely enough, even if you miss the ship you see it hitting that spot). Until you get the ability to aim at specific parts of the ship (preferably if that ever happened this would be implemented with it), or the ability to aim manually, it just won't make much.
As for the "shield bubble"...who says it's a bubble? The shields could be millimetres off the hull. Certainly, it doesn't neccessarily flare up on impact...do you see a wall glow every time you hit it with a hammer? Just so you get the idea. It'd be nice, but only a small, small change, and again you have that weapon-always-targets-same-point thing . _______________________________________________________________________
IMPORTANT: Devs (and players) please take notice. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. |

Get a shield hardener/booster. Now activate it. See the bubble?

Actually, when fireing it dosent aim at the center of your opponenet's ship. With the new look-at feature you can actually watch your opponent's ship get hammered =P
On the other hand, your weapons will only hit one of about 6 target places on the ship depending on which lazor is used and which part of the opposing ship is visable in direct line of fire so if you kill ships quick enough, you may only see it fire at only one location a couple times before the ship explodes. (take a small pulse lazor to a 1k rat, orbit with a couple AB's and see how many diffrent targets your lazor will hit)

Yea, that was always an odd one, ya can miss 19 times in a row but every time your lazor still collides with the other ship... Heck, even mining lazors miss asteroids more then my beams miss pirates =P

Thats not necessarily true; if you fire an EM burst on the port side of a ship, whats to say the surge dosent carry over to the aft side and cause the explosion that shreads a hole in your ship =P

Granted but as was mentioned with the shield booster, you get a bubble upon activation as well as when you activate a shield hardner which increases the damage resistance of the shield you would think the resulting white surge is the visual effect of the sheild gaining its resistance.
Of course its funny, if you activate a small shield booster on a battleship you get this tiny little bubble that pops up in the center of the ship...

Not just a small shield booster, I just tested out an XL shield booster on my Dominix, it made a perfectly round shield bubble effect about 1/4 the size of the ship... It looked sort of like I was getting hit.

bleh... all wants a shield bubble.. but frankly the bubble can be 3mm thick and still stop an whole torpedo if strong enough.
and a bubble shield would take alot more power to have a bubble larger but weaker than the ship than a 3mm layer of superstrong shield.

Okay, So make the shields rest a few meters off the armor plating. Have the shield boosters reflect the shape of your ship. And have the flare of the shields when you get hit. Can it be done easily and without too much effort from CCP?

Well basicly the issue is theirs to decide, many bad excuses have been given and I doubt the chance that an idea from the payers will get to the ears and mind of CCP, I hope, but I doubt. I at least support your idea to the full and a try should be worth our creativity!

Edited by: Uuldahan on 05/01/2004 00:45:08 Edited by: Uuldahan on 05/01/2004 00:44:03 Oh yes, I completly agree with the author of the thread. A shield bubble should appear when we're under fire. I-WAR 2 was amazing for it. During my first fight, I was really disappointed to not see any shield's graphics around my ship. A stuning game like EVE has to do something about that
