As a miner I have decided to run some missions with my local npc corp that I use for refining and producing.
I know that I need a standing of about 6.5 to reduce station fees to 0.
I have trained connections so I have immediate access to lvl 2 agents. Clearly I am most interested in getting standing increase and I plan on running combat missions. The lvl 2 agent I have just started with is about a -10 quality.
What should my strategy be? 1. do i stick with this low quality agent and just focus on getting access to lvl 3 agents? or keep moving up the lvl 2 agent quality ladder 2. should i keep training connections (currently lvl 2) to max standing increase, should I work any other social skill to improve my standing or increase the amount of standing I get from missions
I know I can cope with lvl 3 and probably lvl 4 missions from what I have seen of the guides but just need to climb the agent ladder quickly. If I can get to lvl 4 agents quickly I guess that will mean I have to run less missions.
Any advice on what my tactics should be? Priority - stnading high enough for 0% station fees with least amount of missions run?

Move to a higher quality lvl 2 quality 18 once you can. This agent will give you better standing then a -18 lvl 3 agent. Once you can use q6 lvl 3 agent or so move to that one.
No point staying on the same agent as LP suck anyway.

If your a dedicated miner then I doubt your going to have the skills to solo level 4 missions,at least combat missions. I know I was in the same position you are now ,months ago.
I tried to keep a 60/40 mix of skills, 60% in mining/production related skills and 40% combat related. If your skills break down to an equal or higher average for your mining/industry skills then your going to have a long road ahead of you to get skills needed to try level 4s.
If I knew what I know now as well as had a desire to stay primarily a miner, I wouldn't have touched combat missions. Its a lot easier to get a badger and transport goods, especially thanks to "warp to 0". I'm not a mission expert but you get the biggest standing increases when you finish a storyline mission, which you get every 15 missions I believe.
If you go for non combat missions then you don't need to shift your skill training. You'll simply be using your existing skills to get your standing up. I know that when I had to shift gears from mining/industrial skills to purely combat skills that put a bullet into my industrial career in eve.
I'd say go for combat missions if your looking to make isk. I know that I can still make more isk per hour mining then doing missions so grinding missions isn't the most effective way to build isk for me. Also do combat missions if your looking to blow stuff up and get bored easily, if your a miner then chances are you dont fall into that category. Do combat missions if your tired of mining or just want a break from it.
One last thing, regardless of what route you plan to go with, be it combat missions or transport related missions, make sure that you check the NPC corp's available agents. Don't settle for low quality agents just because they are in your normal area of operations. That is something that held me back for a bit.
Okay maybe one more thing, figure what type of missions you want to do then see what type of agents you'll be working for. If your doing combat youll be working for security, intelligence and so on. Then check the market for social skill books that give you a bonus for working with those agents. Also be sure to scoop up a charisma implant, those suckers are cheap compared to the rest of equal level.

Edited by: El''essar Viocragh on 25/04/2007 12:08:38 You can get the standing for 0% tax without L4 agents just fine. A L3Q15 in a 0.6 or 0.5 should be enough.
- "Connections" as standings shortcut - "Social" to increase gained standing from missions
The higher your standing gets the more the importance shifts towards social, as the benefits from connections diminish.
Don't count on storyline missions, the storyline agent is in all likelyhood from a different corp. Save the isk for the connections books. They raise the gained LP, so they aren't that useful if you are not hunting LP rewards.

At least L3 in each, preferably L4 in each Social and Connections help a lot anyway in EVE, so train them up in that order (both L3 first, then optionally L4 social, and even L4 connections).
The sound of clues whooshed above everybody's heads a. Best way to get CORP standings up is from storylines b. Best way to get storylines is easy missions
So the answer is pretty simple: 1) find a list of all STORYLINE agents in the target corp 2) run missions for ANY corp whatsoever, preferably L1/L2 kill missions, as long as it's VERY NEAR the desired agent 3) if you don't get a storyline for your desired agent, DO NOT COMPLETE THEM, instead keep spamming lowlevel missions until you get more storylines, eventually activating the desired storyline agent 4) profit _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Minor nit pick... you need 6.67 standings to get 0% refining tax. Other than that, good advice in here. It's easy getting the necessary standings with just level 3 agents and by all means get those social skills up! --- Honest officer, the dwarf was on fire when I got here! Firstly, thank you everyone for reading my problem and responding with such good advice.
6.67% it is and that is my new target. Its nice to know I can avoid lvl 4 missions, and it was correctly identified that my combat skills are not great, good but not great.
NEW QUESTION Now I found myself due to a rather active system moving to some nearby systems, some of which do not contain my preferred npc corp. Rather than haul MASSIVE amounts of ore the time saving will be to refine in the system I have mined in. So am I correct in my understanding that if I want to increase my faction standing for Amarr in order to use any and all Amarr npc corps at nil cost locally that I only get faction standing from storyline missions?
Practically I am sensing that 6.67 standing with a corp is easy but 6.67 with a faction is a whole new conversation but can someone clarify this for me please. It might just not be worth the time against the amount I could have mined in that time (gut instinct) but I am not sure if I am correct in my understanding.
Any thoughts welcome.

Ps, I will be working command, security and internal security agents. I have a set of +3 implants and maxed learning skills. I do not have any of the specialist social books as its not been on my path todate but will pick the three up that are relevant.

Faction standing has no influence on refining bill.
Only corp standing does. The corp owning the station. You can have 8.0 base faction standing with no connections trained, and the "we keep" quote for stations where you have no relations with the owner corp is still 5%.
Storylines do indeed give out faction standings, but they ALSO give HUGE corp standing increases to the corp of the storyline agent... about the same or even more as the 16 missions you previously completed. Heck, a 20% CORP standing increase per L4 storyline mission is not all that uncommon... now compare that to 16 L4 "cargo transport" missions from a Storage agent and you'll see what I mean. Oh, and the occasional implant reward isn't bad either.
P.S. And, oh, if you got to some L4 agents in the target corp, chances are you're already close to your target standing. For instance, a L4 Q0 agent needs 6.00 standing to use (personal, corp or faction). _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Follow Akita's advice, use storylines to improve your corp standing.
When I started my character I had access to level 4 agents even before my trial access was finished. I managed to do that by running all my storylines for the corp I wanted to raise standings for. Run a mix of lvl 2/3/4 agents (only had a Caracal so I was not able to do all lvl 3 agents and of course only courier for lvl 4, those courier missions you can do in a shuttle are great).
What I do is to take a look at the agent database on eveinfo. Look in which systems you have storyline agents for that corp. If the corp has any agents you can use there then run the mission there. If the storyline agent is in the same station as your normal agent you will always get storylines from that agent. In most cases also if the agent is in the same system (but it has happned that I got a storyline from another agent).
If you are for example going to run lvl 3 agents and there are no lvl 3 agent for that corp in the system with the storyline agent, then run 15 missions in another system and when doing the last mission you do that for wahtever lvl 3 agent there is in the same system as storyline agent.
This is what I do now for getting standing with Roden Shipyards. I run 15 missions for the lvl 3 q14 Roden agent in Alenia. Then I head over to Jufvitte and run 1 mission for the lvl 3 Aliastra agent and every time I get a storyline from the Roden agent in Jufvitte.
If you are lucky then you get one of those missions that give you 20-30% corp standing. That will get you same standing as running 10-20 hard lvl 3 kill missions.
And courier missions are you best friend to get storyline missions. They are usually very quick to do (turn down if they are to far away). Also if you have access to R&D agents of that race/level then do these as well since they are counted for storyline missions. R&D missions are usually gettign some Tritanium or take 1.0 m3 cargo 1-2 jumps away.

Yep - currently working on Ytiri Storage standings with a Ytiri-based storyline agent: 16 quick runs in a Crane (I know it's boring etc ) with a neerby Level 4 mining agent from a different corp yielded 2 points hike in my copr standing. That is 2 points, from 2-odd to 4-odd, not 20%!
The best way to raise your standings with a corp is to find a storyline agent with that corp (if one exists) and then milk the highest level agent you can find close to him (preferrably not a combat etc one - 16 missions take waaaay longer than 16 cargo runs). If you can't find a storyline agent for the corp you're interested in - find a highest standing combat-oriented agent you can use and move there on a 3-4 days TOD. In this case "kill" missions produce much higher gain in standings than anything else.
