Three hungry Skiffs in a worm hole, with Arkonor, Bistot and Crokite crystals, chowing down. Some guy in a Nemesis shows up, target locks the Arkonor Skiff. Hey, it's a Nemesis, the Skiff sics five Hammerhead 2's on him then the whole world explodes as the Nemesis fires some kind of awe inspiring fireworks. Scares hell out of the Skiffs they warp for the gate, the one Skiff abandoning his Hammerheads. The targeted Skiff figures he was warping his pod but back at the gate the Skiff is still with us, showing slight shield damage.
OK, so we all go home, tail between our legs.
But then, a week or so later, the Skiff pilot who left his Drones gets a kill report. Or he actually checked his notifications and the kill report was in there. Apparently his drones finished the job on their own, killing the Nemesis.
He not only could have recovered his drones but the Nemesis dropped some cool loot.
Sometimes missed opportunities sting worse than outright defeats.
Insert nasty expletive here.

i think that a skiff can solo a stealth bomber.
with 3 skiffs you shouldn't even have warped away.
so yea...
dunno about the drones thing though  |

In a wormhole, there's never just one Stealth Bomber. That's why you warp away. |

you will be amazed at what solo bombers attempt to do in wh, they frequently fly solo.

A lone torp bomber isn't going to worry even one skiff, three of them have ehp numbers and resists that need an incredible amount of damage to kill.
Bombers learning their engagement profiles regularly die to procurers because they figure mining ship = easy. Know your target or get wrecked.
Drones yellow box as soon as controlling pilot is off grid or out of ship. If they scored the final blow then their owner must have been on grid. Proc/Skiff bonuses mean lights are a better drone to field than mediums or heavies, faster and apply damage better.
Don't know why anyone would get a kill report a week or so later.

Probably the reason why that pilot didn't get a kill report until a week or so later is because that character has a fairly full training regimen and figured anything in there were just skill set training completion notices. Lazy people in this crew.
And yeah, warping out was a sort of training at work, in that I've lost enough ships to gang bangers that if one shows up then I'm gone, although in this case I was most likely wrong, I'm thinking he was solo.
I don't usually worry abut the money, but this was kind of cool in that for the very few minutes I was mining I brought out a little over 5 mil ISK, but then it cost a little over 6 mil to replace the Hammerheads. Just another few minutes and I'd been in clear money.
Win some lose some.

Your mate's Hammerheads probably Alpha'd the SB, meaning the bomb he dropped probably detonated for zero damage. This matches with your account of events as well. Poor choice by that bomber pilot and good reflexes by your friend :) |

Seconded. Although a bomber usually pops very quickly, it's the guys who are with the bomber you have to worry about. I don't know how many times I've engaged a lone legion/proteus/gnosis only to have his 10 buddies warp on to me and de-cloak. But in a wormhole you gotta do it - every single fight has the possibility of escalating very quickly. But then again that cuts both ways. I have friends too :) |

Probably just a newb pilot that has watched wingspan vids and thinks a bomber can fight anything. Drones keep fighting until they disconnect which is something like 150km from your ship. They don't disconnect as soon as you initialize warp, they keep fighting, the bomber probably died during the skiffs acceleration to warp speed.
If that is how you react to attack , why use a Skiff ? |

Was there an NPC on the Killmail?
If an NPC finished off the Nemesis in the same system as much as 20 minutes later. The Skiff pilot would have got on the Killmail and be given the final blow notificaton. Just a quirk of the notification system. I've received KMs like that showing me getting the final blow with a pod.
Edit: Other quirks I've witnessed.
1. I once got on a Killmail with Hammerhead IIs while flying a Rifter. After reshipping midfight but not getting back into the fight before the target died.
2. I once gave a Killmail to a pilot I'd previously killed, when 10 minutes later I one shotted a cyno noobship then lost my ship to station guns. |

Probably because it was first execution of a long thought out and planned new tactic. OK, I was nervous and this was more a proof of concept than an established protocol so off I went to conduct in depth debrief, all that. There is a certain amount of evaluation going on, thinking next time use Prospects with a guardian angel, see how that works. Big difference in setup with low rent miners instead of crystalled, maybe stabs but they play hob with targeting range, a bunch of conflicting variables. See which way works best.
My biggest problem is impatience at scanning down wormholes, but I'm working on that, as well.
