Hi fellow pilots,
I have fit a Dominix for level 4 missions. You will find it below. I just finished my first mission with it called 'Rogue Drone Harassment' and it went well. I have no idea if the missions will get harder and my question is:
What can I expect from future level 4 missions? What should I improve / upgrade first? (Could be modules and/or skills.)
Some notes: - During the missions I had to warp out once, because my capacitor was almost empty. I couldn't use the Energy Nosferatu yes because I will have the skills for it tomorrow. I hope it will be enough. - I like to throw out a mobile tractor unit and loot 'n salvage everything. - The tech II version of the fitted high/mid/low modules will fit the ship, but not my skills. - The tech II version of the rigs will also fit the ship, but not my wallet. - I didn't see any use for the Micro Jump Drive so maybe an afterburner will do, or maybe nothing / something else? - Switching on the Omnidirectional Tracking Link didn't seem to add anything.
Here is the fit. I hope you have some advice for me.

Your fit is pretty sensible for a new player.
Priority is sentry drones which you don't seem to have yet, this is where the microjump drive comes in as you can then deploy them at range it is also where the omni tracking link is most effective. An afterburner may be more appropriate until you get sentries, keeping your speed up can mitigate some damage.
Small tips
Try a reactive armour hardener instead of the damage control.
You should be able to use a Adaptive nano plating 2 (non energised) this is as good as the prototype energised version but will save CPU.
If you are restricted to heavies then switch the omni to another navi comp for now. |

DLAs and omnis don't really add anything if you're not using sentry drones. Neither does the MJD. Now, all of those things go in to most general L4 Dominix fits, which do generally range tank with sentries.
Now, if you were to do a brawling Domi for L4s? Maybe something like this:
[Dominix, L4 brawler]
Large Armor Repairer II Armor Thermal Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Damage Control II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II
100MN Afterburner II Drone Navigation Computer II Drone Navigation Computer II Large Micro Jump Drive Omnidirectional Tracking Link II, Tracking Speed Script
Heavy Energy Nosferatu II Heavy Energy Nosferatu II Large Remote Armor Repairer II [Empty High slot] [Empty High slot] [Empty High slot]
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Ogre II x5
Obviously that's a T2 fit so downgrade wherever. Logic is this:
1) your highs are kind of wasted on a mission Dominix. If you wanted to put guns up there, a Navy Dominix would be far, far superior. So... maybe try to use the highs for cap? The LRAR is there to help a drone here and there and help maintain agro.
2) Mids are as you'd expect, but I kept the LMJD. Why? Because rats don't scram and I highly suspect you're going to hit an oh **** moment when you need to get out. LMJDs will clear webs and rat tackle and should reduce damage enough for you to get away with your hull intact. If for whatever reason you don't feel you need that, I'd swap for a cap booster in a heartbeat. DNCs are there to speed up your drones (obviously). Scripted omni is to help your heavies actually hit smaller things.
3) Lows are tank. Honestly, a fifth slot on tank isn't a bad idea; EANM or reactive hardener would do fine. Damage mods are damage mods. I'm a little concerned with the meta armor rep you listed; since you'll be up close and personal you'll be taking lots of damage and might want to at least consider splurging on a better repper.
4) Rigs? Well, if you dropped the LMJD for a cap booster I'd swap to armor rigs. But as is you'll want the cap. Even with the CCCs and both nos on you can't sustain the LRAR but at least you can keep your local running indefinitely.
But yeah: train into sentries. Dominix is a much better range tank sentry ship than it is mission brawler. |

Thank you both for giving me advice!
You both mentioned the Reactive Armor Hardner. Maybe together with the Armor Repairer II (which I will have to train for) and the Auxiliary Nano Pump(s) my Dominix will have enough tank. Of course that will put a little more pressure on the capacitor. I will tinker with it a bit more and see how things look in the simulator.
I will also look into range tanking using Sentry Drones together with a Micro Jump Drive.

You definitely should take a look at the sentries. With low skills it is not easy to get a proper balance between tank and good damage yet sentries allow you to sit outside of the damage and EWAR ranges of many NPCs(especially Serpentis) and do very consistent and reliable damage with good application.
If you use EFT, Pyfa or just the ingame fitting browser, take a look at the following fitting:
[Dominix, sentries tech 1]
Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Prototype Armor Thermal Hardener I Prototype Armor Kinetic Hardener I Large 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer I
Large Micro Jump Drive Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range Script Denny Enduring Omnidirectional Tracking Link, Optimal Range Script Denny Enduring Omnidirectional Tracking Link, Optimal Range Script Large Cap Battery II
250mm Railgun I, Iron Charge M Drone Link Augmentor I Drone Link Augmentor I Drone Link Augmentor I Drone Link Augmentor I [Empty High slot]
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Anti-Thermal Pump I Large Anti-Kinetic Pump I
Warden I x5 Bouncer I x5 Curator I x5
You'll want one set of sentries usually, together with corresponding set of heavies and some light drones for small stuff that you might encounter on warp-ins. When you learn how to properly move between two mission gates in two MJD jumps, you should be comfortably clearing missions from comfortable distance between you and the nemies, without taking much damage or even any need to warp out inbetween.
On the other hand it won't be overly exciting - but you need better skills for exciting ships in general - and salvaging is not really an option other than leaving MTUs in pockets(and of course !!!bookmarking!!! them ) to come back in a salvaging ship after the mission. |

As others pointed out sentry drones will be more effective since they do not have travel time and the domi can filed all tools to make them effective at all ranges later on. I would however focus on long range 1-2 drone tracking links for extra range early on and use the mjd to keep your ship out of the range of the NPCs and assure good tracking with your sentry drones.
You should switch out the drone navigation computer with a sensor booster(use scan resolution to lock frigs quick at close and locking range once you used the mjd if they get to close) and use 2 sentry sets, 1 would be always garde since it is the fastest tracking at close and the other set would be Curator, Bouncer or Warden depending on the kind of NPCs you fight. There are faction versions of the sentry drones that provide better damage and tracking then the T1 versions and are well worth the ISK till you trained for T2.
Salvager or tractor beams will be most likely not a big use to you since you will fight with the domi mostly outside of her range and finishing the mission, drop a MTU, make a BM on one wrack and come back with another ship with a full rack of preferable 8 salvager's and to scoop the loot(destroyer, BC or Noctis).

lose the damage control add another drone damage amplifier instead
damage control gives upto 60% resistance to STRUCTURE your doing pve, not pvp essentially you are wasting the slot
if your tank starts dropping below 30(ish)%, warp out, regen back to 100% and then go back
when you are offered the mission (do not accept it straight away) check eve-survival info tailor your +resistance modules to the mission then accept it
old general rule of thumb was 1000dps in tank&gank ie if youre doing 600dps damage, you should be ok with around 400dps of tank |

I say bring a mobile depot.
Warp to mission, jump 100km, drop depot. Fit to max range, max damage, sentry drone flavor and minimal tank (if any!) Drone Link Augmentor I Omnidirectional Tracking Link, Optimal Range Script Drone Damage Amplifier II
You will be hit with cruise missiles, dealing maybe 400~600 dps.. a Reactive Armor Hardener will help you identify which hole to cover, just bring additional hardeners on your cargo.
If things are getting hairy, and you messed up your triggers/too much cruise missiles/you're up against guristas... refit max tank and jump out to a citadel, and hang out at tether range for free reps.
Other things you might need: MWD - to help crawl faster/align for warp faster Sensor boosters - target further/faster |
