I gather from other threads I've come across (and sigs) that some people get annoyed if you post with more than one character on forum boards, or only with an alt. I've been here less than a month and (a) haven't completely decided which of my characters will end up being my main, (b) am not sure I will have just one "main" anyway, since I don't care about giving one char some training time off in favor of another, (c) am planning to reroll this char, the first one I made, in order to tweak her looks (tattoos ftw!) and give her a surname. My inclination for the future is to post on the boards in character of whichever one I feel is the most appropriate to the question/comment. Is anyone likely to have a problem with this, and should I care? Not that I can see how anyone would figure it out unless I told them...
What will happen to this char's forum posts when I delete her?
I suppose that corps might have issues with spies or some such. Do they generally have rules about alts?

I post with my main. I figure I have nothing to hide & my views are pretty mainstream. The people that use alts to flame are the type that they have a problem with, IMHO
I know the speed of light...but what's the speed of dark? |

Usually the "Post with your main!" argument comes up when a defamatory/trolling/flaming response or question is posted.
I occasionally post with an alt only because I was checking their progress or some such. As stated above, I have nothing to hide and treat everyone in a civil manner, even those who buy my ships and ammo and then try to kill me with it.
Spies are a problem, and paranoia runs rampant on EVE. That's just the culture within the community.
BTW, all the greats only had one name - Elvis, Donovan, Bach, Kurlieu, Beckham, Kasparov. Audurin is fine.

Many people who don't post with their main are people who belong to alliances and they don't want their comments to reflect on their alliance negatively.
It would be nice if people realized that individual players do not represent their alliance, but often people will jump on anything said by one member of an alliance and use it to smack and flame the alliance as a whole. This has resulted in both Goonswarm and BoB (two of the top alliances in the game) to pretty much ban theit members from talking on the forums. However, this ban only really applies to the CAOD (corp/alliance forum) because that is where the most flaming, smacking goes on.
As a result people in those alliances uses alts to post, so that they can get their comments in without breaking the rule. The alliances are only really concerned with the bad PR of having their members getting into flamewars.

Hee! Thank you. If it were only the name, I'd likely not bother, but I've decided I'm not satisfied with her looks and don't want to pay actual money to change them since she's only got a couple weeks of skillpoints. Also I'm curious to start her over as a Trader.

I have now decided for sure that this char will be my main (death to slavers!), so I guess I'm OK there. Not that anyone probably cares, but in the interests of full disclosure.
...bother, I'm an exclamation mark again.

Although I don't agree with the language, I do agree with your point.
Why is it that people become so deathly afraid of posting with their main? I mean, it's a video game, it's the internet, it's a video game, oh wait I said that.... Anyways, I enjoy reading people's thoughts and ideas and I hope to encounter many of you in-game, as the people which I read about. For some reason, I like honest people.

From the point of view of someone who always uses an alt to post: I do it because when I'm logged on my main, I want zero risk of being bothered by people I don't know. The fact that I can play with a small group of friends and escape from the people who will normally be contacting me under this name is important to me. Also, Daeva is the name people will see on the Help channel, since I've got it turned off on my main, so I figure it's good to keep with the same name and face.

You only need to worry about posting with your alt if you are making people upset, as upset people have the occasional habit of tracking you down and blowing you up.
I have seen posts on the forums before where someone will pose an argument with their main, then support/defend their own argument by posting with their alt. This is considered poor form, don't do it.
Beyond "don't be a d*ck" and "dont start arguments with yourself", post with your alt whenever you want. Most people won't even know it's you.

I only have 1 Eve character and this is it. I don't use alts.
In my mind having 1 character only allows all my time playing Eve to that one character ergo he will progress faster...
Well, that and I'm too lazy to fill out the paperwork at the clone factory for an alt :P
