There is much discussion about this ship class, and why it is underutilized.
How do you use it? What tactics are viable?
As far as I can understand, a Black Op BS is just a support tool that should be used to bridge recons, bombers, t3 and blockade runners around, and that's cool, but they have really little fuel capacity. Wouldn't it make sense to bring a blockade runner along with a BO to solve once for all the fuel problem? |

Yes, having a BR accompany your covops gang is a pretty standard tactic, it has to be considering the fuel issue. Though some people will stockpile fuel ahead of time if they are moving along a planned route.

Or you get like 10 of them, and just drop them like normal BSs on some idoit ratting and then jump out with the loot. |

If you plan ahead, you bridge in some blockade runners to the safespot you'll be staging from. Have them anchor GSCs full of the isotopes you'll need (with some hard work and a lot of warping, badguys can use celestials to bounce around dropping bookmarks until they land on grid with your cans, so it helps to create a bookmark that is nigh impossible to reach using this method). If you're jumping the BS into the action (that's not always the best idea but if you're confident about your survival chances go for it), it may not be the worst idea to have a blockade runner bridged in with the bombers and recons who will immediately get away from the fight and cloak up until you call on him to top off your fuel tank for the bridge back.
If you're going to be sitting around in hostile space cloaked and on standby, you need to make certain that nobody decloaks while afk. This gives the badguys an opportunity to probe you out. If he's afk and you're seeing combat probes on overview, sorry but you'd best be blowing up his ship before he gives away your position. Sucks to be him but he shouldn't have been decloaked.
Everyone should be in a position (preferably >150km away from the blops BS so they can warp in as the pilot decloaks to open the bridge) that guarantees they won't decloak others.
Bear in mind that recons, unlike bombers, cost a considerable amount of fuel to bridge through. Armor plates add a LOT of mass to your recon and chews up a lot of fuel. Also, iirc, an active mwd adds a huge amount of mass to your ship while it is cycling, again chewing up a lot of fuel.
If several recons/T3s are going through, the blops BS should be positioned beside a can containing his racial isotopes when he decloaks and be ready to dragdrop more fuel into the fuel bay as quick as he can while the bridge is up to ensure everyone gets through before the bridge goes down.
So that's a few of the things I've learned thus far. Blopsing is great fun (when you can find targets ... otherwise it's pretty much just sitting around while you wait for your covert cyno scouts to find something). |
