As it stands right now, you enter a system, everyone can see you in local. If this feature was removed so you only showed up if u used the chat it would add a new and needed feature to eve.
No more docking the sec someone with a neutral or red tag enters the system.
Pirates cant just breeze through systems without scanning them down for ships.
Miners and ratters will need to use their scanner often or have a cov ops scout on gates.
Allows fleets to use safe spots and makes apposing fleets more dependeant on a scouting system.
Jita will load alot faster......
To many upsides to this for it to be ignored. As it is right now, pvp is dead for me, game is boring in that I have to camp a gate to get a kill...If I go out solo, eather they dock, or get 3 or 4 corp mates to scan me down once their in their pvp ships...

there seems to be two kind of pirates. those who have no problem at all finding action and those who never get any action what so ever and whine about it on forums.
granted your post isnt particularly whiny but still what you suggest is good for attackers (incl pirates) and bad for defenders (incl miners). for the most part at least.
pirates whine about miners being too protected. miners whine about pirates having it too easy. i doubt ccp is going to change the local chat anytime soon. well, not ever imo, so lets just try and live with it.
if pvp is dead to you, maybe you should try mining:)

Sounds like your a miner who enjoys their easy mode mining ops and doesnt like the idea of a recon ship up his butt....

bears would whine something rotten if this came in. plus tbh i don't like the idea of warping sometimes to more than 5 different scan locations just to find out i'm in an empty system.

The local chat works fine as is..Your always gonna have insta dockers and poeple to hunt them down,
so do your best to use the game as is..
But i still like reading ideas such as this, keep em coming

Always tought the point of the gates is the scanned you as you use 'em... hence the charge...  Now if ya cloack in system then you should vanish fom local...

I pirate, and I like local just how it is.
If you can't hang with the big boys, sorry about your luck.
I'm just tired of people coming on here begging for changes to be made because they want the game to be easier for themselves.

i like local, its nice to see old friends, and finding fights is normally easy. I,m sorry to hear you are having problems with pvp/targets tho.
Maybe get a nice postive sec status, advertise your corp as a mining/industrial operation - selling ships and ammo - befriend the locals, then turn nasty once the trust has been earned. Then move on - rinse and repeat.

I may not know pirating, but I know ratting and Mining.
This would mean no more mining and ratting in LowSec by the few who do it.
We wouldnt come at ALL anymore.
It would be a huge LowSec nerf.

Here here about missing the mini-map, though you can get a minier crapier version by hitting F11. I don't personally bother.
As for local, learn to love it, it's not going anywhere. The whole point of neg sec status is to be seen easily as someone who shoots people on local. Other wise it's just interesting colors on the overview while they scram and pop you.
If you can't find action I suggest moving elsewhere. Sounds like your favorite fishing hole is all fished out. Leave a while, let the bears get comfy and then drop by again in a month to remind em it's low sec.
Alternately get one bear corp on your corp's blue list, make em pay for it. Their presence will make other bears feel safer and you just NBSI instead of kill all. You can even o/ to your pets on local to further seem harmless to the ones you didn't make nice with.

It's the same mini map you got by hitting F11, just at the cost of littering your screen with useless crap like a mini universe map (wtf were they thinking?!).

I'm a pretty carefull fellow... and when I'm ratting, ususally for sec status, even more so. That said Im not gonna spam my scanner every 3 seconds to see if anything has gotten close to me.. it doesn't give much time to consider anything else I may be in the middle of.
Second, even if the chat system is delayed it might as well be thrown away. After all, why speak and give myself away in local if I dont know whom I speaking to, much less an empty system ?
but thats jsut my two cents

You pirates have it easy already being able too shoot at everything that flies and now this one pirate wants local too show nothing until you chat.
