I fly Amarrr. I must say I started flying them quite naively: mostly for the look of them, possibly the better looking in the game (although gallenteĘs ones also have their own appeal). Lately, I found myself wondering thou, if it was a wise move. Everyone keeps saying how Eve is well balanced. ItĘs not.
A corp mate of mine told me he saw this bio once Eve-online is divided in levels:
1st level ū Caldari ū Easy. 2nd level ū Gallente ū Difficult. 3rd level ū Amarr ū Impossible. 4th level ū Minmatar ū sparkles only.
After a year of experience, I found this to be quite true.
Caldari ships are notoriously the best for PVE. Carebears love them, and damn they are effective. PVP solo not that great but if you have been running lvl 4 missions and 0.0 ratting constantly you can replace your ship, quite quickly (without having to find a way to make money outside pew pewing).
Gallente are the best solo pvpers: they are fantastic killers: at least from the myrmidon up. PVE can get a bit difficult for them on certain ships (mission wise anyway) but their pve setup in 0.0 can very well be their PVP setup and still be incredibly effective.
Amarr, canĘt really pve: wellą up to lvl 2 is fine. Lvl 3 is ok. Lvl 4 missions and Amarr pilots generally cry.. ratting in low sec is fine. in 0.0, I found only one Amarr bs setup can barely take a over-a-mil caldari triple spawn (mind you, with a relatively inexpensive setup). I find Amarr BCs can almost do it better. Solo PVP? Well, there used to be a time (before Kali) where I would have taken my Prophecy in low sec and still be able to get some kills. Now, wellą itĘs just suicidal. Fleet battles? Well Amarr bses can be ubertanked (and use them as massive nos- takling ship) or shoot from the distance (for about a minute, maybe 2) then you need a little help from a logistic friend.
Minmatarą They have fun with their ship fittings to no end. But hey, they can still pve solo, pvp solo, and pvp in fleet.
I fly an Abaddon PVE, solo, in L4s. I don't have any trouble whatsoever. I even spent the last weekend helping my friend do a few L4s out in his neck of the woods.
He flies a Raven. Seemed like a nice ship. Not my thing, but it was very nice. We decided to stop trying to focus firepower on anything that wasn't a BS, because I kept popping them so fast and he was wasting whole salvos of missiles. I can tank like no one's business, and my lasers are rapid firing and quickly refocus their optimal to keep my DPS pouring on--without running out of cap.
Just have to think about your fittings. I have 6M skillpoints, 4 in all Learning.
