I've noticed that every now and again someone asks whether ratting in an AF in 0.0 space is possible. The answer is yes, deffo. But you need to be selective about which you use.
For me, the best all rounder is the Ishkur. It has the highest dps of the AFs and you can customise the drones to fit the damage type needed. Using an Ishkur I can happily take down 950k bounty angel rats in less than 4 minutes per ship, and I only have fair to middling drone skills.
The setup I use on my Ishkur is
HIGHS 3 x Light Ion Blaster II 1 x Small Nos
MIDS 1 x AB II 1 x Webber 1 x Cap Recharger
LOWS 1 x Small Armor Rep II 1 x Active armor resistance (damage specific) 1 x Passive resist / mag stab
DRONES 3 x Small combat (damage specific) 2 x Medium combat (damage specific)
The question you might ask is, 'Why use an AF when a BC can be fully insured and does the job faster?' The answer is simple; agility. I'm able to rat in the most hostile space because I know I can turn and warp out of danger quickly. As long as I keep an eye on scanner/local I can keep fairly safe. Also, I'm more likely to escape from opportunist gate campers in an AF than in a BC (which are plentiful these days).
Also, the Harpy, Enyo and Wolf are fairly good but only on certain types of rats respectively.
BTW, for all you guys with the flame throwers, I know a BC is more efficient for ratting than an AF so dont bother mentioning it, that isn't the point of this post.

And er, what exactly is the point of this post then?

FYI I guess. For anyone who wants to know. Sorry if this doesn't provide you with anything to flame.

I'm not trying/going to flame. It's just that if one has something to add one usually posts it on the end of an existing thread. I started a thread on exactly this about a week and a half ago. As with most threads in Ships & Mods, it ended up with Ryysa yelling at everyone. ---

It is the first thing he states in his post :)
Now, this might not be of any relevancy for you, but just move along then, without trying to de-rail a post I for one find highly relevant :)and if you go back a few pages it has indeed been debated in several posts lately :)
Now, to actually add something to the post: Besides agility the AF holds another major advantage over other ships capable of ratting in 0.0; Their very small signature radius :) I havent had the pleasure to fly one yet, but in my cruiser my low signature radius relative to the missiles fired at me, which is intended for battleships, means I take substantially less damage :)
Edit: Seeing the post above me, I would like to point out that your argument is not what your first post reflected :) I agree with the point on using existing threads, but you asked what actual point of this thread was :)

Thank you Zeth.
You're right, AFs can tank extremely well in 0.0 due to the low sig radius and high resists. Most missiles land for less than 10 damage each and most guns miss.

Yes, the point about existing threads is valid, but most old threads dont get looked at much after a day or so. I wanted this one to be seen :)

Drone ships are a bad choice if that's what you're trying to do, since you have to wait for your (bugged) drones to come back. Might not be such a problem with a close range Ishkur, but it's still slower than a turret cruiser or AF to warp off (unless you want to throw away your T2 drones every time something red pops up in local)...

That's not such a major problem for Ishkurs, cause a/ it matters less with light or med drones, and b/ the Ishkur is nimble enough to go and get them if they do that.

I am a Drone specialized player - I rat in 0.0 in Myrmidons and Domi's and also Ishtars and Ishkurs - in all these ships the only one I have never had to leave drones behind in is the Ishkur when ever I have had to bug out in a hurry, have allways managed to retrieve my drones while in that little nimble ship
It's just a game........Or is it?????

Yep, the ishkur's drones come back pretty quick. And when I compare it's dps to the other AF, the drone issue becomes very small fry.
Worse case senario: Someone you missed on scanner pops up on your overview. In that very worst case (and very rare case) I would obviously leave the drones and run, but it's a small price to pay.
