Sorry if this is the umpteenth thread started about this but i'm at work and i have to post quick. I just got done reading about the possible changes being made to asteroid belts and plexes and am a bit worried now.
I mean you're talking about screwing with the entire economy of the game here when all the nuts and bolts are out of the way, and i've never seen this successfully done on any game i've ever played.
I've played three games where the dev's for whatever reason decided the economy needed tweaking and each time it literally ruined the game for thousands and eventually led to the slow crippling death of the game.
I mean really all i need to say is NGE..... anyone that knows what that stands for knows what i'm talking about.
CCP, please, look very carefully before you even consider these changes your dev blog talked about. If you need hard evidence to look at then look to EQOA after the economy "fix", EQ2 after their 3 "fixes" and finally SWG after the NGE.
You built the game around the economy being controlled by the players. If you suddenly change the very foundation of that economy.
Thanks,
Signed

Please read the whole Dev Blog and not 'omfg we MOVING the belts'...
FYI belts will still be here but you will need to scan for them... it will make it a lot more fun and interesting unlike the boring "right click asteroid belt".

"Interesting" but it kinda kill solopvp in anything smaller than battleship, because now u will have to fit probre launcher and train skills just to find someone. Also probe launchers gimp ur ship soo bad thats not even funny (that ridiculous cpu :|). Did ccp consider that ? -- Jup another alt post, buy me a GTC so i can post with my main again :P |

Did you consider reading the part about the new built in scanner and not needing a probe launcher? No? Thought so.

(i also cba to trall through to find the original thred so it'll go here)
my concern is the length of time it will take to scan someone out. With cloaks and loggofski's its at times difficult to pin down a ratter before he hides himself. If the scan-time/difficulty does not change then i see no problem. ----------------------------------------------- logoffski is bad mmmk?

This is a HUGE mistake if they decide to go through with this. I mean the scanner is cool and all that but the belts need to be left alone. They mention only COMMON belts will be found by your scanner.
Now if thats the case what is the blinken point of this idea. I don't need an extra step to find belts just to rat in mutch less mine in. It would wreck several good things we have if they hide the rare ores.
Prices will go up (more time needed plus its by chance to find the belts = Bigger prices). There will not really be any more point to ratting thus crushing the best loot source many have.
Its just not going to make it worth implimenting. I like exploration but by golly if I wanna look for exploration stuff then I'll look I don't want the regular stuff hidden away.
This DEV needs to take 10 steps back and rethink what he's doing. :End Transmition: |

If you want to discuss this issue: Use this thread
But donŠt forget: The ideas about moving roid belts are for long-term and IŠm sure that CCP bears in mind, that they donŠt nerf miners and specially noobs.

scan probes can hit a target in 45 seconds u will just have to use covert ops pilots to find prey

Icome4u, if you read my post VERY carefully you'll find it just wasn't about them moving belts, it was also about making changes to the economy, and indeed making changes to the economy is my primary concern.

Edited by: Angus McLean on 03/05/2007 02:13:49 I like the idea personally, its far to easy to right click and warp away from terror. (Or me in the case of pirating ) But there are issues with this.
CCP was accused of making a hard core gamers game, one that was harder for new players to learn. They quickly denied it, yet they keep adding features that make the game harder and harder for the new player..
With that said, do it

Didn't they say you would find the same belts with your onboard scanner than the kind of belts that are actually in the system? And that exploration allows you to find better belts than what the area has (as right now, corpmates keep probing for hidden belts to get better ore) ?
It is not changing the economy, opening the scanner and finding a belt will take a short time, and then you will mine as usual, and miners should have less casualities, increasing the overal efficiency of the miners (because they spend less time defending their ore or building a new barge (because they are not in an already known spot, ever tried to warp fast with a barge?).
The main point is a technical issue. If they do not create the belts and the rats at server startup but only when a belt is scanned and visited, and they don't care about asteroids being depleted and asteroid regrowth (deplete it and another belt spawns in, no need to track growth of roids), it frees ressources to do something else. Many systems have their belts visited and players mining and rating, but there are so many others where a belt isn't visited in a whole day, I think there's really some server ressources to salvage there. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !
