Edited by: Sphalerite on 01/01/2004 13:31:07 Bounty Hunters don't have the same role in EVE as they do in RL and other games. Mechanics and playstyles prevent you from hunting a single bounty across the stars. The closest you can get is getting a group of like minded players togather and rushing one of the places you know rats like to hang out.
As things currently are, you need lots of skills, experience, teamwork and ISK to be anything close to successful as a pirate hunter, however there have become many more options for frigate pilots with the Castor patch recently, so you might actually be able to way up the game through PvP alone, but don't expect to get rich or to live to a ripe old age in your original body.
Another(more common) option is to pick something else... mining, NPC hunting, trading etc, and to make some money, train up some skills, and get to know EVE that way. You have the advantage of being able to learn who you want to fight for before you start fighting this way, but you have to actually mine or something. Much less exciting.
My advice would be to ask as many questions as you can, read everything, and chose your corperation carefully. PvP is the most exciting part of EVE, and hunting pirates is the most chalanging form of PvP. Good luck and welcome to EVE.

Nah, you're either a carebear, pirate, pirate hunter or just a plain ol' PvPer. Or a mix of them. Pirates who gatecamp and run from equal ships are carebears. Pirate hunters who attack pirates against similar odds are pirate hunters/PvPers. PvPers are corps like Evolution. They don't hunt pirates only, but they're not pirates either.

To be a hunter u will need many hi lvl skills... and good tactics.
Its the most risky path in EVE, u will be fighting ships and players that are totally out for PVP. all their skills will be in this area.
u will be subject to smack talk in local chat when u enter a system, u will be called a carebear about 100 times a night by pirates.
U will kill them, and the next day on the forums they will say YOU died.
But i love it, and wouldnt have it any other way.
Contact me ingame, ill be happy to help u out.

Bounty hunting real players is not profitable at all - in fact you would most likely run at a loss after insurance, clone and ship replacement costs, not to mention the high skill required to kill players with bounties on their heads (which are usually there for a reason).
Bounty hunting NPCs in low sec space can be very profitable if you do it with a group of other players.

Actually the truth is that in EVE your either someone who runs away a lot, or your a pirate hunter .

The problem with PvPers is we get mistaken for pirates.. i'm currently in a small mining corp, having lots of fun and i don't want to tarnish their reputation.. in other words there is no way i get to PvP, other than Chaos server.
Last night i got a Scorpion with 8 Phased Muons, J5 warp scramblers and other 1337 EW stuff for a bargain price.. in other words too good not to try out.. Now if i head out into 0.0 and camp a gate, i'm a pirate. There is no such thing as 1on1 duels as we all know, so consensual PvP doesn't exist.
In other words EVE has no sex, there is only rape.

i think u are wrong, as long as u dont shoot newbie scouts etc ;) my experience is that the civilian/carebears/neutrals/miners or whatever u prefer to call them, is somewhat thankfull if u guard gates/systems for them to pass by peacefully ;)

There are a lot of opportunities for PvP outside of being a pirate: Join a regional alliance that fights and get involved in the combat; Join a corp that fights such as Oracle or PIE (I'm sure there are equivalents that take Caldari);Run escort for your corporation and fight gate campers along the way. Seek, and you will find!

You don't necessarily have to be a bounty hunter to hunt pirates. Matter of fact most pirates don't have large bounties if they even have one at all. I head to a pirate system(check pod kills on the map), when I'm not helping out my corp, in a kestrel just to "play" around with them. I get podded often but it's an inexpensive way to practice load outs and tactics. It's alot of fun and contrary to popular believe not all pirates are a$$holes. After a while you'll be experienced enough to really hunt in some "good" ships.
P.S. if you want to partener up on some hunts msg me |

I have to disagree. I've found pirate players that have honor, and will meet you at a location, and stop when sheilds and armor are depleted.
Okay, okay... I'm sure I'll be called a carebear for doing the same thing, but what fun is it when you know you've won? You could fly away knowing you've just took another's hard work at the game getting implants/mods/ships, or whatever but,... that's just bad form.
A pirate should at the very least be a man of his word. If not, you're not a pirate, you're a theiving liar; another job in Eve that many have chosen. =P

I'm with ya on that. I see no reason unless someone is being a real ***** and deserves it. That seems to be the flavor of large pirate corps tho. Not really pirating since it serves no purpose except flexing muscle, nothing gained by it unless someone is trying to do reconassaince(sp?) in a pod. ------------------------------------------------

Mine, get minerals, buy skills, do lame missions, until your skills are competitive. Join a pirate hunting corp. I believe (celestis) led by Darth Solo is where you would want to be.
