I'd advise cruisers for lvl2 agents because of the needed cargo space for some missions. Although most of the lvl2 agent missions still can be done with frigates. (i'm using a punisher right now with 135 cargo - with cargo expanders 240)

The combat heavy agents of higher caliber (lvl 3) give cruisers as kill targets so bring one of your own with some decent kit and know how to fight with it. I have had some close calls with my Rupture on some kill missions. The cruiser rats have been beefed up a little more now.
Courier missions for lvl 3 are a different matter. I would not really go for a cruiser as they are slower. I use a probe with 2 basic expanders. With a frigate skill of lvl 4, I can get just over 500m3 in there and a top speed of over 650m/s. That 500m3 has on many ocasions been enough to take the larger loads that my agent has thrown at me such as those 2000 units of large ammo runs with a decent reward behind it.
Many people tell me to use a cruiser with mwd fitted, however, most of my runs take me over larger systems where the gates can be anywhere up to 90a/u away from the jip. (btw this was pre-castor) and as a result, using an mwd at the previous jump gate to "save time" would result in not enough cap to make it all the way to the next gate or if there was, I would not have enough to use the mwd any way.
The other reason is that on some missions, I would jump right on top of a station in my cruiser that I had been to on a previous mission while passing through the system on that mission. Then the warp drive would engage to take me to the next gate and I would be stuck to the station. This is not really a problem now as you can cancel the warp drive if stuck and do a dock/undock to be free. But it still takes time when you are in a rush on a short timer to get the time bonus. Frigates would not stick as easy to a station and broke free quicker.
Anyway, thats enough rambling for now. I guess you could use a cruiser with a big cargo hold like an omen or osprey to do the courier runs and have nothing but speed and cap mods on it for faster running, but that would mean either refitting the cruier each time or having 2 different ones fitted differently. I would do this but I am too lasy. ------

For a Level 3 Combat Agent (Imperial Amarr Navy) I use a grand total of 3 ships.
The main combat ship that i use is a vexor. Configured right it is a very dealy ship. Not as deadly as a thorax mind you but I still want these missions to be fun.
My large cargo delivery (so far up to 540m3) and light fighting ship is a arbitrator. 1500m3 of drone bay space lets you pack in 6 heavys which eat frigate npcs for breakfast. I usually have a speed package on and very little to no main wepons at all save a single a-3 launcher with defenders. It seems to work really well on the missions up to cruisers. Doesnt fair as well in a cruiser mission but it can still get the job done.
My third ship i use a incursus kitted out for pure speed. 1 mwd and 2 cold gases. This is for light delivery missions. Top speed is just under 5km/s. So it gets the job done extra quick so I can move on to my next bonus prize full of garbage.. er goodies.. yea goodies

Apoc with a couple of expander to swap out the overdrives for the big stuff.
Couple of mwds with loads of cap relays and a bartons, then 3 tachs and a couple of lauchers does me for everything. Well except the little stuff which i use a shuttle.
I used a BB before the patch and a Bestower.

I do all three types of missions with different agents (LVL 2 & 3 right now).
I use a fast frigate, fast cruiser and fast indy. Note the fast.
So, in my case, A Vigil or Slasher, Stabber and Hoarder.
I travel in the Stabber between mission agents (and to my research agent) with a frigate/Indy combo awaiting in each port. Cost a bit to get going but wherever I am, everything is prepared. |

Atron for the fast small missions (Changeing to Vigil soon) can get it up to 700m/s with two ab's 1nm ab's fitted. Its got a nice cap so it doesn't take long to rechage.
Thorax for the kill missions and anything too big for the atron. (going to give the kestral for the kills and a probe for the medium transport missiosn)
And a Bestower for those "OMG! How much soil/garbage/meat do they need moved?!" Goes quite fast with 4 overdrives stuck on it and can handy any cargo mission.

Gotta agree with Mamarto, on all my level 3 mission I used a Maller fitted with:
High 2 x Heavy lasers, 2 x miner2
Med 2 x 10MN MWD and 1 x Peroxide Battery
Low 6 x cargo expanders (courier) or 4 x Skadi (kill missions)
I do Manufacture / Production missions and to date have bagged 12 skill sets and 3 implants
I get 1400m/s at gates and 800m3 in cargo, in all missions (bloody loads) I've only needed a bigger cargo hold once.

Edited by: Dianabolic on 01/01/2004 22:22:04 Omen, with expanders it has the highest cargo of any cruiser. With overdrives it is one of the quickest.
Has a drone bay to swat rats with if u get the odd mining mission.
Gets a laser bonus, so no needing to worry about ammunition.
It is also one of the cheapest cruisers around.

Edited by: Ezra on 01/01/2004 22:34:51 I use three different setups for L3 missions, depending on cargo needed (have all three ships at my mission base)
Vigil 2x 1MN MWD 2x power diag 1x overdrive inj (caprelays would probably be better here, I just didn't have any spares)
Peak speed 12-20 km/s, one burst of both MWDs is enough to reach any gate.
Usual cargo is 135, remove the ODI for 150.
Thorax 2x 100MN AB (i.e. BS AB on a CR) 5x Power Diag Unit I've never had problems running out of cap with this setup, can do 4 km/s. 265 cargo
If I need more cargo, I fit 3 Type-E expanders and two Expanded Cargohold Is, and bring one of the 100MN ABs offline. 631 cargo, topspeed 800 m/s
Then if things get really bad, I have a Beslower with 2 10MN ABs and 4x ODIs. Only have needed it once.
L3 research agents are a different story. I've had to haul 1500 m3 of garbage three times already. But you get plenty of time for research missions.
For combat missions, I fit 5x caprelays, 5x heavy blasters, 8 drones, a med shieldbooster and two hardeners. For "Stop the Thief" missions I use a 100MN AB, shield booster, and hardener. 5x PDUs, 2 250mm rails. (The STT missions have fast rats that hit hard. So it's best to snipe them.) ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

Edited by: Kaaii on 02/01/2004 05:41:48 I too favored a kestel.....
Until i climbed into a caracal..
OMG they are the best agent ship Ive flown.
Combat-You can fit missle launchers (h-50s of course), as well as hardpoint turrents. I use 4 h-50s and a miner 2. One H-50 filled with defenders, warp in at 50km fling heavys, CM or even torps, and sit back and watch the fire works.
Cargo-2 low slots, with just basic xpanders holds 490 (or 590, i can't remember). enough to haul most if not all required cargo. Ive only had to switch to my beast a few times, for mech parts or consumer eletc, or that oh so popular garbage run. Ive yet to hit a mineing mission where i didn't have enough room for the ore, no matter what flavor it is...
Speed- Tops out at around 170km, BUT with 2 10 MWD's i can top over 2400kms. les then 3-4 secs from coming outa warp to jumping. Ive blown right over rats at gates with nothing more then a WTF from them in local....very satisfing Ive noted that one MWD will only push it around 700kms, but 2 go way over 2k...weird, but effective..
And then theres the 200 drone bay. Not alot but a couple of basic miners, a harvey or a few scout drones (or heavy) depending on the mission rounds it out nicely.
Anyway, Caracal is the "One"

i use the dominix with either expanders (lots of cargo space) or with caprelays for fast flying otherwise your cap is drained in 10 secs i use shuttles for small runs (afk missions) i use indy's to transport my stuff from one agent to another.

I generally use a probe to move stuff around. On occassion this doesn't have enough cargo space so i resort to using a thorax.
I use a thorax for combat with 8 heavy drones. This is good enough for all lvl 3 agent missions I have done so far (around 60)

Speed completing the mission is most important to me...
I use a Probe which unmodified is the fastest and most cargo of all race frigs.
I fit a small AB (on auto repeat) and MWD (on manual) to it for approaching gates and stations. This speed combo gives me over 2k m/s speed. I BLAST by most ships approaching gates like they are tied to a stump.
The Probe has the largest cargo hold of any Frig, just less than 350 m3. Fitting expanders to it I can get over 500 m3 and still pass 2k m/s headed to a gate.
Whith this setup i don't have any room for weapons.
For combat missions I use my Scorpion... I don't mind making it un-unfair fight against NPC's

I use an Executioner now instead of the Atron. 1nm MWD and it goes 1000m/s+ (can't remember exactly) Good enough cap on it aswell not to have bothered me during agent missions so far. Using a probe now aswell with a 1nm and its great for those medium size hauling missions, zooms along aswell. The cap is one downer, anything over 55au requires more than one jump.
A Thorax with 2 250mm rails and 2 150mm duals works for the agent missions (not that I get many kill missions, only thing I've faced off against is those two cruisers in the thief mission. Just get in range and keep them at that distance, takes awhile though :/ But at least I've stoped useing drones as missile shields :)

I am using Thorax with 10MN MWD / 100MN ABs. This baby hits 3km/s in one pulse. Also, iteron indy for these rare 600m3+ cargo missions.
Kill missions: I use 8 heavy drones to kill missions (I just warp to pirates at angle, release drones and make loops around the party until pirates die, pretty quickly ).
Cargo Missions: Either strap 5 cargo expanders on (that, depending on what % can get you easily to 600m3) or less and some capacitor/nanos for speed. Heavy cargo missions mandate Iteron Indy which makes about 450m/s on 2 x 10MN ABses, so it is not too bad.
Your Heavy Neutron Blaster II perfectly strikes Serpentis Chief Sentinel, wrecking for 660.4 damage.

I dont have to do anything to it then, apart from the odd expander/injector swap for the one off large cargo missions..
Used to use magnate, and then a omen, finally a thorax (eek gal ship) before switching to apoc.
Maybe missions arn't as exciting but Im on my 5th Drug Lord now and really I cant be bothered anymore..

After the nerf of the MWD, my Dominix is used only for level III kill missions. For cargo transport I'm using the probe. Fast enough with and can carry virtually all cargo with some good expanders. And then I use the Vigil for afk mission, since it's afaik the fastest non-shuttle, afk-ship with od's and skills.
Else I'm using Thorax for all the level II missions (3 250mm assorted rails take care of the kill missions along with 10+ medium drones in the bay, expanders take care of the cargo if needed, and it's fast enough with od's and mwd).
