Edited by: Cpt Fina on 30/04/2007 17:15:28 A way to fight hisec-ganking would be to add "fake" items on market, replicas, as a tradegood. These items would b very cheap and when loaded in cargo (and when cargo-scanned) they would show as zyd, bpos, factionmods and other expensive things that hisec-gankers want to get a hold of. Then if you feel like it, you could tank up a hauler, insure it, load it with alot of "replicas" and head out on a 100 jump autopilot trip thru hisec. It would be worth loosing a few hundred thousand of isks just so you could laugh at the fools that lost a bunch of battleships over cheap replicas.
What do you think about this? I see no big drawback except for the highsecgankers... who doesn't really risk much in their profession.

things to fool the shipscanner module?? a module that works on a chance basis? naah, it would make it even less useful than it is now. And come on, highsec gankers are professionals, they do it day in-day out if they are serious about it. Random people usually don't do it, from my experience, as it takes far too much patience - so it isn't really such a big problem, imho. Or maybe it is in other people's exeperience? From what I gather: I do about 60-100 highsec jumps per day in highsec on my alt and hardly ever so much as see wreckage of noob corp ships in highsec.
So I say leave the highsec gankers alone, fit t2 tanks on your badgers and enjoy the feeling of not being able to get smartbombed by a single ship :D

Don't really see the point of it, apart from causing more confusion about things, plus there would probably be nasty bits of code to do with how the item was viewed, whether it was in hanger, contracts in ships hold etc. Plus in reality the only purpose of replicas really is to scam other people.
If you have something really valuable, then transport it in safety, there are Transport ships which great tanks that you could use, or use normal combat ships if it is small enough, travel in gangs to escort the industrial or cargo.
Highsecgankers loose their ships every time they attack someone, if you stop giving them the gank then they won't get anything except for concord.

In its current form, there is very little do to retaliate on highsec-gankers. They seem to risk very little when doing what they do, Yes, they loose their ships, but only when they are sure about profiting from it. Replicas would be a very viable way too fight back, in a non-offensive way atleast.

I had an idea to take an Iteron with some... falsely labelled cans and act as bait. Trained up an alt for it and sent her a boat to do it. I just haven't put it into practice though, because I never got a definite answer on whether you could scan the innards of a can in someone's hold. Plus, I'm beginning to doubt it'll work now you mentioned the 'definite benefit' factor.

Cans will be found from a scan but you can't find out what's in them. If more people used alts with empty cans and moved the occasional full one, the gankers would find nothing most of the time. Since they couldn't be sure it wasn't just another decoy, they would be less inclined to gank them.

How many times do people have to state that this isn't true for it to sink in: Items in cans are listed on a cargo scan.

ccp tryid to correct it by totally multi overpowering concord. didn't work they found hte way around it...
what i don't get is WHY concord let you fly around with "aimed" guns in there space. just make it so you cannot attack any one not in war or in your corp/alliance in high sec, explaination.
concord do not allow you to have armoured guns rdy to fire in theyre systems.

There is no "safe space" in Eve and highsec ganking requires no fix.

This is very much not true. In fact I could link you to posts on this forum by devs stating very clearly that it is an intended part of the game and that high sec is NOT meant to be completely safe. ------------------

If they're getting killed in high sec, they must have done something horribly stupidly wrong. Hence, they're idiots. I kill people in high sec ***ALL THE TIME*** and every single one of them died because they were being stupid.
If you died in high sec, it's because you are not smart enough to live. Not because there is anything wrong with the rules.

Not AFK'ing will still make you a viable target since it takes very long to initiate warp with a freighter. Escorts won't be able to do much to protect you if the freighter gets caught in a camp. Remote reppers will hardly rep fast enough when 15 Battleships are pounding in a target with baseresist. Heavy hitters might take out 1 gank BS before the freighter pops. The best solution is to avoid the camp, "simply" go around it but these camps seem to be set up at places that you have to pass when travelling between tradehubs.
Can you explain the horrific consequences of this relica-idea or reducing the cargo space and giving freighters a few lowslots? Every other ship (except shuttles) in eve can have modules fitted to perform for a task, why not freighters?

What has that to do with anything? I kill people in lowsec but I don't automatically think they're stupid, just inexperienced or that they thought that the risk vs reward-factor was good enough to get them in that situation.

Did i ever say that the rules of highsec are borked? I'm merely complaining over the lack of tools haulers got to prevent/fight highsec-gankings.

That's a bit like saying "I'm gonna go out with a fat wallet full of subway and coffee cards in my hand, get mugged and laugh at the muggers as they open it in their hideout after getting chased off by the police" Funny, but moot. -- The intelligence of the Earth is constant. By my point of view, Police is just a deterrent not something that doesn't allow ganking. You can gank, but you'll pay the consequences after you have done something illegal... just like real life.
