So ive been using the VNI for ratting against bloods, too slow.
I know the Ishtar is a step up but not by much.
I was told the next one up is a rattlesnake, but is it a viable ratting ship? How long would it take to clear a forsaken hub?
I'm nowhere near getting into a carrier yet so i want something decent to rat in that takes maybe 20 minutes to complete a site.
Someone please help! |

If you specifically want a drone boat then yes, rattlesnake is your best bet. Dominix would be next down the line.
I have had good success using a machariel because I found drone aggro was a pain in the ass. But putting that aside, my first choice would probs. be a rattler. |

Domi would not have that much more DPS that a VNI, well assuming its a shield fit VNI. Just has better tracking, Range and tank in exchange for mobility.

Against bloods a nightmare would be a decent non-drone option. Assuming you have the skills of course. |

Paper dps, yes, you are right.
But application is where the difference in clearing speed lies. Applied dps is significantly higher with the Domi. Especially when using MJD/sentries.
And another thing that is important, at least to me: A simple T2-fit Dominix costs less than 250 M ISK. I like to fly cheap where possible.

Since you "live" in blood raider space, did it ever occur to you to fly a blood raider boat?
Maybe I am the only one but investigating your environment and getting the 47508247586591346815754785690 hints they drop for the really, really, really and really, really slow people "might" be and indicator.

I can clear a Forsaken Hub in ~20 minutes in my VNI. Are you using T2 Praetors? Are your drone skills bad? |

I used both a HAMgu and Rattlesnake against Serpentis Forsaken Hubs. Both moon walked right thru those and Havens with nary a scratch (I frankly had both over-tanked but didn't bother optimizing the fit). The Tengu was more hands on and interesting to fly, and much easier to GTFO if a pack of neuts showed up in local. The Rattler was semi-AFK and boring, but equally effective. Most of the time I didn't even need to MJD away from frigates that got close- just pop out some lights, finish them off, then redeploy the sentries and get back to work on the BS's.
The main reason I favored the Tengu was for escalations- I could easily reconfigure the Tengu to be cloaky/nullified to get there and back, then mobile depot back to my PvE fit to run the site. Since my cargo space was limited, I only grabbed shiny loot and popped the wrecks.

Which drone skills would you recommend adding? |

Are most people ratting in the Vextor Navy Issue? I assumed that was a starting ship and that those people making big money ratting were using a better ship? |

The true glory of the 100MN passive shield VNI is that it offers, hands down, the best ISK:RISK Ratio in the game.
Sure, there are other ships that will make with much danker ticks, but then there's a lot of extra risk you're taking. You can rat up the cost of a new VNI in a couple of hours (in a VNI at that). It would take far longer to rat up the cost of a ratting carrier, even with the higher ISK/hour.
My personal favourite ratting ship was a polarized Vindicator. Sadly, recent AI changes have made that unfeasable :(

There is another option besides changing ships... get a 2nd toon and thus a 2nd VNI! |
