I guess this might have been discussed several times, but so far I've seen none of those threads.
Therefore I'd like to suggest a reduction of that annoying timer you get when you change ships by 10 seconds.
If it can't be done, fine. But it really bothers me and I'm definitely not exploiting it in any way. I'm not talking about undocking/docking timer, mind you.

Is there a reason for the ship timer? Since you can't dock/undock without a timer I assume that it's not for a combat exploit. I'd simply like to be able to access all the same controls/fitting menus for ALL my ships without having to get in and out of them. That's the main reason I even need to swap more than once in the hangar.

Agreed. This timer is simply an arbitrary time sink and is annoying. If you want to make time sinks, thats fine, but make them interesting, not just "OK - now you have to stare at this screen for X seconds before doing anything else".

I know there are probably some technical issues to this, but i believe it's not so much the ship timer that bugs people, but the fact that you can't fit other ships while one is active.
Would be logical(story wise) that you could, since your pod gets removed when you dock(this reads in the timer as something like "wait until we take your poddy out") and yet can fit the active ship.

Displaying a count down timer at least would keep us from hammering the leave ship and make active button over and over.

Although i too really hate scotty the docking manager because of this timer, the main reason i ever have to switch ships quickly is for fitting purposes, so I'd say that being able to open the fittings window for any ship in your hanger would solve the problem nicely :)
And it shouldn't even be to hard to have multiple fittings windows open now that its a floating window instead of a station drop down.... |

I think the only (user) problem with "remote fitting" would be that your skills are only applied to your current ship.
I would absolutely love to see this timer reduced to 5 seconds or so. Removing it completely would possibly open the door for denial of service attacks, but I don't see any harm in cutting it down. A pilot in space shooting guns causes way more server load than a guy in station switching ships for fitting purposes. The standard problem of "need module X on my ship, but it's fitted elsewhere" currently takes about 10 times as long as it would need to without that timer. ______________ Join the Family |

Well, the timer might be in place to hurt macro users or reduce server load. Those are the two reasons I can think of. Yet in both cases this approach seems rather useless to me. People polling the buttons/right click options are probably worse than a shorter timer. Macros don't rely on 100% effectiveness and don't get mad. But players who for example just want to fetch their battleship or hauler with a shuttle/frig get bothered by those annoying 20-25 seconds.
Suggestion: - increase the timer with every swap, starting with the technical minimum +1-2 sec and adding 5 sec for every change.

Reducing the timer would make having fitted ships at a Hangar at a POS less rewarding, you dont have any timers if you change ships at a POS corp hangar since you do it while in space.
The 30 second timer is fine as your not only changing ships but competing with other ships for clear space to undock. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.

You really think that's a valid reason to keep it?
Then keep it for 0.0 and get rid of it in empire. It doesn't make sense there.
