Hi all,
I've been running level 1 missions for weeks now, I'm flighing a Cruiser that's totally overpowered for them but my contact still won't introduce me to any level 2 agents. Am I missing something or do I just have to keep grinding out these missions until something happens?

You can always buy and train the skill "contacts" available from the market. That will help you get better standings and higher mission levels.

Only the starting agents will refer you to another.
Once you start missioning for real and have enough standing with the corp, you will be able to access their higher level agents by just talking to them.
Go to your character sheet/standings, click on the corp you are running with that you think should be giving you lvl2 missions. Check their list of agents. Go to an agent you like the sound off. The info will be pretty clear if the agent is or is not available to you.

Map -> colour stars by -> "My Agents": mouseover the big green blobs and see if you can find a level 2 agent that way.

Use Eve Agents to find yourself some new ones.
Different divisions provide different kind of missions. Mostly variations on courier or kill.

Buy the skill "connections" and train to lvl 3. This will increase your standings and should open the way to a level2 agent.
As stated above opening up the map and searching my agents helps aswell.
Good luck

The other guys have already answered that - you are. You have to go out and find new Agents yourself.
Whenever you talk to your Agent you will see a 'Standing' rating. This goes up when you complete Missions successfully. You can check all your current Standings on your Character sheet.
Doing a Mission not only improves your Agent standing but also your standing with the Agent's Corp. Doing Storyline Missions, the ones where a Storyline Agent contacts you asking you to do something special, increases your Faction standing. For example if you do Missions for a Caldari Navy Agent your Caldari Navy standing goes up, and you will get storyline missions from the Caldari State.
Standing affect lots of things. For example, good standing means stations charge you less for refining and reprocessing. New Agents will only accept you if you have a good enough standing with their Corp or Faction, and that's how you acquire better Agents.
