Just been having a look through the forums while at work and somthing occured to me. People say low sec is a barren, with no-one in it.
Now the reason that no-one is in low sec is because it is pirate infested. If its pirate infested.. its hardly empty is it?
Now I used to do a bit of pewpewing myself (mostly solo but on occassion in small gangs) and I had a fair few targets to choose from be them fellow pirate (not my corpmates ofc) miner, or just someone unlucky enough to be in the system I was in at the time.
So i guess my question is do pirates fight each other? Or do they stay in there "own" systems now? And if they stay at "home" and camp 23/7.. why dont people just move to a low sec system away from teh main pirate hubs?
After all.. low sec is empty.. aint it?

yes plenty of people in low sec. It comes in 2 forms, empty or pirates. Do get some silly person ratting or mining.
Pirates now doing things like: gang 1 gate -> mothership (smartbomb) on opposite.
Makes for fun dying b4 you leave warp

Trust me, it's totally empty, the only people out there are pirates, it's a barren pirate infested waste land where there is absolutely no hope of making an honest profit. For your own good, STAY AWAY.

There's no reason to go to lowsec anymore, except to pirate, or possibly if your agent wants you todeliver something there. The roids are worthless, the second most common roid in empire is worth a whole lot more per m3 than any low sec roid...

Some areas used to be quite populated since there were good agents there, but lately the presence there has dropped radically. I think the new scanner probes are to blame as they allow you to locate mission runners very fast (a corpmate was located within a minute once) on a lucky scan. I've been running missions in low sec since the char was still on trial and now consider moving outas the risk/reward ratio is askew.
Mining currently isn't worth either as sitting in a belt for an extended time makes you a well-liked target for passing pirates. Maybe the new "Find your own belt" idea will change that - but since we've been probed even in very hard to find exploration belts I doubt that will change much.
Sometimes pirates fight each other, sometimes not. I remember two groups that fought each other but when we warped in dropped everything and ganged up on us :)
Is living in low sec worth it? It used to be. Nowadays I am not so sure any more.

If it's "pirate infested" it's not empty.
I live in Placid nowadays and have a small pos in an 0.1 system. It's great, and the local pirates don't worry me. Ocassionally I may lose a cruiser, but for the most part I can dodge them.

Regardless of the sarcastic responses to this post, it IS a lie.
I used to never go into low sec. Now it's the only place I go. It's hard enough to find a fight there and it's safe enough to rat/mine somewhat consistently. There are a number of 0.1 - 0.4 systems that get very little pirate activity and where locals are usually friendly. If you want to make a low sec system your home then go do it. Make friends. Live in and around that system. Will you get into pvp? Yes. Can you avoid it? No. People are allowed to pvp there and so they will. If you want to avoid pvp you're going to have a tough time in the long run.
People who say stay away from 0.1 - 0.4 only do so because they don't know any better. Their only experience with 0.0 - 0.4 has been getting killed (and probably because they didn't know something they needed to know...like game mechanics). ------

I've lived in lowsec for 6 months and never once lost a ship to a pirate. Of all the people I know, one lost a cruiser (while drunk and mining) and one lost a battleship (while without any modules and getting gatecamped) but other than that no encounters have gone badly. It's mostly empty and the occasional pirates are at a disadvantage thanks to sentry guns.

I only get killed in systems with Hemorphite it them.
So for me I think mostly the low sec systems with Hemo in them I am alot more careful now a days.
Or try to be, but for me I see mostly players protecting there uber Hemo systems and I usualy only get attacked by a cruiser.
I still get killed by the cruiser but at least it is honerable.

It is not a lie.
It's a horrible pirate infested wasteland, it's carebear hell, moving out to lowsec is the single dumbest thing you could ever do, it's even worse than wardecing the privateers. It's wall to wall gate camps. It's just horrid.

Being in a low sec system isn't the problem, GETTING to the low sec system with your mission running ship is. Low sec is in general, bad for solo. When they come out with shared rewards for missions, I think more people will be in low sec. Because rather than risk that 1.5 bil or more level-4-pwnsmobile CNR, people will be able to opt for taking a buddy or 2 out in cheaper battleships. Heck, might even have more variety. Think of how fast people could do it with an inty or 2 for the pesky frigs, a salvage destroyer-hauler pair, and a few larger ships (hacs, bc, bs, command ships etc) to kill the big stuff. Missions would run fast. Less time to get probed down, and gankers have to show up with more ships do to it properly. Even if the BS are totally fitted with the PvE tank, those little interceptors I mentioned earlier could do..... things.... to the poor gankers (now gankee's) warp drive.
*disclaimer* I am noob , do not take me seriously unless my post could NOT be thought out and written by a chimp after a 6 pack. ------ "A wise man once told me never to argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level, and then beat you with experience." |

now, i havent read what other people said, cause im too lazy but if you want to make low sec fuller , then id say ccp needs to make low sec more attractive. if you dont, its empty enough at it is, whenever i rat in low sec with a watchful eye nothing has caughten me yet.

After a seriously bloody nose in 0.0 left me a bit gunshy (at least until IAC drops the NBSI policy), I've started running low sec missions.
The same lessons I learned in 0.0 apply to lowsec. If you go ANYPLACE on the map, expect company at some point. End of discussion. Mining in lowsec has got to be extremely nervewracking, and at least one WCS is mandatory, if not two. I've run a dozen missions in lowsec, both deadspace and encounters, and never an issue. I'm sure eventually I'll run into someone dedicated enough to scan me out, but for the time being, flying in systems with modest populations of non-pirates keeps the Yarr's busy enough to look for more opportune prey.
My experience is that low sec is anything but empty. The systems I encounter running missions (which systems I ain't saying because I don't feel like advertising being in a PvE battleship in "come bone my backdoor" land), is that the resident population is about half to a third what you'd see in a high sec system. Gatecamps are rare, I think because your average Yarr doesn't feel like PvEing a turret that repops while he's trying to punk some newb on a gate.
This is my sig, there are many others just like it. With me, my sig is worthless. Without (or with even) my sig, I am worthless... |

hmm well seeing that im one of thoose one eyed, peg legged, blood thirsty pirate i can tell you for some ongodly reason the low sec i occupy has been invaded by russians.
avereging between 4 - 10 max it has gone to 20 - 40 max. every single night so for me the reason i left alliances and 0.0 has finally come to lowsec so maybe it's time to move back into empire .
