Short and simple really, I have fun with it maybe you would too.
1. Go to any belt with lots of GSCs floating around and right click one then choose to add them to your overview.
2. Set up the list so it is sorted alphabetically by name.
3. Check ones that are name Giant Secure Container first by clicking the Look At option when it's selected.
4. When you see one with green lights on it, approach to 1500 meters and right click it choosing Scoop To Cargohold.
5. Repackage it, take whatevers inside and sell the GSC, usually 200k - 300k apiece.
Clears extra lag and make some extra ISK! Have fun! -Sig- Looking for mayhem, killing and theft? We got it! Green Gecko Inc. is recruiting!

There is one fatal flaw in your plan, anchored containers cant be scooped.

But isn't he just explaining to people how to tell the difference between anchored and unanchored cans? 99% will be anchored, of course.

Green lights = unanchored
And I've found them semi-frequently. As anchoring requires the specific skill Snchoring, some people just dont bother. And if you don't have a problem with ore theft, it's a great way to kill time in belts while you're stealing.
Like I said though, it's not for everyone, I just find it entertaining. -Sig- Looking for mayhem, killing and theft? We got it! Green Gecko Inc. is recruiting!

I think GSC's have audit logs, and once an audit log has an entry the container can never any more be repackaged (and sold).

Only Secure Audit Log containers have audit logs (go figger) you can reproc/repackage em, but only if the last entry is more than 3 weeks old.

Well, what I've found is that most people who don't bother anchoring them, don't really bother putting a PW on them. So, it was an easy 4 mil for an hour of popping around belts in an empire system. -Sig- Looking for mayhem, killing and theft? We got it! Green Gecko Inc. is recruiting!

Just curious here, anyone else do this already? Dunno, I was just bored waiting on miners to refill thier cans and bumped into a green lit one, decided to relieve the owner of the worry, having his can out in space all alone. Seemed like a good idea, collected 8-10 from the first system I went through

Edited by: Dread Operative on 02/05/2007 23:42:29 The hassle is not worth my time.
4 mil per hour as you say would be fairly good for any newer players, though.

Yeah, basiclly, I lost my cruiser and didnt quite have the cash to refit one. I had a Badger I left still so I took to ore theft and GSC scooping to make up the extra. All in all I wouldn't call it a long-term plan but it was good for pulling me out of a hole. -Sig- Looking for mayhem, killing and theft? We got it! Green Gecko Inc. is recruiting!

Edited by: Devian 666 on 03/05/2007 03:15:15 I used to grab a few unanchored containers here or there. I even flogged an empty one that we used for target practice at a 0.0 chokepoint. Took it back and tried to repackage it. Hmmm, you need to repair them first for that :( So a method of protecting your container is to damage it so pple make less iskies on it. Generally no one will bother though.
Another way of making iskies if you're that short is shooting down npcs haulers. You only need a frig and a hauler (and to read an appropriate guide so the corp's sentries don't pew pew your frig). Well, it was also fun because there was a corp that I was going to be at war with, and they just happened to switch to GSCs after a few days of me terrorizing thier belts. However they really didn't bother anchoring so, free shots there. Oh well, hope this thread is helpful to someone. -Sig- Looking for mayhem, killing and theft? We got it!
