A friend and I want to fight each other in a friendly battle for both fun and to hone out skills, however as far as I know, EvE doesnt have any sort of dueling system in which the consinquences of the fight dont actually count. Anyway, my friend and I were thinking over how we could do this.
My idea would be that one of just jetcan something insignificant, like a metal scrap or piece of rock and move off to however far would be fair. The other then takes the item activating the 14 minute count down. Once one of use reached a certain point of damage, say only having half the structure left we would both cease to avoid destroying each others ship.
Now im wondering if this would work as neither of us want to go into low sec space and while we are having the war game some pirate comes along and finishes both of us off and to avoid Concord from getting involved we have the what the person takes technically count as theft.
Anyway, does this work or is there a simpler method or did I miss something?

Yes this does work, however have both of you jetcan something 15kms away from one another, then move over to each others cans. Count down and both pick up the opposing players can. This is to prevent having one of you wait for the first person to shoot at the other to be able to gain aggression. (the person who picks up the can cannot shoot the person who dropped the can until that player shoots him first)
another way is to simply be in the same (none npc) corp. Corp members (not NPC corps!) can shoot each other at will. I would say stop at first sign of hull damage because if you are taking hull your tank failed and you are finished anyways. And hull can sometimes go down REAL fast.

I think if you are in the same player corp, you can shoot each other in high sec without Concord intervention.
The jet-can solution you mentioned is also simple and easy.

Player-owned corp. Just to avoid any confusion, your corp's CEO must be a living breathing human being and not an NPC.

Might want to stop at half-armor, especially if you're shield tanking, until you get a feel for stopping your weapons without accidentally destroying your buddy.
My corp tries tactics out on each other all the time. It's nice to be able to do that.
Your third option is to venture out into a 0.0 sector and hope a third party doesn't join the battle.

What about hull tanks?

Agreed. Hull can go super fast. If either of you are missile spamming then perhaps 1/3 armor is better (or half armor if you are a shield tanker). Had a mate lose a ship that way. Called off the fight but was at 30km or so. So many missiles were still in flight that he died even though the other guy stopped shooting so be careful.

Has there been any talk about CCP actually creating a mock battle system? Maybe something like ammo that doesnt actually have a kill factor, basicly trading in your lead bullets for paintball's.

Mock battle system? Never heard of such.
If you really need to just go pew pew all hearts out without sacrificing stuff in main server (Tranquility), go shooty-shoot in the Singularity (SiSi) test server.
Check this thread for info about SiSi. -- V.H.

They released Snowball launchers that fired Snowballs a while back. However now the ammo has melted into dripping water and cannot be used, this because people fitted one snowball launcher and used that to attack other people without doing damage or even getting flagged, when the attacked thought they were under fire they counter-attacked and got concordonked..

Real men hull tanks! Nah.. don't do that. Focus on your races primary tank (Caldari = shield, gallente = armour for instance) and sod the rest, it is never good to try to max both shields and armour. When your primary tank fails run away.

A ôdamage controlö is probably a real good idea if you are doing this. ItÆll give you at least 50% hull resistances which can easily make the difference between surviving and accidentally blowing up. Plus, it also resistances to both shields and armor, so itÆs going to help with your tank some.

While this is a really good idea for most, there are some people out there who cannot access sisi because their account is new enough that it did not make it into the current mirror. However, if you CAN access sisi, I suggest that as the best place for 'dueling'. The thread above tells you where to go to do this, in that system there are various 'beacons' where you can meet opponents and fight. A really good thing about sisi, is that you can blow up all the ships you want, as everything is only 100 isk (other than faction items, those are still hard to come by). There are also a couple 'ffa' beacons which are really good for testing how long your ships tank can last under extreme conditions. -=^=-
