Ive seen alot of people saying there is no fun left in this game, I unfortunately agree.
These people are instantly beeten down as whiners and told to adapt. Now i dont mind adapting as long as the new course of action is fun. Unfortunatley I dont see one. So Im giving all you "PRO-Castor" patch peeps a chance to help us out and tell us what you do for fun.
I have a scorp and a Dom I am part of a small corp and dont want to join a bigger corp/alliance. Te problem is not that I have the best ships in the game as they were alot of fun before the patch.
1. Tried missions and found them incredibly boring.
2. Tried mining and is no better than 1.
3. NPC hunting in Empire space. Slightly better than 1. or 2. but still tedious due to lame cruiser spawns.
4. NPC hunting/mining in 0.0 Space. As you can imagine this is impossible and I either run away or die so is again no fun at all.
5. Trading is no option as the trade goods are not worth trading and i dont want to just haul stuff.
6. Production is boring and unfeesable at the moment due to stupid mineral prices.
Now before the patch I mined crock whilst fighting hardish cruiser spawns. I wasnt making vast amounts of money, but i enjoyed the challange and risk of lossing my ship.
I dont want to mine ultra rare mins. Im not even bothered about making large amounts of money or getting tech 2 bps etc.
I want a challange I can face alone mostly or with a freind for back-up. A challange which gives me a real possibility of death but one which I can survive and enjoy the challange of doing so. I dont expect to get uber mods, just something nice that I can fit to my ship once in a while so when I open a can I go "Ooooh thats nice ill go and fit that now". I used to get this with things like quad liffs or maybe a decent med laser or even just a 24% expander".I used to get these things maybe once a week. I didnt sell them As im not interested in the money.
Problem is this is closed of to me now along with a good many other option and I just feel Im being herded into doing agant missions.
Any suggestions are appreciated. And please none of those flame or you must adapt or you are n00b replies.
I really want to carry on playing this game but im just frustrated/bored with it right now and im not sure how much more I can continue.

Jump in a frigate to kill indies.
Jump in a cruiser to kill cruisers.
Jump in a battleship to remind me why I don't bother fighting in battleships anymore.
Read a good book while doing agent missions.

4) do it in a group smarty .
8) pvp, umm yeah this is indeed an option.
Really I don't think there is no fun left in this game. What I think is this game may not be for you. The game itself is fine and numbers have actually been on the rise again. However the game will not be for everyone it's jsut a fact of life. So yes you are merely whinning and nobody really cares.
Futhermoe you say you want a challange you can face alone, yet you run from the challange of npc's and you havn't even considered pvp. It sounds like you want an easy challange you can pawnage alone and make easy money doing it so that you can have everything you want with no risk. Meaning you don't want to play eve and should go elsewhere and not say it's eve's fault, because it's not the games fault that you don't like it. _______________________________________________________ Get custom sigs and graphics done here Unforgivn Website

Zarthan: Why are you so rude? You actually think you have to be some kind of special person to play this game? How long will this game exist if it is full of people who act and think like you?
There are many players out there that operate in small groups and dont want to be limited to Empire space, Castor completely destroyed the game for those people, I would say they have the right to speak out and be angry.
The game will not exist for long without them. You dont have to believe me, just wait and see.

I do the NPC hunting thing. Why, because of many reasons.
1. Its great when i am alone and I know I wont be harrassed by other players.
2. If some one wants to join, it makes for a team game then
3. I have a nice spot where the spawn is an average of 1 cruiser and 3 frigates -- or -- 5 frigates. Depending on my luck.
4. Some of the loot is great to either i) recycle for extra cash and minerals and ii) give to newbies as they need help.
Also EVE is a better version of MSN - it has many more colours and pretty things to keep me entertained for hours on end -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

What do I do to have fun?
Hmm ... I play SWG. :D I love EVE and always have and will be playing on and off as long as it lives I think but the "fun" factor is in short supply for sure. SWG lacks the depth and epic scale but it makes up for it in short term fun. Wish I could merge the dam games :)

Edited by: Hakera on 02/01/2004 23:13:57 I agree with Jain!
the solution is an npc middle ground in 0.0 where the spawns can be handled by 2-3 BS. The ore should be bistot and crok. Then in the harder systems you get the tough spawns which take say 5-6 BS to handle and have ark and spod. Morph in both IMO
This leaves a zone where smaller groups can operate and leave the bigger more profitable systems to big corps

Wrong. You do need to be special, you need to be a gamer. Eve isn't a game for casual players. You can survive in it as a casual player, but it won't be easy. You want to get the most out of Eve? You need to be part of the select group of people known as "gamers"... . Personally, I wish there were more "gamers" around. The average person is so dull .
A serious gamer can and will survive in Eve, alone or in a small group. What you have experienced does not neccessarily make you right. _______________________________________________________________________

I agree with the author on the points listed as they are, for the most part, the reasons i left the game a few months ago. I'm returning now after hearing about the changes. Eve is a great game but has so much more potential if some things were fine tuned. By reading a lot of the posts regarding this topic some of the same problems exist. Pirates/bounty hunters don't have the tools they need to be effective and justify why a person would want to choose this path (except for pure pleasure). Trade never did have any appeal since it wasn't worth the time vs. the marginal profit you get from it. I know if CCP actually made it a little more rewarding to trade it might help a little bit in keeping the traders and pirates happy. I haven't played enough yet to really see whether this is still the case but has there been any changes that make this game a little less.... mundane? (may not be the right word but best i can conjure up right now )

Contract work for various clients. Several of which have lead me to be KOS, but thats the beauty of being a single person in a galaxy of 50,000 systems and captains who only pilot battelships.

if you get right down to it all mmorpg's get boring. its just that eve gets boring faster because the only goal is isk...all the npcs fight the same, there doesn't seem to be a loot table and absolute random drops get boring when you're not getting wht you want, there is no progression to fighting npc's(ie needing better armor and/or weapns for your ship) the training is for the most part the same speed for everyone and well ... effortless, missons,production,mining...all boring.
i also play EQ, and it has gotten the same way, been there done that. no if i log on i think...wht am i doing, the only goal now is better loot and more xp.
i think there was a lot of potential in EVE but they missed the boat. you should not be able to build BS's with some simple industry skills and money. all npc pirates shouldn't be equal (based on their bounty). some rare pirates should be able to launch countless drones and have smartbombs (having different effects for the different pirates. eg. one may drain your cap, one may just do straight dmg, one may shut your ship down for a small period of time etc.) this way you would need a fleet to take these pirates down, and strategy (ships to transfer cap, ships that boost sensors, ships that repair dmg etc.)
i also think that the path you chose on character creation should have more of an impact on your character. if you choose to be a miner then your miner skills surpass those of others by a percentage. eg. both have mining 3, the miner still mines 15% more ore than the fighter with mining 3. characters created to be fighters do more dmg, EW have better EW skills. and im not talking about the training we do (we can choose to train all EW to 5, or all fighting skills to 5) but one who picks a fighter gets a bonus to fighting skills, one who picks a miner gets a penalty when training in fighting skills.
and large pirate encounters take a variety of different 'class' players. fighters,EW, repair, and whtever lese dev's can think of.
man i could go on but as it is your eyes are probably bugging, so ill stop here
