i find 2 signals. unknown and grav. i use the grav probes and find the signal. but it keeps finding the unknown signal every time. i complete the rat plex but the unknown signal does not disappear. from what ive read and heard the grav signals are hidden belts.

AFAIK unknown is escalation. You should try with the 3 other probes to pin down the unknown signal. --- It have always fallen to a few to sacrifice for the good of many

how about you just leave out the planet you found the unknown signal?

If you know where the rat plex is, ignore the hits you get for it. If there are multiple unknowns in the system, well, do them properly so they despawn. After they are all gone, find the grav.
They are a bit bothersome because you can't exclude them with selecting a different probe type. But cross-hits do happen. You can find a radar with a mag probe too.

Unknowns are frequently easier to find than the non-unknown signals you're usually looking for. Assuming you use the same spread of quest probes all of the time (i.e. dropping them at the same spots) then it's easy. Just pay attention to the signal strength of the unknown hit. It will be the same each and every time. Then when you get one that is different you know you will have hit a different site. If luck is with you, it's your grav site. If it isn't, you've found a second unknown. (Multispectrals only tell you which signals are present, not how many of each type are there) --- Honest officer, the dwarf was on fire when I got here!
