I tried one on my alt and it never works, the module always turns off and my alt knows that it was locked. Is this module broken?

I've not had issues with it, perhaps they broke it in the last patch.
Are you doing anything else other than the targetter? If there's an offensive module your ship will have to do an active lock on the other, but inoffensives like cargo/module scanners shouldn't. ----------------
If you're on IE, pretend this is transparent while you get a browser that supports .png. |

Edited by: Shameless Avenger on 05/05/2007 22:36:35 It worked fine for me in the past. Make sure the module is not on 'manual' mode. |

Dont they only work on the first thing you target, i.e. you gotta click the module then click the person? I guess Ill try this out next Im ingame, if they work on all your targets now that would be real sweet. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

as far as im aware from days of old, the passive targeter simply allows you to begin targeting without the other guy seeing a yellow flashing box to say your targeting.
Once the target is fully targeted however he still locks back.

The way it should work:
Start with a clean targetting board, nothing locked activate passive targetter begin targeting an enemy As long as you do not use a module that would classify as a hostile act in empire he will not see your lock.
note that this only works on 1 target any others will see you.

I was messing with passive targeters about 2 weeks ago and they work fine. They just have a very presise method of employment as stated above. |

Wait a second, ships start autolocking back once another ship has completed its locking. I've even tried it computer next to computer and it starts targeting back once the first targeting finished. I also have used passive targeters that have worked.

Works fine for me, but like said you click the PT then you click your target on screen or in overview, using the lock icon or lock on menu will _NOT_ work.
PT can only stealth lock one person at a time, thus you cannot already have a target locked to use it.
Locking stealth works, scanning the ship doesn't show any notice on the targets screen either.
Help me help you. |

I think they are broken atm:
1 - click on passive targeter module 2 - ctrl + click on target 3 - click on ship scanner 4 - I'm targeted back from +50% of them
So it seems that passive targeter does not work as it should or ship scanner is acting as semi hostile module.
Another thing: Ship scanning shows me false readings: modules of scanned ships are doubled sometimes --

works ok up to a point, i notice 1 in about 20 lock me back so maybe a bug in there somewhere, or maybe its not intended to work 100% of the time.

Doesn't ctrl + click on target perform a normal lock and hence not use the PT? --

Because you are doing it wrong. DO NOT control click the target, this will make u lock normally. 1, click passive targeter 2, left click target.
thats all u need to do.

Ty for the info. Anyway it's still a bug, because ctrl + click should be shortcut for targeting. --

It is for targetting normally. Its no bug, if you click other moduals then target using the ctrl+click lock they wont activate either.

Works great on nano types that warp to stations and sit at range trying to bait you. Target using passive targeter and fire sniping BS, if it doesn't kill them it scares the cr*p out of them

You never, ever know when someone is in the process of targeting you. The yellow box means they already have you targeted.
