Is everyone still using TeamSpeak 2 2.0.32.60?
Good.
I'm hoping you guys can help me with this. I'm at university and the university firewall blocks TS, so even with all the right login details, it never gets a connection, and this is stopping me playing in group ops alot of the time.
However, Ventrilo works fine.
Several people i've talked to have said that it's less to do with the program, more to do with the ports it is using, but this is way beyond my knowledge, so can someone give me a clear and simple way of tweaking TS so it uses the same port as Vent or something? Or anything that you think might help?
Thanks.

And which ports would those be?
And i'm 99.9% certain they will say no. Stuff like 'those ports are closed for a reason', 'you don't need those ports to do your coursework' and 'wtf is a port? Seriously I don't know anything about computers, they just grabbed me off the street and gave me this job which is probably why your connection is always dropping and we're incompetent'.
I need a solution that I can effect without leaving my computer.

You are hosed, unless you can talk the TS server admin into putting the server on a port you can reach through the firewall. Possible solution, find out if there is a proxy server on campus and setup your PC to use that instead of the firewall as a gateway to the Internet. Most likely the same response, so don't ask an IT guy. . . blackmail them! Find dirt on one of them and make them fix it.

Most respectable IT departments have someone that sits around gaming most of the day, find them and ask them for advice, best bet is gonna be running through a socks proxy somewhere. Sig removed as it lacks EVE-related content. Mail [email protected] if you have questions. -Hango

Ok i'm registered on the TS forums, but I didn't understand a single thing I read in there.
Is there a simple answer I can get on the whole port thing? If TS uses a specific port, I can take that to the admins and ask them to unblock it.

Is a TS server IP, if I'm not much mistaken, the bit after the colon (8767) refers to the port number.
And if I recall correctly, this is the default port that TS uses.

Hm. When I was in Repo their IP didn't end like that. If someone gave me a list of TS servers I could see if some of them are blocked and some aren't. If the ports do vary from server to server then, maybe they aren't all blocked.

Teamspeak requires both the UDP and TCP ports to be forwarded for your server. Server IPs vary although I think the standard one is 8767.
If you find the relevant port for your server you can then ask the IT admins to forward that port.
You can of course look into various methods of bypassing the proxy, tunneling etc, bare in mind this may breach your Terms of Service, its much easier and more polite to ask the admin guys, I'm sure they've had similar requests in the past. ---

The TeamSpeak client uses RANDOM ports from the whole 1024-65535 range for source port and sends to port 8767 (UDP) unless indicated otherwise.
The TeamSpeak Client doesn't usually require any configuration of routers or firewalls. Do NOT setup your router to do port-forwarding or similar, as this is only needed when running the server.
That is from the Teamspeak FAQ. Now, I kinow a lot about server side, but not much about clientside.
Goto the TS forums and ask. ________________________________ I can't stand lazy forum posters. They should be banned. |

You gotta spell it out for me.
So I go to my admins, and ask them if they can unblock the TCP and UDP somethings for the port number which is the last 4 numbers of the server IP?
I don't even know why i'm bothering really, i'm only here another 11 days and i'm living off campus next year. But this is really annoying me.

Take a look at www.your-freedom.net
Works for me and i'm in the same situation as yourself. I'm not sure how well the basic connection works with TS as i pay for a faster connection but it's worth a go.

K i've tried that, it all went swimmingly until I tried to 'Start Connection', at which point it just says:
Quote: Connection terminated. Server says:
requested by the server (Authentication failed), will try to reconnect in 30 seconds.
And it never connects. Great.

I may be wrong but that looks to me that you are connecting ok... but the details you are putting in are wrong.(username, password, registered, anonymous). When you can not connect to a server it says... "Server Offline" or something...

Did you go through the setup wizard and get your proxy details put in correctly?
Plus i can't connect to a server when it's address is put at ems04.blah.blah i have to type in the IP as follows.
91.121.13.62;91.121.13.62
Not sure why it needs a semi-colon and the IP repeated but it doesnt work unless i do it like that. Here's a few server IPs for you to try:
ems05: 91.121.13.63 ems03: 87.98.241.26 ems04: 91.121.13.62 ems02: 193.164.133.61
Hope this helps,
Elin
