After a long layoff I returned to EVE (2 years) to find I have a reasonable amount of isk, 4.5m sps scattered to the winds a Ferox and a Harpy. The feorx was the typical passive tank missile boat and gotta say it sucks, sure ya can tank almost anything but the heavy missiles do crap dam to small targets ( I know train skills etc but I really dont see the dam ever being impressive ). So I tried light missiles in assault launchers...much better (still crap tho), and I can get outranged by some stuff. Next try I put 5 250 rails and 2 150s for the close stuff, mids 3 LSE Invun mod, active em shield hardener and a smaill Gisti SB.Lows 4 PDS2s. Got a passive shield with 14000 or so hpds and a 680s recharge rate, about 50hp/sec max passive regenwit another 30 from the gisti to make 80, training rigs atm. Waiting for tonight to see how that goes and if i can run the guns, small gisti...all the mods together indefinatly. Just looking for advice and opinions on my last set up (all named ot T2 stuff for the most part).

will a Drake and some trained missile skills make my heavys hit for more than 25/40 pts against frigs? cause even with low cost mods its not a question of the ferox being blown up the passive tanks too good, just the age it takes for the heavys to kill frigs/drones. Am using the ferox cause that what I had when i logged back in after 2 years outta the game, well a Ferox Harpy Worm and a 30 or so other assorted cruisers frigs, oh and about 3000 bits of crap item strewn over all high sec space lol

Actually, with good skills, heavies damage small ships nicely, with the exception of interceptors. As you said, it's just a matter of skills. And if you're still worried about small targets (rats), grab a few drones and T2 precision missiles. :)
Don't worry, heavy missiles are still very good.

You, my friend, sound mightily confused.
For starters, a Ferox cannot fit 5 250mm rails and 2 150mm's - that's 7 guns in 5 turret slots.
Also, the Missile skill that improves your explosion radius (which matters when hitting small things) requires you to train Missile Launcher operation to level 5. Your current skills do indeed do nothing to help your missile damage output against small targets.
As for the Ferox, its star has passed; when CCP released the Drake, the Ferox fell into the shadowy niche of low damage, high range gate sniping with rails. It is one of the weakest battlecruisers around. Sell your Ferox, buy a Drake. You will love this ship to pieces.
7 heavy launchers, 1 tractor beam 1 target painter, passive tank missile damage mods 5 light drones <--- do not forget them!
All your NPC hunting problems will dissolve into their subatomic particles.
For PvP, find a gang or take your Harpy (or better yet, train for a non-Caldari ship).

Have to agree, the shiny (symmetrical) Drake is a far more enjoyable ship to fly than the aging Ferox. Switch over and you'll be able to run even (easier) level 4 missions without too much difficulty.
You should find a kinetic heavy-missile Drake to be a useful PVP setup too. It suffers the standard Caldari lack of speed (and with a shield tank you'll need someone else to do your tackling) but it's a whole lot better than the Ferox. You should be able to train up all your missile skills and BC to a good level in reasonable time. ------------------------------------------------

Your formating is very difficult to read, but.
I'll mirror everyone else with a "get a drake". Ferox's only purpose now is to be used as anti-support sniper in fleet\gang combat. Other than that, it has little use. Though it's very good at that job. -------------

Funny enough the Harpy does lv 3 missions just as good as the Ferox if you are smart... The Ferox has its merits from being able to passive tank with ease while having heavy launchers chew rats apart - The Drake does the job much better so the Ferox is back to being a poor man's Drake or a niche ship for PvP
The ferox can be made work quite well with 200mm railguns but you definately need 2 heavy launchers to improve the damage - and then you'll pretty much be out of powergrid to mount any form of nice tank...
That does make the ferox a fine experimental platform for EW and weird setups - Something I haven't had any time to test except for a raven with insurance running out... - I'm a nice guy!! and OMG I love Team Tuxford for the speedbalancing... |

Anything you can do in a ferox or drake, I can do better in a Rook.
BCs are slow cumbersome death traps, you best be able to kill all those frigates coming at you. For the first scrambler will be the end of you.
I did all my level 3s in a manticore, except a few which I used my ROOK. For level 4s, the ROOK works fine for all but the BSes, it kills them, just takes a long time.
Bigger aint better, just slower

Hmm I have no experience with the Drake, I gave up on missiles on other ships than a Raven.
Anyway, if you want to keep the ferox:
1. Train Guided Missile Precision to 4, it will make you hit small things better. 2. Train Drone Interfacing to 4 and drones/scout drone op. Use 5 small drones, they will shred frigs while you blow up bigger rats.
From personal experience, a rail ferox has bette DPS than HM ferox while mounting almost the same tank.

Until the Ferox gets its 6th turret hardpoint, it will be outclassed by every other BC. With a 6th turret, it will then be a nice sniping BC.

I hope you're joking. Ferox is the #1 T1-Disposable-Anti-Support-Fleet-Sniper, out there. Paired with a Target painter to help increase damage against smaller targets allows it to easily clear out support within 150~ km. To say it's not a nice sniping BC, is absurd.
e; also it eats drones. -------------
