What Video Games Taught Me
EVE taught me that: For every decent person you meet, there are 100 a--holes. If you're not going to hide, you'd better be d--ned good at running. Everything is worth something to the right buyer. Everyone has their price. Especially if said price is on their head. Always check the fine print before you sign. The more languages you speak, the better. Someone always has more firepower than you. Someone always has more friends than you. Not every problem can be solved by throwing money at it. Those that can usually require quite a bit of money. No matter how widely hated you are, someone, somewhere, will sympathize with you. Creativity is magic. Sometimes, running away really is the best option. |

Quote:For every decent person you meet, there are 100 a--holes.
I've found that the vast majority of Eve players are relatively nice people, at least by internet standards. Most people don't want to be ***holes nor do they think of themselves as such, they'll shoot you if they can but that's the rules of the game.

I'm a stupid person I'm bad at math Spreadsheets look like chinese to me, but oddly the nerd in me is fascinated by them Mittani is a space Diva Nullsec isn't so scary, and probably a bit safer than low sec space even. I like space games There are some pretty cool pirates in low sec space You can try to go it solo, but it ain't gonna be easy and frankly is probably damn near impossible If you have a giant group of people on some forum somewhere you can build a Nullsec power pretty fast All sandbox have themepark elements, and all themeparks have some sandbox Gaming can help change the world a little at a time (hello Discovery), and teach people new things Eve takes time to learn, and not all of us are great at the game EVE is one of the last bastions of highly successful niche mmo's I like spaceships Scamming is kinda meh, but you can make isk doing it depending on how creative you are The prison analogy of EVE seems somewhat true It's good to specialize in something If you have a lot of money to blow you can probably advance pretty fast in EVE

I had learnt the following:
1. Loss is inevitable. Make peace with the fact and be prepared to face it. 2. Trust must be earned. 3. I am not the only person who desires X. 4. There is no shame in bailing out and folding it. 5. Risk is a constant. Manage it. 6. Make better snap judgement. 7. Experience required to make better snap judgement. 8. Only way to gain experience is by doing the thing. 9. Doing the thing while inexperience will result in much loss. 10. Take the loss and gain the experience. 11. Loss is not bad. 12. Not learning from loss is bad. 13. I freaking love junkyard ships.
A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

What EVE taught me:
- Theres no need to worry. It's just a game - amazing how that has changed my attitude to RL too
- If you want something done, do it.
- Doing things with other people is better than doing them alone
- Minnesota is awesome
What the forum has taught me:
- My opinion doesn't invalidate the right of someone else to have a different one
- Different opinions are what makes things interesting, especially when they are polar opposite
- Trying to change anyone's view on something is difficult. You can only change your own, but that's pretty rare too
Edit: If you don't agree with that, you're an a**hole and you're wrong. |

What eve taught me:
The people that can make the spreadsheets have an advantage over those that cannot Repetitive strain injury (especially using PI) was a mandatory requirement from the makers. I am crap at maths Null sec isn't at all scary and can actually be quite dull. People move on Alliances and corps change for the better and for worse. Just write lots of text and it will hide the fact that not much is really added/new. Even though i've bitter vet syndrome, I am still addicted to this game I am lousy at solo PVP (but I still try) Dont rely on others to do anything. The forums have more toxic people than i actually come across in game.

IMHO there are two decent to a-hole quotas in EVE and probably all-around:
Nice/helpful people that are visible to the public and speak up compared to loud salt-harvesting show-ups. That is the one you can easily count and what forms your first impression of EVE.
And then there are all the decent low profile players that stick to their own stuff and help you once they got to know/trust you compared to all the secretly scheming self-declared Supreme Evil Beings. This second quota is one of the hard to measure variables that make EVE so darn interesting to play. |

How could you dare to say this! Every ISK I make bolsters my personality. I am those ISK. Losing any of this is like losing a part of me! And because I am so great everyone wants to steal from me and wants to ruin my game! And they don't even know how to play this game properly. If EVE tought me anything then that most people are damn wrong about everything all the time.

What Eve taught me:
1. I am way too optimistic about human nature. 2. I can become committed to something to the point of being irrational. 3. Never ever believe a thing CCP promises. 4. I will never understand what motivates some players. 5. Given a steady effort you can accumulate a fair amount of isks doing even the simplest things. 6. Eve isn't dying. 7. I like space games more than elves and fantasy settings even if the space game isn't my idea of perfect. 8. Knowing how to use Excel is useful for a lot of what you can do in Eve. 9. There is no "right" way to play Eve. 10. Someone is always going to do something "better" than you but if you keep at it you will be doing some things better than some other folks. 11. I like Iceland and especially the Nonni's lamb sub sandwich but the Bill Clinton "world's best hot dog" isn't. 12. When it all is boiled down to its essence the person with the most Trit wins. 13. There is fun t be had among the sociapathy that is Eve id you don't take it personally. 14. There will never be a butter vet reward, see item 3. Also that Anniversary mystery code will remain a mystery, again see item 3. 15. Greed isn't so good. 16. I really do understand the bitter vet as I am now clearly one of them. 17. The best parts of Even come from being part of a community or group even is some folks don't like that community or group. 18. High sec isn't safe, low sec isn't instant death, null is maybe the easiest place in Eve for the most part. 19. War decs can be survived and seem more scary than they actually should be. 20. The whole point of Eve is you are an immortal pod pilot in a "spaceship" so walking in station although seems like it might be fun is counter the be basic premise of Eve. 21. Eve will NEVER be as popular as other games and it shouldn't matter to the players. 22. I will never stop learning things in Eve.

What EvE taught me:
- What ever you do, what ever playstyle you have, what ever CCP does, there will be always someone whining about it in the forums.
- If you're losing your temper because of a lost ship, you should recalibrate your reality sensors or level them up to V.
- I wouldn't kiss my mother with that mouth (regarding to swearing in local by the usual suspects).
- There are people on this planet who whine about 15 bucks a month for EvE, but the same dudes are most possibly spending 8 bucks for Starbucks sludge, every day, without even thinking about it.
- Dark Lager and Single Malt go very good with EvE.
- "You call that a drama?, dude, please, I play EvE."
- You know you play too much EvE when you have a ringtone like this
- Once I was a hauler like you, but then I took a Cata to the knee.n++
- Not only Permaband can make good music
Breakfast is the most important drink of the day.

- D-bags are in every profession in EvE. Awesome people are also in every profession in EvE.
- Things will never be "perfect" in the game because there are other players.
- You can't get mad about losing a ship... if you do you'll turn into a basket case.
- Some pods are basket cases.
