From much looking at the stats I have come to belive
Moros - Best against smaller ships with drones, and against other capital ships if blasters are fitted.
Phenonix - Best in POS seiges, good against cap ships with poorly balanced tank (can exploit low resists), good against small ships if other ships provide webbing, target painting.
Revelation - Unlimited ammo (useful for POS seiges and extended operations?), best tank.
Nalfagar - Best at dying.
Enlighten me of any misconceptions I may have.

naglfars are actually very good at pos sieging and against other dreads, so thank you come again.

Edited by: Jackal79 on 08/05/2007 02:28:11 I'm sure they are but from what I've heard and from the stats I bet the other 3 dreads do everything the nalfgar does good even better.
Unless you can explicitly state something that nalfgar is more suited to than the other 3 dreads besides giving your enemy a really nice killmail?

Naglfar doesn't tank as well this is true, however it's very useful in cap ship fights as it can pick it's dmg.
It's also good in pos siege for that same reason. The main problem with the phoenix is that with a shield tank lag with the booster running means you can cap out in a very quick hurry.

Interesting. So you would say the nalfgar/pheonix have more potential in cap ship fights than the moros even with the moros's blasters and drones? Thats alot of DPS.

yes, but the nag can create alot of damage very quickly, over time the Moros will achieve more, but.....Nag can put up a larger alpha and short duration DPS.
Which, in cap fights counts quite abit when your talking dreads.
Plus in cap v. cap....where your dreads are trying to take out their supcaps/carriers, a Moros's drones will get picked off quickly, gimping its DPS. Where as a Nag is sitting back just pouring on the damage, Capital AC's with Dread 4 have disgusting RoF.
Sure they're not tanked as hard, but in cap v cap you have carriers providing logistics (if you know its going to come down to your capitals fighting, you MIGHT not have a carrier nearby thats fitted for repping, but most can swap out and provide support on the dreads) and in POS sieges the Nags high RoF and high alpha let it put more damage on the tower before going down OR re target and insta pop those annoying BS's.
Its not as long lasting but it has the highest DPS after the Moros, and 2/3's of the Moros's DPS is actually killable.
Imagine being in that Moros and losing all those drones?
And as far as I have seen Cap Blasters don't really cut it compared to the others.
Just a few things I have seen.

Capital blasters have poor range and aren't useful for anything but offline towers IMO.
Naglfar has next best damage, can pick its damage, and has an insane alpha, and has a better tank than most give it credit for once you get some decent hardeners. I'd trust the tank of a naglfar over a pheonix most days.

Phoenix has the best alpha but one of the most meh tanks, revalation is a tanking beast, moros has the most dps,and the nag has very good alpha and dps. __________________________________________ Yes it is great being amarr. I am minmatar, fly amarr, use gellente drones and am in caldari space. |

Actually, the Phoenix has the highest DPS tankable which is what you need when you get primaried, but it will run out of cap after a while. Revelation can perma tank the most DPS though.

for pos i agree that dmg choice can be nice, for cap don't think so as these ships are heavily tanked and generally (maybe naglfar only exception) they have balanced res...
in a real fight there is also not much time (if not the chance) to experiment wih dmg type... a thing that should be done for every target
about the naglfar i agree with the OP, is the best to get killed due to its weal tank/low dps

Edited by: Verlaine Glariant on 08/12/2007 03:44:11 Currently Phoenix wields the most powerful DPS of all available Dreadnoughts. Phoenix is the best ship at shooting big mobile targets (other capital ships, slow battleship) because you won't have tracking issues at all when you are using missiles (as long as missiles have enough flight time). It is also the best multi-purpose dreadnought due to its well balanced tank/dps.
With a decent tank, rigs, modules and skills, Phoenix will tank almost any DPS as long as you have the proper logistics support.
Please note that when in Siege Mode you'll have to rely on your on-board tanking, because external aid is disrupted by the field that the Siege Module is generating.

the phoenix can do all that the above poster claimed, but not at the same time, and isnt the best suited for laggy environs.
the revelation has the best mix of dps and tank TBH.

tbo if you think phoenix is the highest dps you need to do some testing. On stationary targets when you take reloading into account revelation actually has highest dps over time. as well blaster moros is higher dps then phoenix.
the thing that sets the phoenix apart is the ability to do 100% of its dmg in any type it chooses, but ammo consumption makes it hard to store enough of each dmg type.
not to mention in a massive capital on capital fight where dreads are going pop in 30 secs to a minute other dreads will get far more volleys on target due to the insanely slow missile flight time. Maybe when ccp bring capital missiles to provide an alternative to the torps we can talk about using the phoenix but until then it isnt the shining start that some would make it.
if you are killing bs or under moros and phoenix are the only ones that can do it reliably although you have to completely gimp the fittings on a phoenix to do it. and against posses they all work great but the no ammo consumption is very useful on revelation and dps is very high in extended fights.

you should not care what dread you have, what you should care about is the battleship 5 you want. Because that controls what battleship you like to fly. I like my geddon/abaddon so i would want a revelation.
if i liked domi's and mega's i would get a moros
if i liked the maelstrom and phoon i would get the nalfagar
if i was a mission farmer i would get a phoenix (ok cheap shot) -------------

from my toying about on EFT (please dont kill me) i have come up with some interesting fittings:
moros shield tank - 6.6k dps (including drones) and a tank of 5k dps - but will struggle against a large pos and will be sitting on the shields but will rip another dread a new one
revelation (frankly the best dread) - 5k dps and a tank of 5k dps - but it does the damage at a range that can hit a pos LOL
naglfar - 4.2k dps and a 3.8k dps tank - to be honest i could barely fit this ship, would like to see a good fit for it
phoenix - 1.9k dps 7.2k dps tank! - now ok it sucks for damage (i got it to just under 4k dps using a full rack of estamel's BC) but is very good at killing BS because it can hit them lol and also its worth mentioning that the 7.2k dps tank is only sustainable, for 4 minutes!!! it can tank 18.2k dps which is frankly huge.
nag is the underdog here, and i really feel sorry for it, it requires the most skills to fly by far and then even though it has the 4th gun, it counts for nothing frankly, would like to see some ideas on that one personally

Moros - Versatility(Can go shield, can go armor, can pop all kinds of ships) Revelations - Armor tank, and no need for reload(Huge impact under huge lag tbh) Naglfar - Highest damage Phoenix - Ability to with aid instapop battleships, HUGE tank, great range.
Tbh, the incentive to crosstrain for a dread or carrier is none. Stick with the race that gets you there first.

Less EFT, more in game.
Nag can fit a perma shield tank (needs cpu implant afaik.) and deal significant DPS.

the nag does shockingly bad damage, its outdamage by the rev and the moros easily and the phoenix frankly does no damage anyways, which kinda negates the point of the nag completely

When it comes to sieging towers the differences are negligible. I guess the Rev has a nice advantage as it uses no ammo which means more room for stront. Apart from that you're rooted to the spot for 10 minutes at a time and shooting towers isn't exactly a pwnsetup dps contest. The tower will pop/reinforce when its ready and one ship setup isn't going to make much difference.
Theres a clear winner when it comes to everything other than sieging towers though.
Moros all the way.

1. Revelation does not have the "best tank." Revelation and Moros have exactly the same tank. Revelation has +1 low slot yes, but nobody uses all eight low slots to tank. You need to fit cap recharge mods, and the Revelation simply switches a Cap Recharger for a Cap Power Relay.
2. Revelation is the best dreadnaught. First off it doesn't have to reload, which is a huge DPS boost when shooting pos, and an even bigger one if there's a lot of lag. (no 30-sec module lag to reload.) It also does more raw DPS than the Moros at ranges of 60km or greater, the limit of sentry drone range.
The biggest issue with the Moros is for some weird reason 75% of all the deathstar-fitted control towers in the game are Minmatar/Domination control towers, which have high EM resist.

Whats better
5* caprecharger II 1* caprelay II
or
4* caprecharger II 2* caprelay II
for pure caprecharge/tank. _________________________________________________ Breetime

the revalation does pretty good damage compared to a blaster moros with a shield tank and 4 mag stabs anyways, i mean with the moros 1000 of the 6600 dps i mentioned come from good old ogre II, the main problem with it being that it has a range of about 25km with falloff and 50% hits isnt what you want when your shooting a pos, or anything for that matter...
