I have become bored of missions and mining so I now fancy a bit o' yarrr!
I can use T2 Heavy drones and T2 medium guns, so....
Would you recommend a Thorax or Vexor for solo piracy in low-sec (not 0.0)

With T2 heavy drones if you can fly em an Ishtar or an Eos...

True, but I would like to keep my (probably inevitable) losses low. I would be looking to buy and fit ship for < 10M(ish) ISK

Then you wont be using T2 guns or T2 drones.
I guess your Gallente spec'd? I reccomend brutix or Myridom

Start with rax to get a feel of piracy , then vexor to use your drone skills better. Then go for the myrm and see what you can catch with it.

Both the vexor and rax are great pirate ships i prefer the vexor.I like it just because of the drones and maybe some ecm and nos makes for a nasty lil ship.

Should I fit a multispec ECM or go for a burst unit?
I was thinking of keeping range with the vexor (18km etc) so I wouldn't use Nos. Is that a bad idea?

neither. ecm multispec will be lucky to get 1 cycle and ecm bursts without damps are kinda naff.
i'd recommend either a vexor or thorax. both work very well with a 1600 or 800 plate especially. vexor is only good tho if u have good drone skills.

You can easily fit a vexor with T2 drones for 10 mil, heck even less than 10 mil if it has to be.

3x light t2 blasters with null, 2x light nos
--
target painter + mwd + warp disruptor
--
1600mm plate + active EXP + passive t2 energized kin and thermal
2x ogres II + 2x valks II + 1x hobgoblin I
Just bump like crazy and try and stay in small nos range, damage is very good with TP but if target gets wise and knows what you lack - nossing ability and good tackling ability, he might get away or kill you.
