Maybe its just me, but piracy can be all but wiped out in 5 simple words; DON'T ****ING PAY TEH RANSOMS. Self destructing your ship also ensures that they make absolutely no profit off you.
Now if everyone did these two things (self destruct and no payouts), piracy would die out for good. And who wouldn't enjoy that, hmmm?\

You're welcome.

Edited by: Surfin''s PlunderBunny on 09/05/2007 17:40:41 That's why I don't ransom anymore... I just pop and pod
I make money off the loot! If it takes you longer than 120 seconds to pop a ship you are either (1) picking the wrong targets, or (2) not training up the right skills.
Oh, and because of people doing this they've lost ships with modules totalling over 100M isk when I would've ransomed for 10 or 20M... their loss either way

I'm presuming this is flamebait but in case it's not.
Probably about 10% of pirates if not less actually do it for the money. the rest like me do it for the fun.
Also eve would be a very boring place if there were no pirates and many carebears would rather have us here.

Ransom is a nicety pirates offer, its a chance for you to cut your losses save your ship and mods, and perhaps your pod. If you dont take the ransom then you lose your ship because most of the time you will die before your self destruct completes.
I suggest paying and keeping your ship, everyone wins that way or at least you lose less.

You should feel lucky if i ransom you, that means you get a chance to keep your ship. If you're being a smart-ass Yapping your mouth in local or namedropping, dont expect that privilege. Trust me, we can and will blow your ship up withing the 2 minutes self destruct takes.

Generally people who would pay had more money in their modules than you would make from ransoming. And most people just won't pay. But there is definitely a living in loot. ----

I strongly disagree with this comment. Most people I've ransomed and received cash from are noobs, who drop absolutely nothing of value. You just have to ransom for a reasonable amount.
That said, I pop WAY more people than I ransom. Its simply more fun, and a bit safer. ----

Yeah.. It CAN get a bit boring though when there is like 20 piratecorps with 20 online players each camping one gate in a lowsec bordering to highsec system.. But heck otherwise it wouldn't be as fun..
In addition pirates has made me go PvP/E instead of just PvE as I used to.. Carebearing days over :)

Depends really. There's a point in Eve when you stop worrying that your modules cost more than your ship. When you get to those people, then yeah, blow them up and hope that the shiny stuff doesn't pop.
Younger players on the other hand are still in the position where their hulls are the most expensive things that they own. For those people, ransoming will net you more ISK.
There's also a middle line where people have modules and so on worth more than the ransom but where it's quite possible that half of the mods will asplode, leaving you with less than if you'd ransomed. So they lose more but you gain less.
Of course the real challenge is working out when to ransom which people for how much.
