I've been told a few horror stories of stuff that's changed in the UK in the last 4 years. Pretty much the main things I've got are..
1. Public smoking ban. What's what about? Where's it extend to? 2. More stuff you can't do while driving. Let's see... I got told it's an offence to not have both hands on the wheel now? And that you can't even change radio stations while driving. Hands free phones are banned too?
Are there any other little laws that have changed that might trip me up? __ I really don't need BoB propaganda here any more. Let's embrace yiffy. |

1. from the 1st of July smoking is banned in any enclosed public place. 2. the use of mobile phone has been banned. you get fined and points on your license, but hands free set can be used. Also under this law you can be prosecuted for eating/drinking etc at the wheel, if the police deem you not in full control they can prosecute.

Edited by: nim TsuNim on 10/05/2007 07:48:47 It is now an offence to protest within an exclusion zone of the Houses of Parliament without prior written permission from the police. This zone extends about a mile I think. Protests include wearing badges, T shirts etc. with political protest material on them.

Reading names from war memorials out loud and carrying cakes with the word "peace" on are also classed as acts of protest under the law.
The law was made specifically to counter the activities of Brian Haw and his permanent anti-war demonstration. However, because his camp dates from before the time the law came into force, Mr Haw is now the only person legally allowed to make political protest within a mile of parliament without prior permission

Brian Haw should get a bloody job!!! People like me go to work each day so we can pay for the likes of him to sit on his arse outside Parliament for 5 years. He's a waste of taxpayers money and he's cost a small fortune in court cases.

Sad but ture. Neds and thier usual drink Cider are more common than ever. It's kl to have a Sat Nav but just dont leave it on display when you leave you car or the holder on display. Also watch out for the Clamp police. In the main cities don't dare leave you car parked in the wrong place. It will get clamped and or towed away in about 30 seconds. Its ridiculous. Don't get me wrong the UK is imo the best country in the world. I love it despite all its downfalls.

The only thing to watch out for are the chavs in Liverpool stealing stuff
Did anyone else see that joke programme on C4 last night? World's Greatest Joke or something. Borris Johnson (I think?) is/was an MP (I think?) and he made a joke about scousers being whining morons or something because someone went missing or something.
Borris Johnson then went to sign a petition book or something about the missing person, only to find that it had been stolen
I don't know, I was a bit drunk

SNP are only a minority party, they cant remove us from the union, unless they manage to convince the other parties that its going to be good for us.
Essentially though - the pheasant has no agenda
(I've been watching too much bill bailey)
-----------EDIT------- UK has changed a lot over the past 4 years. -Yob cutlure has peaked, violence is now common place, as is abuse from neds/chavs, several sites can help here: www.glasgowsurvival.co.uk and chavscum.co.uk (iirc, google them if you cant find it)
-Petrol 93p a litre! Shocking!!!
-TV still sucks and we still pay for it
-Beer is getting more expensive by the minute
-House prices are astronomical unless you can get a prime site next to a nuclear power station or undersome power lines (you know the sort of areas no one would want to live in).
-Car Tax - getting worse, enough said
Cant think of anything else, at the mo, Yob culture and ASBOs (Anti Social Behaviour Orders) are pretty much the main issues in the UK these days. --------------------------------

It doesn't seem too bad then. I'm just used to being able to do pretty much exactly what I like (within obvious reason). I'm actually not looking forward to going home.
One of two things has happened then..
1. I've become so institutionalised in China that I'm actually beginning to think there are far more personal freedoms here or.. 2. There are actually more personal freedoms in China and the UK has turned into a nanny state with ridiculous laws designed to protect the stupid :(

Live in London and the only thing that has really changed is the number of tourists you have to barge through on the tube. Everyone is still as lazy as ever, streets have about the same amount of rubbish on them, people who get on get rich and those that don't moan about it, etc etc. Wouldn't wanna live anywhere else though, /shrug.

Thats what you get for electing a bunch of socialists into office.
Pretty soon they'll be passing laws on how many calories you can eat, and fining you for having sex in positions not deemed safe by the health department.

Politely ignoring the fact that Thatcher was a free market liberal, Brits just coined her a "conservative" because thats about as close to a conservative as you can find in Britain.
