Houston, we have a problem!
I have run into what I presume is a bug with the lab resulting in 2 BPO's going missing. Cap Propulsion Engines and Small Tractor Beam BPO's were showing as completed lab jobs. The corp office in the POS system had expired on rent due to my oversight. I re-rented the corp office (paid the 5000 isk for release of impounded items of which there were none?), then hit deliver on the 2 BPOs but they did not drop to corp hangars, personal hangars or POS mobile lab storage. Looking at the science interface the BPO's don't appear anywhere. I have petitioned for their return. Anyone else hear of this being a problem?

Petition it and you'll get them back. The newly rented office has a different office ID than the old one, so your bpos were returned to the old office that you no longer have access to.

Since he already paid to release impounded property on the old office, I doubt he can do it a second time. However, as Treelox said, check the deliveries in case active BPOs count as impounded and they have been released into deliveries.

The only way to get them back is by petition. The problem is well known among the GM team.

They should fix it, perhaps a message of such "Your coperation still has outstanding research, please end all research, then pay impound fee"
This of course would only apply to POS, and if it was a normal station lab, then it would check the corp id then go to the player's hanger if it didn't exist.
I suppose there are even problems with that, but thats for the CCP team to figure out, after they roalties on my message

Yep if anyone should know about this it's me  . Petition under 'stuck' or it will take weeks to get a response.
Make sure you have the location of the POS (moon>planet) that was used for the research, and a rough idea on what bpo's were lost to make it easier for ccp to search.
There is no way to stop this happening. If you don't pay your bill, your bpo's will always be stuck, so you need to try and prioritise this (I have made this mistake a few times)
