Not really a story about Eve, but they compare another game to it.

MMO's seem to be increasingly blurring the lines between reality and "games".
My parents always moan about how Eve "Just isn't real". As much as I love eve, it isn't real and moves by other MMO's in that direction I feel are dangerous for society
(p.s. I'm 20, but my parents still moan at me :D)

Meh, my old man gave me grief once. When I was 31. (No, not living in the basement... /me beats the incoming troll brigade)
Personally, I play MMOs as a replacement for watching TV. Its an interactive form of entertainment that engages that mushy thing between my ears.
Why sit on my ass and watch stupid cheesey drama when I can sit on my ass and cause it?
This is my sig, there are many others just like it. With me, my sig is worthless. Without (or with even) my sig, I am worthless... |

QFT- This is what most critics of gaming do not understand... compare it to other things you can do.

Funny how some parents/spouses ***** about someone playing games when they spend their evenings watching tv.

actually, they compared it to someone's SCAM in EVE, one that broke the EULA and got his account banned... figures that a scammer would put EVE in the news
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
yeah, I'm at home still (I'm 23) while going through technical college. The whine at me sometimes, yet they watch movies and TV constantly. At least what I do requires skill and thinking. Anything I do on my computer requires more skill and thinking than TV: WoW (I didn't say it takes thinking, but there is a measure of skill involved), Counterstrike, EVE, Programming, etc.
Seems, Video games is better for the world than even books. Books can make you retain information more, and maybe be a creative writer, but books don't teach Eye/Hand coordination. There are puzzle books, but you can get that in video games and at least its interactive.
So yeah, Video Games are just another form of entertainment that is superior to everyone elses. The up-and-coming intellectuals of our day play video games.
same here, i haven't engaged the TV in about 15 years. it's awesome signing on MSN and having half your friends get moody and ignore you when you change corporations or play another game.
His scam didn't break the EULA. He acted as a bank to players and promised a return on their ISK. It was the player's fault for giving him their ISK.
Reality is highly over-valued.
