Would there be any interest amongst people to have a Gotcha-style manhunt sort of tournament? The idea is much like the movie Gotcha, which is about a group of college students who form a league, submit dossiers including their class schedules and picture. The judges then shuffle and assign targets to all participants, who now hunt down their target with paintball guns between classes. Some of us did this sort of thing in school or at work, so it might ring bells.
No, this wouldn't really appeal to the "true gangster gods", the 50-hour-a-week players or the "big epeen" crowds, but it might perhaps appeal to the more casual players who want to engage in some structured PvP without a huge risk of loss. You know, a change of pace. IE: Perfect for newer players, mission runners, miners, whomever. If it doesn't appeal to you, feel free to ignore the post, have a nice day.
So in the Eve version, pilots pay in, outfit a ship, and engage in a last-pilot-standing-takes-all elimination contest. In short, it is a game of single-blind Manhunt in the style of a bounty hunter or assassin. You are assigned a target by the Judge(s) and you hunt them down for PvP combat according to the rules. Engagement losers are eliminated from the tournament round, the winner takes the loser's formerly assigned target and begins the hunt again. The final participant is awarded the winnings.
Now, just to ward off any screams/accusations of scams, whatever the players agree on as entry fees, ship limitations (Battlecruisers or lower), equipment limitations (Tech II or below), whatever, we can do. We can find someone 50-billion-isk rich kid in-game that everyone trusts who agrees to be the 'banker', or whatever. The whole idea is just to have fun.
This sort of tournament can take place at any time, as part of the nature of the play is always having to be alert for your assassin finding you, anywhere. There is no need for arranged fight times, meet-ups, etc. Moreover, it introduces a stalking and ambush sort of play style, makes a hunter strategize a bit. It can involve any number of participants, really.
Would this interest anyone out there? If so, we can form up a league and work the rules out.
