Edited by: Hypatia Iola on 12/05/2007 05:52:10 just got back from watching it actually
Warning-Pseudo-spoilers ######################### I like how hard they worked to make it believable, and throughout most of it, it didn't take tooo terribly much stretching to believe it, with the exception of the Gas scene and the Outbreak scene, which i don't think really spoils the movie, because it really doesn't give anything away.
REAL SPOILER! ######################## anyway having had experience with being gassed it's just not something you avoid breathing in, if any nerve toxin TOUCHES YOU anywhere you're ead, a droplet i think 3 microns (can't remember if it's 3 or 30) across is a fatal dose, so "Close the doors and cover the vents" doesn't work. and frankly it seems ridiculous for the "hardened structure" to have an emergency exit that one man could break down... it just seems a bit on the ludicrous side.
edit and no it wasn't nerve gas i dealt with, it was tear gas, but it sucked nonetheless.
I represent only my own views, they just happen to be the right ones. |

The world is doomed, except for people living on islands because of 4 reasons
1. Animal rights activists messing with things they dont understand
2. Kids not listening to the rules 3. What do people not understand about isolation and quarantine. 4. The US army was running the show, had it been US Marines the infected never would have got out of the med center.

I thought it was pretty good. Not quite as good as the first one, but still well worth watching.
Pros: Still scary. Had the same general feel as the first one. Even darker and more depressing. Some of the bigger budget was clearly spent well.
Cons: Maybe not quite as scary as #1 (although I haven't seen it for ages, so I might be wrong). One or two "big budget" scenes were a bit naff (the helicopter gunship chase as ridiculous). A few silly things, like locking all the civilians in an unguarded room with a weak door, and the fact that one zombie in particular managed to be everywhere at once. The child actors were poor.
Still brill, though. Can't wait for the sequel (28 Months Later, I'm told). --------

I saw it today and really enjoyed it.
Some bits were a bit horrific though haha.
I also think it was a bit silly how the people were put in the room with a crap door at the back which could be broken down by one man. And also I didnt think it was realistic that they practically left the infected woman who was immune almost unguarded. Just a couple of soldiers walking around?
But then the movie wouldnt be very good if they contained the virus would it
They should of just gassed Britain at the start before bringing people back in.
The very pessimistic ending was cool, the world is screwed now.

How the virus was created?
If I remember correctly some people were experimenting on Apes/monkeys and they had the "rage" virus, and some escaped and it spread onto humans.

Not tehnically zombies, no. They're just people who have been driven into a animalistic, all consuming fury by a virus, which is transmitted through their blood or saliva (read "bites"). But seeing as the result is an ever growing number of bloodthirsty monsters, it's easiest to just ump it in with other zombie movies --------

Edited by: commander tycho on 13/05/2007 14:51:49 Edited by: commander tycho on 13/05/2007 14:50:16 At the beginning of 28 Days Later there is a scene in a lab with a bunch of monkeys in cages and some people come in to let them go and get bitten. They then go crazy
From Wikipedia:
"The film opens with the initial outbreak of the Rage virus, caused when an infected Chimp bites an animal rights activist attempting to free animals from a laboratory."
"The Rage Virus began as a genetically engineered strain of the Ebola virus designed to carry an unspecified treatment to inhibit violent impulses.[citation needed] However, it was revealed to have the opposite effect, leading to violent behavior. After entering the bloodstream, the virus is usually very quick to manifest itself in the victim's behavior (see below), usually only 10 or 20 seconds is required for the virus symptoms to become noticeable however accurate infection time is purely indicated by the amount of infected blood has gotten into the bloodstream and the overall mass of the person in question. The virus is passed through bodily fluids and has a 100% communicability rate."
"The Rage virus does not directly cause the death of its host, but because the host has its sole focus on infecting or pursuing others, it causes those infected to become disinterested in eating, which will eventually cause death from starvation.
The infected experience spasms in the extremities, and the pupils will become wide and blood red. They will also vomit copious amounts of infected blood.
Rage will completely dominate the mind of the infected, causing him or her to become mindlessly aggressive. The infected will irrationally try to attack and kill those uninfected around them with no regard for self-preservation.
It has also been shown that the infected use their sense of smell to find those uninfected and that trace amounts of products such as perfume or soap will attract significant attention from infected"

This is the problem i have with the film. They seem to have changes several key bits of the story just to suit their new screenplay.

No it wasn't the crow that had it. It was picking away at an infected corpse and a drop of blood fell and hit the poor bugger in the eye passing the infection.
For the apes it could be argued they were just carriers although the movie did seem to make it fairly clear they were as effected by it as humans were. Although it's fair to say someone screwed up and made a mistake in that respect.

Movie was nothing short of awesome. Take that naysayers
Now if I had to pick some scenes out that touched a nerve..
[SPOILERS]***************
1. First Infection: why did a citizen of district 1 have a keycard to get into all the secure areas? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The "dad" seems to have some kind of consciousness even after he's infected when he kills his wife by pushing her eyes in. I don't remember this kind of "coordinated fury" (lack of a better word) from the first one. Then he proceeds to take down at least 2 soldiers before they discover what happened. Also showed them being attacked head on, guess they had toy guns.
2. Airstrike scene: the amount of heat generated by those bombs would have heated the air above towards the helicopter causing the air to become lighter and resulting in the helicopter falling to its doom ;)
3. Gas Scene
That's it. As I said, the movie was very well done - it had my heart beating the whole time. The outbreak while it was unrealistic and simple was perfect. It's just what's needed when you expect it to be complicated.
Oh and the daughter was pretty
I highly recommend the movie. -

yes, the monkey thing was the first scene in movie #1, and yes, that's a plot hole, but meh, ol well...
that and the whole way through the 1st movie they're wondering if the animals around them are infected or not... again, (possible) plot hole, but it's okay.

Edited by: Mike Atropos on 15/05/2007 07:31:39 I actually just came back from seeing it. It was well-done, but it also torqued me off how many blatant holes it had.
***SPOILER WARNING***
1) Those kids were the.. Gah, the forum will censor my word choice for them. They should have been shot by the sniper the moment they left, and if not, should have been shot as an example when they got back. Quarantines exist for a reason, you do *NOT* have the right to violate them under any circumstance.
2) The mom was completely unguarded. The only person still alive with the virus, and theres nobody watching her. At all.
3) The janitorial pass would *not* have access to a Level IV quarantined medical facility. He might get in the front door, but not all the security checks to his wife, let alone into her secured room.
4) Once infected, he would have had to use that key to get back *out*. How exactly did he do this if he was an incoherent zombie? Furthermore, her room should have not only been guarded, but the door shouldn't have any way to open it from the interior. Period. You'd have to rely on the guy outside, at the controls, to open the door. Its the only way to prevent panicked, infected people from opening the gate on their own accord.
5) The "bunker" the civvies were put in not only had no guards, but wasn't a bunker. It was a basement. One zombie overpowered the doors? Oh rly?
6) The fighter's wouldn't fly that low to the city to drop the ordinance. Too high a risk to snag a tower or wire and crash.
7) Fuel-Air explosives wouldn't just leave uber-zombie dad unscathed because he hid around a corner. They would suck him into the blast, then blow him into ash.
8) As already mentioned, that gas would have ended them on the spot.
9) How did zombie-dad get into the subway system ahead of the survivors? The subway was outside the green zone, and there wasn't anything to hunt in it.
10) How did the chief medical doctor, and also ranking military Major suddenly lose all her authority? Nothing was ever said that removed her from the chain of command.
11) Those...Children. No, seriously. They did great acting, but their characters were the whiniest little ******* ever. "They left us again, didn't they? /sadface". No, you got them all killed. Theres a difference.
Overall tho, good movie. Just soooo many plotholes. It makes me sad

God damn, you must be a film critic... its only a movie and in my opinion a good one too... but your right about several things especially the unguarded woman... the only defence i have to this is that at the time they didnt know she was infected, they only just found out and were on there way to killing her when the dumb ass husband thought he'd get a kiss of death. _______________________________ Who the f*k stole my sig... |

Yeah I was rather disappointed in a couple aspects. As these were addressed already I list them briefly: 1. One guy breaks a "quarantine" room door in about 5 secs. It's supposed to contain like 200 humans, but 1 infected headbutts it half-heartedly and BOOM.
2. Wtf?! The snipers should have been like "OMG! Kids leaving the containment zone, INJFECTED! FIRESS!!!!!?!11!"

Nah, abotu the bird. It was actully a british soldier that was infected. If you look more closly you'll see that when the birds starts to annoy the guy he hits the fence. Then the drop of blood drops from the soldeir which is currently lieing on a ledge above him into his eye. Pretty unlucky tbh.

OH... DEAR... LORD... i wish i knew them... i would just follow them around making fun of their names.. i feel like it would be a worthwhile use of my time..
And they say kids are cruel...
Parents who intentionally name their kids as if they themselves never went to school are cretins.
Parents: don't get "creative" with naming! Instead, pick a nice, solid, easy to pronounce name for your newborn baby. Your kids will thank you guaranteed.
