Today I died. I had been grinding for a while and had accrued 150k Min LP. I spent a good few hours going through fuzzwork and EVE-Central to find the items which gave the best LP:ISK ratio. I even started making spreadsheets. Eventually I settled on my items, bought them, and started making my way to Jita. I had about half a billion ISK worth of items in my cargo, which is a lot for me. Finally I entered Caldari space, whereupon I was greeted with this message:

Panic mode engaged
I try to warp off somewhere so I can come back and leave the system, but I wasn't able to get away before I was scrammed. I activate my feeble MASB which can only delay the inevitable. Then I am popped, half a billion ISK gone.
I hadn't realised I, a MFW fighter, couldn't enter Caldari space; I thought it was only Amarr space that I couldn't enter!

Back when I was in FW the wormhole features were added to the game. I went into a wormhole with a few other ships and without my own probes (that was the last time going without probes BTW) and my only choice to get back into K-space was a wormhole that put be 26 jumps deep into enemy empire space.
In a Cyclone.
Lucky me I started playing before WTZ and had a lot of maneuvering skills. I survived the trip.
But yeah to the OP: first rule is "don't panic" it's just facpo. FW players and gankers get around them almost all of the time.
Here's a silly death for you: I died 15KM getting podded off a gate because WTZ was introduced while I was taking a break from the game and didn't know about it.

I've had a few silly losses in my time, but the one that takes the cake was when I lost a ship to POS guns in an empty system. More details here.

Yea I did that too... only with a freighter, had some weekend fun and my sec was -2.1 or something and lets just say the police in amarr didn't like it.
I've lost a few ships while running burner missions and trying to watch hockey. Anything else and I can play fine, but hockey makes me lose ships.
probably my dumbest pvp loss was when I was taking some potshots at a gang and was "aligned" out. well they warped on me and I clicked the button to warp out and either I was not aligned or I clicked the wrong bookmark.

LOL mode engaged for me, because I knew how stupid I was.
I once feel asleep in an Ishtar running an 8/10 site in Syndicate (I struggle to stay awake with PVE). I woke up about 4 hours later, still in space and thought how funny it was that no one had scanned the site down. Also thought it was funny that there were still rats present. Warped away docked and then realised I was in my pod. I'd been killed by the rats in my sleep and wasn't awake enough to realise what had happened. |

Uhh... most of eve deaths are silly. Putting suicide attempts (drunk pvp) and blob fights aside, here are some of mine:
- Fell asleep on my keyboard and got hotdropped by a Sin. He convo me the next day and apologized. Apparently he was very bored and went 20 jumps just to drop on my t1 trash ship.
- Activated MJD in the last pocket of a 10/10. Got 1-shot by the torpedo and sat there for few minutes in a pod, rethinking my life
- Forgot jump fuel
- Warped to a random moon in a WH in a non-cloaky, using "salvage" tab, and proceeded to make coffee. Apparently the POS occupying the same grid was not very happy about it.
- Jumped into HS with criminal status. There was more idiots like me. We lost 1-2 bil to concord and maybe 50 mil to the enemy that day. I hate HS.
- Tackled someone in low sec in an interceptor, got very happy as we were chasing that guy for several jumps, and got blapped by sentry guns in 2 seconds.
- Started ratting in a Naga using some derpy fit I found on battleclinic. All was fine until I got webbed and some frigates got under my guns. It was a slow death. |

Yeah I lost a SB while trying to bomb a camp because I got my align screwed up. It was so dumb I just waited to get podded.

One to a drifter battleship - should have used a passive targeter. (Why am I sitting in a pod?)
One in low, I thought I was D-Scanning... but I'd accidentally selected a chat box. (playing when tired)

Back when I first started, I thought smartbombs were God's gift to miners. So I loaded one on my Badger II along with my mining laser and ran it while loading up the hold for hours on end.
I lost three Badgers to Concord before I figured out smartbombs in high sec wasn't a good idea.

Then jumping back into highsec and having my pod blapped by him on the other side :D
I lost my Naga to a battle procurer on a station..... 
Discovered the power of sleepers, dropped onto grid at 100, decloaked, immediate space dust.

Why what a coincidence. Today, I decided to splurge a bit on a hookbill and put a dedspace ab on it. So how did it die? ******* lag causing me to not warp off, then the same hitching lag causing my afterburner to not activate, allowing the daredevil to leisurely slowboat up to me and just inject void rounds into my butthole. The worst part was the daredevil pilot probably thinks he's elite or something because he caught me after about a half dozen attempts over the course of several hours to get me. ******* fuckitty ****.

back in the day when Eve jukebox was on, I fell asleep in a 5 bil Nightmare in a mission site. When I woke up I was in a cloning station. Basically, NPCs blew up my ship, my 2 bil. pod was crushed by some player. |

That was in 2010 or 2011... I was living in Drone Lands and mainly doing 10/10s i bought from other players. Was using 3 alts: tanking tengu, DPS from Rattlesnake (maybe) and Nightmare.
Usually i was warping with the tengu, get all agro and then orbit something and kill all the stuff with other characters.
But once i've afked with my drones was set on 'aggressive'. And.... drones then killed anchor of the tengu, tengu moved away from the area and lost it's capacitor, then died. NPC switched damage to DPS dealers.... I returned just in time to warp to safe some of them....

Once I bought a mid-grade slave set. Thought it's gonna be ok - I did a lot of explo, and I never once lost my probes. Or maybe once. So I arrived home from Jita in a shiney new 'ceptor. 'Ceptor fleet is gathering, how cool - I only need to change a few things from travel-fit. Before the first jump I realize that I have my precious head with me. I make a mental note to be extra-risk averse, and to save my pod. Zero problem, I practiced this. I fight outside of bubbles, and the pod easily gets to a safe before anyone could lock it.
Yay I'm good. So I just sefl-destruct back to home.
*rolling a cigarette*
"Fork, my precious head!" I was even reaching for the ABORT SELF DESTRUCT button when I lost my first set of implants.
Since then I only use cheap DPS augments if the FC is handing out sets.

Lost a Primae the day they were given to players to an insta-point Heavy Dictor in low-sec when I forgot to adjust my autopilot settings to exclude low-sec systems.
EDIT: Also lost an Interbus Shuttle from waaaay back when there was a physical copy of Eve Online in Wal-mart, but I can't remember the details as to how.

Had a few afk losses, like go afk while shooting the mission trigger, go afk in a belt in a cap stable setup with the rep off, or go afk while in a fleet and get fleet warped into the enemy which was one of my first pvp losses.

Drinking/smoking on my balcony, arguing US election politics on teh internets with my remote tablet, whilst lazily flying my loot fat Cheetah alt back through LS after an extended NS voyage.
Switched back just in time to see my cloak drop on gate, surrounded, panicked, ran inside and tripped slamming my forehead hard on the stairs.
Made it to my PC just in-time to get my pod out.
Probably incurred a concussion, but atleast I saved my implants.

Ive seen EVE players streaming on Twitch pass out at their battlestation or crawl into bed, and even puke on their keyboard and disappear offscreen whilst their ships get wrecked.

Was transporting quite a lot of ISK in an industrial. I had to go through a lowsec system before making it to the highsec beyond that.
I had multispectrum jammers in all my mids, thinking if anyone jumped me at a gate there's no way I'm gonna tank anything in perpetuity, but maybe I could jam and get away.
Jumped into the lowsec system, and see a camper sitting off the gate. Thought "Crap! Okay, try to MWD-align, then hit him with all your jammers, and keep fingers crossed." Aligned, hit him with jammers, then got some message about being an enemy, gate guns attacked me, and I exploded.
Apparently, I had accidentally put burst jammers in my mids, and I aggressed the gate and the gate guns.
Also, I once had pretty much the exact situation as above, except my error there was that I had not actually jumped into lowsec like I thought I did (if you aren't careful, being one jump away from lowsec looks like you are already in lowsec in the waypoints). So I hit some poor guy with jammers in highsec, and CONCORD came to the rescue. |

Not a death, but someone apparently MJDFG me off my Augmented Drones while I was lazily afking on a Refuge.
He then flew back and picked up my disconnected drones while I was busy shiptoasting elsewhere.
Alteast I think that is what happened. Drones are gone and I'm 200km away :D

Speaking of svipuls.. It was somewhere between 10pm and 2 am, on weekend, I was sleepy and drunk. And multiboxing. A solo svipul has shown up on intel network so I sent out one of my derpy alts in an a-type pvp fit astero to sit somewhere uncloaked and bait him. Started doing other stuff, went afk and forgot about the alt. Than logged off. I was very confused when I logged in the next day, accused corp member of stealing the astero and than noticed I miss implants too.
Another death is silly but not mine. It also includes an afk alt and a svipul. (before Gila nerf and NPC dreads) I left an alt in a haven and forgot about it. Came back, made another site, reshipped to a Noctis and noticed some weird loot in a MTU. T2 AC's, T2 DCU etc. Turns out a Svipul died to my afk alt's drones. |

My first death was clearly the most clueless. I had just started and really had no idea how the game worked. I am still not sure I can claim I do!
So I'm looking at the old map where you could easily see things worth going to see. i did not understand system security or non consensual PvP in Eve. Late one night I decided I want to see that original gate. Put my ship on auto pilot then fell asleep. Woke up a few hours later in a pod in some random low sec system. It took me a while to figure out that was not a good idea!
Not long later I thought I'd go mine some in low sec. Learned about being warp scrammed and just how quickly a poorly fitted frigate popped.
Last stupid way I got killed was autopilotting 276 jumps in my pod while I fixed dinner. Some CODE person took offense with that. OH well, I needed to redo all my implants anyways!

I had bought them less than 30 mins earlier after finally training Minnie Mediums to IV, and at 10mil over Jita prices a piece..
Whoever it was has inspired me to get a command destroyer myself to see what kind of mischief I can come up with the MJDFG :D
Maybe jumping missioners/miners off their sites? Especially clustered mining operations on ice fields in LS.
Perhaps so they lose contact with their mining drones and with enough time to rush back with MWD to pick them up or grab them with an alt.
The 160s cooldown should be short enough to chain jump slow ships.
Seems you maintain locks on targets through the jump, so perhaps can point them as well to prevent them warping out.
Dunno if MJDFG also jumps drones within 6km.

I had an Orca loaded with about a bil of cargo on my way from Domain to Metropolis. I was getting fatigue so went on coms to keep awake. Unfortunately the buddy I was talking to started describing prostate operations in graphic detail which distracted me at just the wrong moment.
I warped into Low sec and started wondering why there were so many criminals around the gate.
Anyway my ship and all it's 400k HP died about 2 km from where I de-cloaked.
The saddest thing is not the loss. It's the fact I encouraged a dozen people in faction battleships to have nothing better to do than sit on a gate. |

A pal from my corp gets a 5/10 escalation in Highsec. I came helped him. I wrote: "Please let me go in first, because my Rattle can do that and I know whats in there." We clear the first pocket, and look who is jumping through the gate with 50% armour on his Armageddon....
I still make fun of him with the killmail.

As a noob not realising that all those Caldari missions would get me attacked on sight by the Gallente, jumped into their space in a Badger with about 60m of stuff and was caught and blown up.
I tried to kill a Evoke Brutix in low sec in a hurricane, I had mates to come along, I agressed on the gate so got the love from the gate guns and even worse allowed him to get on top of me, which was bad piloting, so by the time my mates arrived I was space dust. I then got in a blackbird as my mates chased him, he jumped in on a corp mate I locked him and jammed him and the gate guns blasted me, so I emergency warped out to another gate where the gate guns finished me off. Was my multiple derp moment...
When the going gets tough the Gankers get their CSM rep to change mechanics in their favour.

I lost the very first T2 ship I ever owned....to stupidity.
Got a shiny Hound, thought I would prowl low sec and find a target. I set a route and promptly covered the route in the upper left of the screen with the D-Scan window.
Imagine my surprise when I found a lone miner in a belt!
I lined up the perfect strike, he was so clueless- no idea I was right there, about to murder him. I decloaked and locked the barge. Warp disruptor and torpedoes on overheat, this kill mail would be a treasure.
Suddenly CONCORD has me floating in a pod. The miner warped away, probably wetting himself laughing.
I moved the D-Scan window and lo and behold, I was in the one high sec system in the route I had mapped out
Scary space pirate-- CONCORDONKED on his first solo ambush. |

Another-
I was flying around high sec and found a pod just floating near a belt. No response from the player, no action by the pod. So I decide to clear the space trash and shoot this pod. But first, I needed something cheap to throw away because CONCORD is going to kill me for this 'gank'.
One laser on a T1 frig should be plenty, it's just a pod.
Well it was a pod in .9 space so CONCORD got there almost instantly, and my one laser got the pod to 9% structure when my ship exploded.
I utterly failed to gank a pod...an AFK pod.
I went and bought a ship, put a gun on it, and flew back there-- only to leave my own wreck next to the still sitting there AFK pod. |

Did a similar thing too, was trying to catch miners in an anomaly but they were stabbed, went home and added another scram, locked, shot, then CONCORD......went back to the wrong system with the same anomoly in highsec....

I'd argue that the fine line between courage and reckless stupidity can get really damned blurry when you're three sheets to the wind and have a derpy german encouraging you to do something that every sane nerve in your body agrees is a Bad Idea.
Embarrassing, but the important thing is to be able to laugh at yourself after the fact. Accept you were a dolt, and try not to one up yourself. Gotta own that stuff.
Also, a solid argument against me buying a carrier or a dread. I can only imagine the levels of dumb I could achieve behind the wheel of one of those things.

I've been playing Eve for six years, so my bucket of space stupidity floweth over.
I got an entire CFC sniper fleet whelped in Fountain. I was scouting ahead while we chased an enemy brawler fleet. I jumped into the next system and reported it 'clear' other than a lone ship on the gate. What I meant was the gate was clear and my D-Scan didn't show the enemy, although they were all still in the system.
The FC thought I meant the entire fleet had jumped out and ordered our fleet to jump through and engage the lone enemy. Of course the moment we did all his buddies came warping back to decimate us at close range while we couldn't warp off nor jump back through the gate.
No idea what that screw up cost the SRP fund, but it was a slaughter.....and entirely my fault. |
