I have been playing for a few weeks now and I am looking to buy a new ship. In the rookie ship you have to use a high power slot for any guns, on some of the other ships there are turret slots on the description and I was wondering if they are seperate from the high/mid/low power slots and therefore do not use a high slot for your weapons or am I totally confused and disoriented?

Turret hardpoints are the amount of turrets you can fit on your ship, this will usually be less than the amount of high slots you have, as you'll also have missile laucher hardpoints and you can also fit modules as I said before.
So say your ship has 3 turret hardpoints and 2 missile launcher points, and 4 high slots. You can then mix and match setups, 3 turrets and 1 missile launcher, 2 launcher and 2 turrets.
It goes on like that

High slots are often for guns, but not always, u can fit guns, Missile launchers and shield transferrors, autolocking comps etc etc
All ships have a number of turret hardpoints and missilelauncher hardpoints (not all ships have missile launcher capabilites)
All ships have a limited number of turrets and Missilelaunchers they can fit, Take the maller cruiser for example, It has 6 high slots, but only 5 turret hard points and no missile hardpoint, thats means u can fit 5 turrets, the last high slots is often equiped with a smart bomb, taking out ships, drones and primarly incomming missiles
Hope it helps, anything else u wonder about, dont hesitate to ask

you can put the miner on you have 2 turret hardpoints unless you have too little CPU.
If you are new to the game like i was, i didn't realize each 1 slot was actually 2 turrets. So you can eqquip 1 miner laser and 1 missle or turrents. Proud member of PIE inc.

Miners are considered guns for the purpose of turret hardpoints, since they come in a turret. :)
