Edited by: Archeausz on 13/05/2007 19:33:15 Yes this might be a whine but In all honesty this is getting stupid... I know it might be my fault for can mining but the hassle of having so many secure containers is to fiddly...
Earlier on today I was mining happily, minding my own business and some idiot in a frigate comes and ransoms me for 1mill... I wasnt aware of his capabilites so I ignored him hoping he'd go play with himself somewhere else were he is needed...
Anyhow he just drop's a can, loads all my gear from it, into his can, and destroys it... I mean seriously, is CCP for piracy or something, because that is ridiculous, they should keep the idea were you leave it for 1 and a half hours or something like that until it pop's itself, its jsut taking the ransom thing one step to far...
It happened to a friend to earlier on today, and he payed the ransom, and the pirate still destroyed his ore... Im not going to accept you're "another whine bla bla" BS because its really getting stupid. And im not going to change to secure can mining, to much hassle for what its worth.
also dont come up with some smart a55 comment, this is simply a pure whine to CCP about how stupid this function is and it should be sorted out accordingly, or they should release a rule for it to not be abused as a form of ransom, or petitioned for CCP to actually do something to it instead of ignoring all the grief petitions.

They could just remove jan can mining, which wasnt ment to be apart of the game in the first place.

Yes, lets nerf this as well and then have a nice game of cards together.

So he moved your stuff to a can so he's flagged?
Easy fix put some drones on board as soon as he's flagged release drones and pop him....OR get a corp mate in a cloaked stealth bomber (My corps fav trick)
If your using Mining drones on a Barge then more fool you! :) Thieves are everywhere in the world and also in EVE!

If you can afford to drop a slot fit a WCS.
Then when he pops your can scare the * out of him by scramming the guy and launch your drones at him. You do fit combat drones dont you?
Of course for larger targets this is not feasible. Other suggestions in this thread work as well.

First off, he did ransom you. You declined which is your perogative. He then executed his threat, and destroyed your ore. Doesn't matter what you hear about pirates not honoring ransom, because fact is, most do and it's always your choice wether to pay or not. Actually, I would be surprised if someone ransomed you and then let you be when you didn't pay. I mean, what good would that do?
Second, it's not griefing. It's his ore when it's in his can. You can attack him or take your ore back. You didn't. Your choice.
Third, can mining was not intended from the beginning. People used it, and CCP let them. Then people started stealing ore, so the can miners whined and whined until CCP gave them can flagging. Now they are whining that they are still getting their asses kicked. Perhaps it's time to stop putting the blame on everyone else and just admit that you suck at this game?
Fourth, use a secure can and you won't have to deal with this. Oh, it's too much hassle for ya? Well, tough ****!

Well, technically jet-cans are trash cans, so it makes perfect sense that they are destructable.

It's a jetcan. It's not going to be extremely wierd if a jetcan can expire after an hour or two in the vacuum of space, yet can withstand an infinite number of shells/laserbeams/missiles.

If you're hell bent on jetcanning, would it kill you to at least find a buddy to routinely haul your ore away to saftey, before some ebil pirate comes to steal it?
This is an MMO, not a single player game... if you hadn't noticed.

Im not a huge fan of jetcan mining, but if theyre going to nerf it there needs to be a practical alternative. Anyone whos spent more than 5 minutes actually mining (as opposed to the forum warriors who feel that pew pew makes them experts on industry) knows that 3000m3 of ore isnt worth crap,, and you cant anchor cans near each other so giant secures really arent an option. Some may say do mining ops with a hauler, but that requires 5+ people to make having a dedicated hauler worth it, and assuming theres 5 people online in a given corp that wanna mine together is optimistic at best. Most miners are solo or very small groups, its not exactly the most exciting of activities and most miners like being left to themselves. Basically, people jetcan mine because its the only halfway efficient way of doing it...the mining methods are basically analogous to a nice meal at Ruth's Chris or passing out drunk behind a McDonalds.
I see two possible solutions
1. New class of deployable, but not anchorable, temp secure cans that can hold only ore. Stats similar to a jetcan (at least 15k m3 capacity), can be reused, smallish packaged size and stays auto packaged whenever its not deployed in space (to prevent people from using them as ghetto expanders, this seems to be the main reason giant secures have such low capacity).
2. Just make ore have less volume. This would definitely be easier to implement. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

With the amount of orethives in eve today, paying a ransom for his ore would prob not have lasted too long. The next ore thief is just around the 'corner'
But ya. Be prepeared to fight back, or dont jetcan mine.

Edited by: Eardianm on 13/05/2007 20:26:47 Seriously, who goes around flipping ore cans.
Granted, the asking for ransom, then blowing up the ore anyway, is pretty silly. I'd say name the pilot so he looses out on the ransom option for being a greedy moron, but if you care enough to read such a warning on the forums, you already know better than to pay, or to not have backup nearby when jet canning. --------------

There are plenty of ways to get around Jet Can stealing (dedicated haulers, flagging, secure cans (which are lots of fun when they cant be anchored *scoops can and the ore*). Use your imagination! As everyone likes to say, Adapt!)

Le Skunk. I said nothing about the Privateers pre-'nerf'. I couldn't give a flying...
What is ticking me off is the fact that, not content with restricting the whinging to one thread, you insist on hijacking aomeone else's threads. I find that pretty pathetic, if you ask me.

First rule of jetcan mining is to "ALWAYS" have a hauler sitting next to you to haul whatever you put in to the can there and then.
You are always gonna get some clown trying it on with you if your sitting there on your own, as it makes you a very easy target.....i mine alot and have came across many idiot trying to scam me or bate me in to something......you just have to stay on your toes.
The worst folk out there are the "IDIOTS" that claim to be liberating the ore belts by not letting you jetcan mine there ,and they try causing youm as much grief as they can....i mean ffs find a tree and hug it or something....H*mp it for all i care....just get a life and leave miners alone.....lol
Anyway CCP kinda favour the pirate these days so complaining wont help, infact there making life harder for us miners in future by moving the belts on a daily basis and making us scan for them...so yet another kick in the chookies for us miners .....lol
End of rant....lol

To the Op if the ore thief is in a player corp and your in a player corp go ahead and war dec them and kick their assses, and if you cant, hire a merc, and if your in an npc corp and they are in an npc corp well your SOL now then arent ya and maybe you should look into joining a corp with similar minded people who are willing to protect your mining operations
