I've noticed that when I come out of warp (on any of 3 accounts, on any of 4 machines), the trails from my engines appear 100m or so in front of my ship. This occurs immediately before the ship starts trying to stop. Has anyone else noticed this? |

I filed a petition on this, thinking it would go to cust svc and they would channel it appropriately so it would get to a dev team. Their response was basically stifled laughter, commenting that the devs frequent the forums.
I guess I was hoping the devs might see this bug thread and flag it. Then again I'm sure they've got tons of more important bugs to fix. Like when a dozen ships get stuck together at Jita IV :)

I don't think you can really call this a "bug." What it seems to be is simply lag. The client does prediction on the position of the ship all the time for smooth motion. Sometimes due to latency, client-side lag, or server-side lag, the client prediction is "ahead" of the actual position of the ship on the server (the "official" position). The engine trails are persistent timed effects that are based on the ship's position.
When the client updates the ship position (from received server info), sometimes you get a small "rubber-band" effect as the ship moves backward. Usually it's very small, and not really noticeable unless you're actively looking for it. However, if you have engine trails on, they will show it every time.
Coming out of warp or undocking is one of the laggiest events in EVE (since it has to load everything around you). You don't see it undocking because the engines aren't active much, but coming out of warp you can see it everytime. ---------- The right to do something doesn't make doing it right. |
