Declined a mission today and got rather a bad shock:
Before mission: 9.74 personal standing (excluding connection mod)
After mission: 9.60 personal standing
Checked the transactions, the loss was listed as -0.7111%. Did another mission, standing went from 9.60 to 9.61, checked the transactions again and it listed the gain as +2.5778??????
So declining a mission cost me the equivalent of roughly 14 missions?
Either the calculation is entirely different for working out standing loss for failing / decliningin missions or there is something terribly wrong here somewhere.
Either that or once you hit a certain level you start getting additional penalties for declining.
Anyone had similar experience? A dev comment would be appreciated.

If you do a mission, you get the percents of the difference from your standing to 10.0 .. if you lose standing for some reason, you lose the percents of the difference grom your standing to -10.0 ..
so in your case, you lost 0,7111% of almost 20, so roughly 0.15 points .. and you gained 2.5% something percent of 0,4 .. so roughly 0,01 standing point.
So your dropping further, the higher you get for failing, declining etc.

What she said.
+9.74. You must be living and breathing missions for that agent.

Ouch, hadn't realised that and I'd had a look through the stuff on agent standing (obviously must have missed something though).
Thanks for the info, though a 14 mission penalty for declining is still a pain :-(

hmm accidently replied with my alt :-) keep doing that.
Yeah, had a lot of spare time on my hands over xmas and lost track of the number of missions I have done. From 0 when Castor came in I got the corp standing with Republic Fleet to 9.52 and personal with this agent to 9.74 (well not anymore :-)) and for Boundless corp to 6.29 and personal of 6.05. Having said that I could probably outfit a fairly large corporation with tech 2 stuff, Ive got a supply of every single component, 6 out of 7 of the tools and 10 out of 12 of the Research databases lol.

You might want to mix it up some, do missions for other agents in other corps.
Because of the diminishing returns, you really can't progress any more with that agent. And once they implement degrading standings, it's unlikely you'll be able to keep that standing up. I have several agents above +5.0, and i'm certain i've done far fewer missions than you have. And the ratio for refusing/completing a mission for a +5.0 is much easier to handle.
Still it's good to know that a single agent for a single corp should eventually provide the full spectrum of tech-2 manufacturing items.

I have found that my corp standing, as opposed to personal, actually went up faster towards the end when working with Chief Executive Panel, and so found myself with ~9.6 vs ~9.4.
The disparity was caused by the fact that the important missions gave a much higher percentage when averaged over the number of missions done for the agent, and suffered from less of the diminishing return. Then again, after around nine or so in rating, all I ever seemed to get was delivery missions. Hopefully there will be some level three scripted/more interesting things turning up at some point :)
However, you are right, a five percent drop at this sort of level is going to equate to some forty to eighty missions... and at four to six an hour, it is a hefty commitment :(
Then again, contemplating getting four or five corps up to 5.0 so that it takes the sting out of the refining cost is bad enough at the moment :)

One reason I am loathe to use other agents is that this one is very nice to me :-) Longest run is a max of 8 jump sround trip, usually 2 to 4, quite often in the same system too.

And make that over 20 missions not 14 to make up the difference - done 6 missions since and only raise it from 9.60 to 9.64.
So the motto of the story is, never ever turn down a mission or fail one if you have really high standing :-(

I've got a 9+ standing agent as well, and I am suddenly very worried about how to maintain that standing when standing decay is back... A 0.45 decay? When compensating for 0.14 loss is already that bad...

Hmmm simple answer - forget you ever had a life and give up your job. You will then easily have enough time to do enough missions to maintain your standing :-)

Why didn't I think of that? The answer is so easy :-)

Edited by: Judicator on 06/01/2004 18:15:35 They are balancing the standing decay so that doing 5 missions for the crappiest level 1 agent should maintain your standing.
I believe it was Papa Smurf that wrote that; have a peak in the Standing Decay sticky.
Edit:
Beeing all nice and such I did it for you ^^
The decay proc will be disabled until we come back from vacation and can deal with the issue properly. The decay should then be tuned so that 5 average missions for the cruddiest agent around per week should keep your standings in place with agent or corp. That would mean one important mission per week should counter any faction standing loss for 3 weeks.
The important missions should be occurring more frequently now, so you should be pretty safe there.

I haven't bothered with any standing over 8...
I don't see the point or the advantage considering the diminishing returns.

I decline missions all the time and have a negative personal standing with my lvl 3 agent in Kaalakiota, has yet to really affect me cause my corp and faction standings completely override my personal standing. No telling what will happen when decay is reactivared but shoudlnt be to difficult cover.
