Mental conditioning aside, Achura do tend to find the capsule attractive for about the same reason our monks tend to practice martial arts so much: shifting the borders of what constitutes the "self."

Traditional: practice with that [insert weapon here] until it becomes a part of your arm. Train until you move and act without thought, as naturally and automatically as wind blows or water flows. Be a sword, be a knife, be a gaffe hook and pole-- and realize, in that time, where is "self"?

Capsule: jack into a chunk of technology and poof, you're a supercarrier. Where is "self"?

You can maybe see the appeal of taking the kinda-sorta shortcut and getting to see the stars in the bargain instead of being stuck on Achura all your life.

If that were true, they wouldn't have been able to expand the empires' capsuleer programs last year with the alphas. Clearly, not everyone who can be an egger gets in.

The alphas also represented a massive expansion, numerically, of the empires' capsuleer programs. If in November of YC 118, 3x as many people were completing the capsuleer programs per week as in October, this does not represent a massive change in the human genome.

Do please try to keep track of what it is you're claiming. Because you've just contradicted yourself. You were arguing against the idea that the available pool of applicants was wide enough that not everyone who could get in was getting in, ie: they can be screening out the nutjobs.
