I have nearly 400k rp's in caldari starship design.
I have been waiting for my turn to get a ship BPO. Then today someone tells me that with invention the lottery system is gone.
Is this the case? I have not read that the lottery system is gone if so please provide links etc. I don't weant to cash out RP for datacores unless for sure the BPO lottery is gone.

not gone so much as less profitable, invention is it's own can of worms though so I wouldn't worry, the ship BPO lottery is just overloaded.

Keep in mind the area you decided to research. Starship is of couse the most popular and has the most people going for it (greatly reducing your chance of winning).
I have always gone for the lesser bpo's and have one 3 times now (one gun, 2 ammo's). And thats with only a high quality lvl3 agent and doing no missions.
Lvl4's were not available when I started this agent.

Hopefully, the devs will make a clear and unambiguous statement when they close the lottery. Then again, I campaigned against closing the lottery, so I'm not feeling very hopeful.

As Rattus has said the lottery is still going.
In a blog done some time ago Ouver has stated that after the current set of BPO has been distribuited the BPO lottery will be cancelled.
He stated too that the BPO distribuition will be accelerated
.
Apparently that is not working, probably because there are plenty of inactive accounts with RP points. So every time one of those account is selected the BPO is blocked for a week, until the offer is autorejected for reching the 7 day acceptance/reject deadline.

The T2 lottery is "gone" in the sense that no new T2 BPOs will be added to the lottery prize pool in the future.
Still, the prize pool is still strong in several fields.
If you see no "predictable patents" in a field, you can cash in your RP.
As long as there's still a "predictable patent", keep your RP there if you like... just be prepared to cash them in for jackschit afterwards, as everybody else does the same.
On the other hand, the more people cash in RPs for cores now, the less RPs in play, the more likely to get a T2 BPO as there's still some available... higher risk, higher chance for a rewards.
Basically, if you no longer see anything you'd LIKE to get in a field, cash in the RPs.

I for one think they will add more prints into the blueprint pool, removing the lottery how then would a new BPO ever enter the game? High level static complex grinds? That would be telling the majority of people to **** off.

Well, was about the price for the mechanical engineering datacores abouth a month ago, around 5 millions/datacore.
Today it is 3-3,5 millions datacore, so 60-70k isk for every Rp.

and no.. im not swimming in isk.. it will make me 10-15mil a day if i can sell all i can produce(what never happens :P)

Just remember - as soon as the t2 bpo lotter is over - expect massive supply of datacores as there is no shortage of people with millions of RP wanting to cash in. Its a gamble if you cash in now or wait till its over.

I cash in for data cores as I need them for invention.
PS I am only doing weapons and I'm getting about one 1 run T2 BPC for every 8-10 trys.

Actually, they specifically said they want invention (in some form, not necessarily the current one) to completely replace the lottery.
Oh, and also be the base for (future possible) T3 and beyond.
