Specifically scrap reprocessing. Just returned after a few years away and found that my reprocessing yields are now garbage. Apparently it was crushed by the nerf bat? Any reason to reprocess modules at all now or any way to achieve some profitability at least? |

Because high sec was considered too profitable, needed to nerf high sec minerals. |

reprocessing stuff is now roughly 50% effective, a big nerf to moving minerals by compressing them in t1 guns also allowed for CCP to streamline blueprints and prevent people from profiting on reprocessing old ships built for far cheaper. You should get roughly the same minerals from ore they just changed the way it displays things, also I think you can get even higher than the old yield in pos/citadels with max skills and implants.
It would be a far bigger nerf to nullsec than high, null ratting produces far more wrecks, loot, and salvage than highsec missions.

PS: I suppose I should point out a lot of loot sold for reprocessed value, and well after the change it still goes for that. so most loot is worth even less than it was

Reason to reprocess is simple. half or more of all meta modules and loot don't move well on the market, so you either need to have them on sell order for a small eternity in order to get a half reasonable price. or you sell to the buy orders which tend to be almost criminally low.
now in null sec specifically, you can end up with a metric **** ton of the stuff, and you can either a) pay to ship it to market, and then loose either time or money trying to sell it there. or you can reprocess it in a rigged citadel (and with the refineries coming the reprocessing might get even better in those) get something like 65-70% of the mineral value out of it. and then either ship that much smaller M3 to jita and sell it far faster (for not much loss). or you can be smart, and find a local industrialist to sell it to at a markup, and end up with as much if not more than if you had shipped the mods off to be sold. |

I agree with this post, but I need to point out 2 mistakes in this sentence:
1. citadel rigs doesn't affect reprocess yield of modules (actually the only thing affects is that skill). 2. generally if you reprocess all kinds of loots you get from ratting, the volume would go up, or at least would not become much smaller. I can assure this with my own experience. |

Since nobody mentioned it yet ...
It was termed "gun mining", and CCP put an end to it in the Crius expansion, and they also increased the max possible yield from ore. "Unrefined" materials from moon reactions were buffed to be yield neutral.
Then CCP buffed nulsec ores twice.
I'd recommend buying cap charge BPOs, and using the minerals to build those, as cap charges are huge and a PITA to move. Other basic stuff can be built with minimal skill of Industry 1, like shuttles, scripts, scan probes, etc. |
