I have had 2 strange disconnects today. Once I rebooted client it just keeps checking status and after while it gives 'status unknown' message. Not problems with my net connection tho cuz I can still browse web and stuff.
Anyone else having problems alike?

Dear Xianne,
I do not doubt that you suffered from unexpected disconnect but you need to provide a bit more information so we can try to pin point the issue and be able to help you more. The more info the more chance to help you.

Well, everything worked normally until yesterday. I have done nothing but normal daily routines on my computer, that is read news and play eve. But suddenly yesterday eve start malfunctioning by way mentioned in the first message. I fear that I cannot give much better description.
So here's what happened:
After some eve playing, client disconnects (if I use 2 accounts, both of them disconnects). It gives message 'connection to the server lost' or something like that. Then I restart the client(s), but it just keeps checking the status, yet every else web based applications works flawlessly. This checking state may continue some 5 to 10 minutes before it finally finds the server. The most strange thing happened yesterday night tho: I had two accounts on login screen, yet only another of them had connection to the server. The other account was doing status check/connection - loop.

Same exact problem with me, however i know that this is a router problem of some sort as when i connect directly via the modem I dont have the problem. I saw somewhere a thread about d link routers being the cause of this. What the fix is I do not know. The thread on eve online somewheres just says go to this dlink website and I have yet to see anything specific to mmo's let alone eve itself.

I am posting here because I am having the checking status loop again. I left the first time because it happened and I was told to reinstall windows, reinstall the client, and then do a bunch of other things. Well windows had been reinstalled, the client had been also, and I don't remember the other but I was told nothing could be done.
I come back because I hear it might have been fixed and come back to find it hadn't. I have a linksys router with my IP forwarded through using DMZ. I just installed the client, which took about 8 times longer then anything else including windows to install, and now I am getting the same problem. If it's lag related they need to fix the lag issues through more hardware or a server split because this is unacceptable for paying customers to go through. If this continue the company might as well go the "free to play" route because the service is about the same.
Anyway, enough of a rant, what else do I need to do get this damned game running. I want to pay and keep paying to play but I won't if I can't even log into the damned game.

What the mod probably means by more info is to do a traceroute to the server when you have the problem and post the results here. It may also be worth posting a normal result, if you can still get one. This will hopefully tell them if it is an internet routing problem and where the problem is.
Open a command prompt and type: tracert 87.237.38.200
(I think that's the IP address for Tranquility but I could be wrong)
My software never has bugs. It just develops random features.

On my end the trace comes back perfect, no problems or hiccups. Not sure about the first person but incase someone looks and I don't get banned for my rant it can get fixed.

I Have this problem too, it started yesterday for me with a disconnect and then the "checking status" and all the symptoms described above. After a while (2 hours) I could login again, but then it happened again today and I can't login back.
I also have a Linksys router, but I never had any kind of problems with it, and the rest of my connections works just fine.
Thanks.

hey I canŠt log in aswell for the last 2 dayŠs I get the standard message...
"Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong"
Eve is enabled in win firewall,I DO have a connection so what is that all about ? HavenŠt touched anything,TCP port is 26000 but I donŠt know where I can find the IP.(server address).

I could not log in as well, and I checked my best friend: Peer Guardian, and Yes CCP Games network has been added to the blocked networks, so just allow 87.237.38.200 in peer guardian if you are using that program and you should be able to connect :)

Hey, I had the same problem, Its my first day of playing EVE. But I had an alternate solution which might help. Just disable your virus program if you are comfortable with doing that. Login in the game and then ALT-TAB and put your virus checker(Norton etc.) back on. Hope I could help.

The unable to connect problem can be on many different levels so i will just start with problems directly on the computer as source and build out from that.
Software related problems: - Firewalls - Antivirus, antispyware and protection tools - Network drivers & network access protocols / settings (Local / global proxy connections)
When you are completely unable to access the server no matter when you try the problem is likely with an entry that is blocking the client from accessing the internet. You will have to check what kind of tools you are running on your computer but this problem is most likely related to either an firewall setting or another protection tool setting (like peerguardian and other IP blocking tools). You will have to make sure that the following 2 files have unrestricted access to the internet: eve.exe and exefile.exe These files are located in c:\program files\ccp\eve\eve.exe and c:\program files\ccp\eve\bin\exefile.exe on a standard installation.
If you have an connection but often get disconnected this problem can still be duo to one of the programs installed on your computer. The problem with this is however at this point you cannot be sure what could be causing it so this would need an trial and error approach. An dangerous but necessary to see if the problem is by temporarely disabling any antispyware / antivirus protection tools (and firewall if it is running alongside). However note that you should not do anything else except for playing eve while your doing this and only disable these programs if your computer has been updated to the most recent security patches to prevent older leaks in the os from compromising your computer. If the problem is solved then switch on the programs one by one till you are starting to get the same issues again.
If the problem still is not solved then it is possible that you are useing an proxy. This is only relevant if you choose to use a proxy but if you do use one they add severely to lag (longer network path to and from your computer) and may have usage policy's like forced 15 minute sessions and completely blocked port ranges. It is also possible your network driver is outdated and has bugs which prevent normal operations specially for long sessions. The only recommendation is to try and update the network drivers to the most recent version useing the manufacturer's website (pay attention to model number).
Hardware and external problems - Bad cables, sockets, connectors and plugs - Routing issues - Modem related issues - ISP related issues (next post)
Sometimes the problems are not that easy to spot because the issue is not directly on the computer itself but an external factor. There are several issues which you need to check like quality of cables used, socket houseings, network plugs / connectors etc. Make sure everything is firmly connected and if possible use an long cable bypassing your current wireing just to make sure the problems are not caused by old / degraded cable performance. In case you use wireless connection you will have to check signal strenght which depending on the manufacturer can either be reached trough the control panal > wireless applet or by rightclicking the wireless taskbar icon (refer to your manual for specifics if you cannot find this).
Some routers especially older ones often have issues that have been resolved after their initial firmware and should be updated (also called flashing). Turning them off, waiting 30 seconds then runing them back on again often works for a short time but incase an firmware upgrade describes fixing certain known issues it is recomended to update it (notice warranty void when flashing however and if done wrongly it could damage the router and make it useless). The same counts for modems (sometimes these allready have special software that autoupdates itself like the livebox but it may be needed to be done manually, refer to manual on the how to's because there are many different types of devices).

* continued from my earlier post
It may also be related to your ISP disconnecting idle tcp/ip connections or an general maintanance from your ISP causing disruption in serive. You will have to refer to your internet service providers website and/or helpdesk service to get these kind of specific details.
If this is the first time you experienced this issue (related to people checking this topic rather then OP) it may be possible that either your isp or one of the routes to ccp is currently capped to the max load it can handle or have generic stabality problems.
If these issues are more persistent and nothing from the above seems to help it may be possible something at ccp their end is haveing problems and the only short term solution that can be given is wait a day (if not done so allready) and check back for any special announcements either in known issues or general discussions. It is also still possible that it is an issue on your computer or ISP because there are very likely so many combinations i did not think off while writeing this. If you know anyone with much experience in computers the best advise is to try and get him / her to look at your problems specially if you dont know much about anything related to computer except games, excel and word because following advise wrongly can do more harm when you dont know what you are doing.
Hopefully this information will be helpfull for anyone that needs it.

Don't have any firewalls, only NOD32 running. Same problem. 87.237.38.200 pings normally, and even disabling NOD won't helps.

I just got this problem tonight (22/01). I was tossed from the server, and the client simply searched for the server for about 10 minutes.
I figured that this was an eve wide issue, as the *first* time this happened, the eve forums timed out and it looked as if the server had dumped 4 thousand or so people.
However, this continued to happen, occurring three times in quick succession, so I just gave up for the evening.

I am still surprised that when people say this, that, and the other is not working they don't give a brief summary of their computer, router and ISP, since simples things like this can establish patterns forming , like new firewal updates and ISP's shaping.
ISP shaping software is classic in UK at moment for causing some of the problems listed above.

It's very possible that your ISP has some trigger-happy L7 filter running. Solutions: 1) change ISPs 2) http://eve.75.pl/
You could also take a testdrive of 2) to confirm that you need to 1). For more details take a look at Tiscali stickies. Their users suffer from the same thing.

Edited by: Ed Vang on 23/01/2008 14:12:31 Since yesterday (22 jan.) I have the same problem: can't connect to eve server (server status unknown). Traceroute works, TCP ping works ok on port 26000, so using a network analyzer I found that the initial SYN and ACK packets are always ok, but someone (my isp or an european backbone provider) is blocking the 46 bytes data length packet from eve servers that contains clear text "LIVE@ccp" (between other things, so it is real easy to block) and my connection times out. Of course that my provider is not admitting that he blocks this traffic, so I'm looking for alternatives. What worries me is if a backbone provider is blocking this traffic then changing my isp won't solve anything...
